Prompt: Best friends everyone thinks they're dating but they're totally not not officially anyway

Yuqi stepped off the bus waiting as she looked in her bag. "I still can believe you did that." Shuhua huffed indignantly. "She was being dumb so I told her. It's no big deal." Yuqi looked at her with a judging glance. "Yes but she's the teacher. You know they don't take kindly to that." Shuhua shrugged. "Well then maybe just maybe she should learn to give out the right facts. Then I wouldn't have to embarrass her in front of the whole class. I mean how can you call yourself a teacher and not think Australia is a country!?" Yuqi shook her head. "Yeah then I wouldn't have to come visit you in detention." Shuhua pursed her lips. "Well if it bothers you so much then don't come." She walked ahead of her a grumpy look on her face. "Shuhua you know I didn't mean it like that." She caught up taking the other woman's hand. "I just meant I like it better when we're not stuck being quiet. I like to actually be able to have a conversation with you." Shuhua looked at her with a small smile. "You did it you saved yourself." Yuqi rolled her eyes playfully. "Come on we need to get home and finish that project." The two had been paired up as partners for their photography class. The professors by now have learned that the two only work well together. When they are apart Yuqi couldn't focus and Shuhua refused. "Fine but i want you to make dinner tonight." Yuqi made a face of disapproval. "Can't we just order pizza?" Shuhua hummed tapping her chin. "Extra cheese?" Yuqi nodded with a smile. "Deal." Shuhua did a victory dance hugging the girl beside her. "Have I told you I love you?" Yuqi chuckled and nodded. "Yes you tell me all the time. What are you going to do when you get a girlfriend? She won't let you keep saying that and hugging me all the time." Shuhua shrugged. "If she won't accept it as part of me then I just won't date her." 

Hours later the two had finished eating as well as their project. Yuqi laid on the couch watching TV when she suddenly felt a weight on her legs. She looked up and saw Shuhua sitting on her. "Hey Woogs. Have you noticed that neither of us have been in a real relationship since we met?" Yuqi looked at her raising an eyebrow. "I dated Soyeon." Shuhua shook her head. "Two weeks doesn't count you two kissed like twice before Soojin had enough of it." Yuqi chuckled. "Yeah I knew that would push them together. Just glad I was right that Soojin is a tsundere and not a yandere." She joked while Shuhua nodded. "She's a black belt you'd stand no chance." Yuqi pouted indignantly. "I'm super strong see?" She flexed Shuhua fake gasped. "Wow so strong! Maybe I'll date you instead!" She laughed at her own joke. Yuqi made a face. "Hey is it so funny the idea of dating me? I'd be a great date. I'd charm the hell out of you!" She looked indignant. Shuhua raised an eyebrow at her. "Is that your way of saying you want to date me?" Yuqi made a face. "Pft no I don't want to date a spoiled princess." Shuhua tilted her head. "I'm not that spoiled and if I remember correctly you're the one who's been spoiling me all these years. It's okay to admit you're in love with me Yuqi lots of girls are." Yuqi rolled her eyes. "I bet you'd be the first one to fall for me. If you aren't already in love with me that is." Shuhua smirked. "Is that a challenge?" Yuqi glared at her. "Yes I think it is. Friday you and me we have a date. I'm definitely gonna make you fall for me first." Shuhua held her hand out for a shake. 

"Wait what?! I thought you two have been dating for years. You act like an old married couple." Miyeon watched as Shuhua tried to find the perfect outfit. "No why would we date?" Miyeon hummed. "I mean maybe because you two are clearly in love? I mean everyone else can see it. She literally has carried you to class before. And you... If you could see the look you give to anyone who tries to flirt with her. Even I'm scared and I'm not flirting." Shuhua rolled her eyes. "We're just friends nothing more." Miyeon scoffed. "Uhuh just friends who literally made a bet to see who would fall for the other first. What are you gonna do if you win? You're just gonna let her be in love with you and not do anything? You know that would be painful especially with how attached the two of you are. You two didn't think this through did you?" 

"Yuqi just admit it." Minnie laid on the girls bed her legs dangling off the edge as she scrolled through her insta. "I can't admit something that's not true." Minnie rolled her eyes. "You've been in love with her since like the third grade." Yuqi scoffed. "That's ridiculous you didn't even know us in third grade." Minnie nodded. "But Soojin did. And I seem to remember hearing stories about you two at that age. How you used to always ask your mom for stuff you didn't like for lunch to give to Shuhua. You also get so distracted when she's not around. I also don't think I've ever seen the two of you go more than ten minutes without touching." Yuqi shook her head. "It's just what friends do. I'm not in love with her. And she's not in love with me." Yuqi insisted. 

Yuqi stood outside of the mall. Her hair fell down her shoulders a slight wave to it. She wore a loose green knit sweater she knew Shuhua liked. "Where is she? I hope she's okay.." Yuqi looked at her phone hoping to see a text or a call from the taiwanese girl. Suddenly she heard someone running her way. "Sorry I'm late! I let Soojin unnie do my makeup!" She stopped just a foot away from Yuqi fixing her hair. Once she was done she smiled at the girl. She had light makeup with a red lipstick. Her hair down as usual but she had done a bit of curling to it. as for her clothes she wore a tan sundress with a flower pattern as well as a matching tan cardigan. "Are you ready?" Yuqi looked her up and down nodding. "I'll admit you look nice today Shu." She smiled softly at her. "You look pretty cute yourself. Are you sure you aren't already in love with me? It's okay if you are I won't be mad." She teased. Yuqi rolled her eyes. "And they say I'm the cocky one." She took Shuhua's hand intertwining their fingers as she walked into the mall. "So my spoiled princess... Where do you want to go first?" Shuhua smiled at the nickname and looked around. "What's that store with all the pins?" Yuqi tilted her head thinking. "Ah I know the one you're talking about. Let's go then." She led the way as she knew her way around the mall very well by now. 

Upon entering the store Yuqi watched as Shuhua's eyes lit up. "Wahh I love this place." She looked around at everything knowing full well she only ever bought the pins. "Yuqi! Look at the avatar stuff!" Yuqi began to walk twords the small section with her. "You are fire nation right?" Shuhua nodded with a smile. "Fire nation through and through." Yuqi hummed as she looked at the keychains. It wasn't much but she knew it was something the girl would like. After a moment she had picked out a pair of matching keychains. One fire nation and one earth kingdom. "What do you think?" She showed them to Shuhua making sure to let her see that they spun and had stuff on the back. "Ooh I love it." Yuqi smiled and nodded. "Perfect." She then led the way to the Disney themes bags. "Ooh look!" Shuhua pulled down a small bag that had an Alice in wonderland theme to it. "Look at the little rabbit! 'I'm late I'm late.' It's me." Yuqi couldn't help but chuckle as Shuhua spoke the rabbits line in English her cute accent showing. "It is you. You were late for a very important date. But I forgive you." She winked playfully. "Come on we know where you really want to look." Yuqi pulled Shuhua to the small section filled with pins. The two began to look through the box showing each other ones they found. "Look at it it's so cute... and it has a friend!" She held up a pair of pins with little octopi on them. "Yuqi we need them." The other girl held her hand out with a smile asking to see them better. "They are pretty cute." She nodded adding them to a small basket. "Pick some more." Shuhua nodded smiling brightly. After a few minutes Shuhua had a handful trying to narrow it down. She put them down as she decided she didn't need them but Yuqi secretly put them in the basket. "Okay got it! I'll just get these three." She held them up showing Yuqi. It was the two octopi and an axolotl with banana milk. Yuqi smiled and nodded. "They're very cute. You can go first." She motioned for her to go to the counter to pay. Once Shuhua was done she also paid for her own. In the end she had about fifteen pins most of which were some she got for Shuhua but she had also gotten some for herself. She took the bag thinking the woman behind the counter before meeting Shuhua at the door. "Ready?" Shuhua nodded taking her hand. "Where to next?" Yuqi hummed as she looked around. "Well..." She spotted another store she knew Shuhua loved. "How about that?" Shuhua looked at it excitedly. "Ooh let's go!" She eagerly pulled Yuqi with her. 

Upon entering the store they were greeted by a smiling lady. "Hello there. Just wanted to let you know all pride items are fifty percent off. You two are a cute couple by the way." Yuqi blushed. "Thank you ma'am." She didn't bother correcting her. Shuhua tilted her head looking around the store to see where she wanted to look first. "Ooh Yuqi!" She saw a giraffe plushie with big eyes. "It's you." She picked it up hugging it. "Look so soft." Yuqi couldn't help but chuckle. "You could just hug me the real deal." Shuhua tilted her head with a small smile. "Are you asking for a hug? On the first date? Scandalous." She hugged Yuqi for a second. Yuqi chuckled softly and rolled her eyes. "You say that like there will be more dates. Are you admitting you're falling for me?" Shuhua made a face. "You're pretty sure I will aren't you?" Yuqi nodded with a smile. "No one can resist my charm." Shuhua shook her head and grabbed a basket putting the stuffed giraffe in it before going to the section with hats. She looked at all of them tilting her head. "Ooh this one's cute." She picked up a black bucket hat putting it on Yuqi's head. "Wow it was made for you I think." Yuqi did a cute pose flashing the peace sign at her. "Really?" Shuhua couldn't help it she pulled out her phone taking a picture. "There perfect." Yuqi watched as she set the photo as the background on her phone. "Tahdah. perfect." Yuqi smiled softly. "Here try this on." She carefully placed a tan colored barret on her. "There. Now pose." Shuhua put her hand under her chin with a small smile as Yuqi took a picture. She set it as her own wallpaper. Shuhua put the barret back and took the one from Yuqi's head putting it in the basket. "Ah Shu I don't know these hats are kind of expensive." Shuhua looked at her raising an eyebrow. "Yeah and it's kinda really cute on you. I'm buying it." Yuqi pouted. "You don't have to." Shuhua smiled. "I want to. It's a date I'm allowed to splurge on you a little." Yuqi pouted still but nodded. "Thank you..." Shuhua smiled more and took her hand again. "Come on I want to look at the journals." She led her to the section where they had all sorts of cute stationary. 

By the time they had finished in that store Shuhua was begining to get hungry. "Food court?" Yuqi asked already knowing the girl well enough to know she would be hungry by now. "Please." Yuqi smiled and led the way not letting go of her hand. "What do you want to eat?" Shuhua looked around at all the different stalls and hummed. "That japanese place is always good." Yuqi nodded and pulled out a chair for Shuhua at a table. "Wait here I'll go get our lunch. The usual right?" Shuhua nodded with a smile. "Yes please!" Yuqi left with a nod. Shuhua pulled out her phone a smile coming to her face as she saw the picture of Yuqi. "Hey beautiful." A man maybe a few years older leaned against the chair across from her where Yuqi would soon be sitting. "I saw you here with your friend and I thought I had to take a chance." Shuhua raised an eyebrow. "A chance at what?" Shuhua asked. He flashed a charming smile. "Well I was hoping you'd let me get your number and maybe take you on a date. Maybe once you're done with your little girls day thing you're doing?" Shuhua leaned back in her seat crossing her arms. "Little girls day thing? It's called a date. I'm here with my date." The man looked a little shocked. "Oh you... Sorry I just thought a beautiful girl like you wou-" Shuhua cut him off. "Would what? Wouldn't be gay? Would want to date you? You shouldn't assume that everyone is straight. What if my date hears you call this a girl's day? She might doubt herself that she's not doing enough to make it clear." She looked in the direction Yuqi had gone and spotted her staring impatiently their way. "You shouldn't randomly approach women you don't know." He stood up and bowed apologetically. 

Yuqi came back with food in her hand and a pout on her lips. "Who's your new friend?" She asked immediately a jealous edge to her voice. "New friend? You mean the guy who randomly came to ask me on a date while I am already on one?" Yuqi nodded. "I don't know his name. I sent him away. I am not the type to do that. Especially not to someone I actually care about." Yuqi couldn't help the smile that came to her face. "Well... Thank you..." Shuhua smiled back at her. "No, thank you for getting us lunch." Yuqi pulled out two sets of chopsticks She split them carefully before rolling them between her hands to get rid of splinters. "Here you go." She passed a set to Shuhua. "Thank you." Shuhua smiled softly as she couldn't help but notice how thoughtful the other girl was. "Hey Yuqi..." The Chinese girl looked up at her her cheek already puffed out as she had taken a big bite of food. "Even if we don't think of this as a real date I am having fun today." Yuqi blushed a bit and nodded. She quickly swallowed her food before speaking. "I'm having fun too. Why wouldn't we think of it as a real date though?" Shuhua shrugged a bit but didn't make eye contact. "Aren't you scared of actually catching feelings?" Yuqi just looked at her for a second thinking. "Don't be silly I know my heart would be safe with you." She used her chopsticks picking up food from her own plate offering it to Shuhua. 

The two finished eating and began to walk around again. As usual they were hand in hand Shuhua's head rested on the other woman's shoulder. "One more store?" Yuqi nodded and smiled. "You're getting tired?" Shuhua nodded lightly. "Yeah. We should go home soon." Yuqi squeezed her hand gently. "One more store then." They walked into another store. It was one they had been to many times before. They stayed close as they looked at everything around the store. "I've always thought about buying clothes from here but I never have. Miyeon unnie bought this for me though." She showed her a dress. "I remember that one it looks good on you." Shuhua smiled and nodded a bit. Yuqi played with the girls fingers. As they looked around they stayed close. And soon enough they left. Yuqi insisted on carrying the bags as Shuhua looked like she was ready to fall asleep. The woman must've woken up early to get ready. She opened the door to her car for Shuhua with a smile. "Come on spoiled princess get in." Shuhua smiled a bit and got in the car. "Thank you." Soon enough they were on their way home.

In the car Shuhua continued to hold the woman's hand when as she dozed off. Yuqi couldn't help but look at her. As she started to think about it she realized maybe she really did have feelings for her. Thinking back she had always had a soft spot for her. She would do basically anything for her and even when she complained it was usually just her joking. She thought about all the times she would get sick and Shuhua would refuse to leave her side. And when she was picked on for her voice how Shuhua would stand in front of her and scare away anyone who came near. The two had always had a connection and just accepted it as a deep friendship but maybe it was something more. Soon they were home and she gathered their bags before waking the girl. "Shuhua hey we're home. Come on you can get changed into comfy clothes and take a nap." The girls eyes fluttered open and she looked at Yuqi. "You don't have to carry all that..." Yuqi crinkled her nose. "I want to. Now come on." She took her hand helping her up but not letting go. The two made their way to their apartment. "Hey Shu. You know I would take good care of your heart to right?" Shuhua looked at her taking a second to realize what she meant. "I know. There's no one in the world as kind and loyal as my Yuqi." She squeezed her hand. "Your Yuqi?" Shuhua nodded. "Yeah mine. If you'll be mine." Yuqi couldn't help but blush a bit. "I thought I would be the one to ask." Shuhua gently nudged her with her shoulder. "Well then go ahead and ask." Yuqi turned to her clearing as she took both hands. "Shuhua. Will you-" Shuhua smiled and nodded. "Yes." Yuqi pouted a bit. "Shuhuaaaa..." The girl giggled softly. "Sorry sorry continue." Yuqi nodded clearing again. "Will you date me? And be my spoiled princess?" Shuhua leaned in kissing the girls cheek softly. "Yes I will. I always have been we just didn't realize it." Yuqi wrapped her arms around the other woman pulling her into a hug. "Good and I won't be sharing." Shuhua smiled. She always secretly adored the possessive side of Yuqi. "I wouldn't dream of it either." 

They got inside their apartment and went to their separate rooms to change. Just as Yuqi was about to leave her room there was a light knock. "Yes?" Shuhua peeked in holding her blanket and a pillow. "Nap time?" Yuqi flashed her a big smile. "Cuddling? After the first date? Scandalous." She teased as she pulled the woman into the room and twords the bed. They laid down and got comfy as Shuhua nestled into her arms. "Hey Woogie." She looked down at her. "Yes Shu?" The taiwanese woman had a mischievous glint in her eye. "Since you confessed first that means I won the bet where's my prize?" Yuqi chuckled and rolled her eyes. "Is a girlfriend not a good enough prize for you?" Shuhua shook her head. "I wanted a kiss from my girlfriend too." Yuqi gently placed her hand under the girls chin guiding her to meet her lips for a soft kiss. After a moment they broke the kiss looking at each other. 

Note: Shuqi is a great ship one I think definitely deserves more love. Anyway this is the last of the planned stories. Maybe I can do more later. I hope everyone enjoys them and let me know if there's any others you'd like to see. Also the teacher in the begining was inspired by a teacher I had. I still can't believe a history teacher said Australia isn't a country.
