Act 1 Scene 1
And, Scene! It's 8:52am, there's birds chirping outside and the school grounds are empty. Cinematography, I type into my laptop, then erase, then type again. This gives the illusion that I'm taking notes and listening, even if I'm not. I'm so sleepy I can't even make out what the professor is saying. Just 8 more extremely long minutes and it will be my last class before midterm break.
"Right, Miss Shimizu?" the professor prompts, suddenly looking at me. Oh .
I make myself look at him and nod, blindly agreeing to whatever he said, "yes."
I tuck a strand of hair behind my ears, this is awkward. Please don't ask another question please please. He pushes his glasses which were perched low on the bridge of his nose, upwards and clearing his throat before continuing with the lesson. I look to my right, my friend, Pearl is sitting with a pencil in hand, doodling. She meets my eye. "What did I just agree to?" I ask. She shrugs, "Bro, beats me. Something about not taking this class seriously or something." she replies half heartedly.
Pearl is great in class but her only weakness is... she isn't a morning person. It's obvious, seeing as her get-up for today's morning class is as lazy as lazy gets. A black hoodie and her favourite pair of mom jeans. Still better than my brownish sweater on top of a white shirt and black jeans, but no one even looks at me so who's judging? That's right, no one!
I dragged Pearl into taking this class with me so we could finish it earlier than the rest and be able to spend the day off. Then, she could help me out with the project we have. Oh what a day to relax. A day to sleep and binge watch the Office. For ramen and pyjamas.
"Before you guys head on out, I'd like to remind you of your midterm project. This counts as 60% of your grade in my class. You have to capture the essence of romance in a 1 minute short film," the professor ends his lecture. I look down at my watch, it's 5 minutes before time. "Have a good midterm break, everyone." He yawns. I guess we're not the only ones who aren't morning people. Kudos to you, sir for the early dismissal.
Pearl is quick to get up, putting her things into her bag. I do the same.
As we're walking out of the class, my phone vibrates in my hand. I lift it up to check, it's a text message from an unknown number.
Ren? Is this you?
Hi, who is this?
It's me, aunt June! How
have you been? We just
boarded! otw to LA!!!
Hi, aunt June! I've been
great, thank you! Sorry,
who's we again? :-)
Don't be silly, darling! Me
and the management
of course!
Just then, it dawned on me. Ohhh crap! I put my phone down slowly, in disbelief. Pearl looks back at me as she noticed I'd stopped walking. I didn't even know I stopped walking. "What's wrong?" she asks.
"I forgot about that job I recklessly agreed to!"
A few hours had passed by. By this time, it's 11am. Few hours is an understatement. It's been 2 hours of Pearl and I pacing about, not knowing what to do.
"You forgot! Just like that, woosh! You forgot you had a job!" Pearl shakes her head at me in disbelief.
To back it up a little, my godmother had contacted me about a month ago, asking for my assistance and taking on the role as her assistant manager. I accepted, since I thought to myself I could use the experience and why not? But I didn't really know what I was getting myself into!
The frown on my face become more prominent. Aunt June had asked me to air bnb them a nice house. Fit for 7 idols and maybe a few staff. Where do I find a nice house in just a few hours? What did I get myself into, dear Lord! This was supposed to be a nice day, I was going to brainstorm for my project, maybe watch a movie and--
"I got it!" Pearl exclaims, knocking me out of my panicked trance. She hurriedly sits me down on my bed. I
