Incheon

There is so much to hold on to.

Dong Wook stood in the room looking through Jung Su’s belongings seeing how there had been countless envelopes to a cathedral in Seoul supposedly to a family pastor. It was until he noticed a letter that stood a profile sketch of a woman. It was unclear how she looked like in person but he knows it was Jung Su’s love. On many days he would talk about her and only her.

“Must be her, is it bro?”

“You’ll meet her, she’s very pretty, even though she is blind,” he told him. Instead the latter chuckled at the way he continually praised the woman. Dong Wook admired how much one could touch his heart, knowing how much he had gone through. How Jung Su was able to feel love, lost and love again made him muse on the puissance of that single person. Despite the years that have drifted them, she still weighs heavily in his mind.

He fought bravely beside his Godbrother how they yield for one another. In the night, often enough Dong Wook would be awakened by the sound of the latter’s cries. He was never oblivious of his sadness at all. It had been natural for anyone to feel lonely. Sometimes when he peeked over to his side, Jung Su had been by his table, constantly writing and writing. The former had seen how he never batted an eyelid in his urge to commit to his letters, how he carefully sealed and kissed each one of them. He watched how he prayed daily for his family and how selfless he had been during these circumstances.

The moment Dong Wook had been hit due to a bomb; Jung Su immediately went to his side despite the oncoming fires. He relentlessly carried the man and ran over to the shelter, screaming for help. Dong Wook remembers for he held his hand and told him, “Think of the special person you had hoped to meet, think of what you’ll say to her, think of her… don’t go to sleep, brother,” he cried. Within hours, he had been revived waking up to see Jung Su waiting before him with his father, General Lee.

Knowing Dong Wook is injured, he was sent back to Seoul to recuperate. It was during dawn when Jung Su sent him to the helicopter. “Hey,” his brother said wearily, “I’ll send those for you, yeah?”

“Send what?” The former laughed and took a box from behind him. “The letters you wrote for your pastor, you fool!”

Jung Su could feel him tear and hugged his Godbrother. “Thank you, thank you so much.” That was the last time he had seen Dong Wook and remained honorably indebted to him in the later years.

Seoul Hospital

Seoul, South Korea

It had been a few years since the accident. The nurses told her that she lost her memory but all Taeyeon could recall were her accident in a car, and she had become an orphan. She could not remember moments or places or people. There were so many days she felt confused and empty and extremely alone. After months recovering, she was sent to Seoul to work in the hospital due to the urgent calls of the war. As Taeyeon worked aside the doctors and nurses, she met a Private businessman Lee Dong Wook, the son of a General.

The occupation lasted only a few days, but in the compressed time of war it was long enough for Taeyeon to grow closer with this soldier and made her own comfort his special charge. He was a man not only of great courtesy, but also of imagination, stability and humor. Dong Wook was dedicated to her well-being however, she never returned the love. Of course, she accepted all his proposals and listened to all his parts but to reciprocate it, she was hesitant.

It didn’t take long for him to ask her out, despite her uneasiness; he was patient with her to take things slow. Taeyeon learnt so much about his family yet she couldn’t answer each time he took interest on her past. They were together for three years until he bravely decided to court her. She had a good feeling about him. He was nice, and she liked him so she agreed.

"I'm not expecting you to like me," he had told her before.

"No, I do. You are very charming and you've been so good to me." She smiles. In all of his fervour, she loses sight of what it was that made her whole. Taeyeon was unsure the moment he asked her and told him softly, “Is it okay that I don’t know if I love you quite yet?”

“That’s okay too,” he beamed. With her he never hesistates to confess daily and felt so certain with all his feelings. Soon, after a couple of years together she began to unwind from the present and become addicted to the future instead.

Incheon

Jung Su cupped his mouth hearing those words, “The war is over.”

There was not a single reply in those four years, yet he sustained his anticipation of meeting Taeyeon once again. What words will he say to her? How beautifully he’ll see her age? A little bit of happiness overflowed his eyes at the mere thought. That night he had remembered every word that passed between them, every shade of her voice, and every beat of her heart.

Chapter 31: After two years and reading this again I finally understood what happened. Part 2 was an alternative situation of what could have happen if Leeteuk was alive. Author-nim why did you put in that chapter 31 for you could just keep it at 30, but nevertheless this is the most magnificent, engaging, heartwarming and heartbroken story I have ever read.
The applaud go to you!

This is the first story to make me cry so much. My heart ached and rejoiced through every chapter, like I had been with them through all of the ordeals. I cannot express in words how much I love this story and how amazing this is. I read this all in one heartbeat, and I'm proud to say that I'm now finishe reading at 1:28 AM. This story has truly made me realize what true love is, what patience is, and how precious everything is. I would go on for ages, but the way you expressed all of these tender emotions just makes me feel so fufilled but drained at the same time.
I'm definitely going to anticipate your other stories. Please keep on writing; you have such a precious gift from God.
