Day Off

Value of Love

Morning of the next day came with the daylight shining the rays in small gap between the curtains telling Hakyeon to woke up because it's kinda late already. Hakyeon woke up eyeing his clock punching him hard that it's already 8:00 AM. Exhausted or not, replenished or not, Hakyeon prayed and reached out for his phone beside his alarm clock who didn't bother him in his sleep that's why he woke up late. Sliding the screen open because he didn't put passcode or pattern code to lock his phone, the message from their manager that today is the group's dayoff cancelling their schedule planned yesterday gave him an upper cut jab that made him jumped out and up from his bed.

Today is their dayoff but they had to go for a day of healing. Their manager had booked them in private resort for the whole day. He knew already the why behind this sudden dayoff or healing or whatsoever they call it. Without preamble, he walked out his bedroom and wake up s.

Hakyeon stood up in front of the first door he approached. Didn't know what to do, will he knock until the member inside woke up? Or will he shout even the members hated it? Hakyeon didn't just know what to do. But still he knocked and shout moderately enough to be heard to the other side.

“Leo!”

Hakyeon called for the main vocal but the said person didn't barge to give him a reply. He continued knocking and shouting moderately until a hand laid on his shoulder scaring the daylight out of him.

“Taek-...Leo?” Hakyeon jumped from being surprised.

The main vocal looked at the leader with a questioning look. One, why Hakyeon was so shocked? Is waking the members making Hakyeon nervous? Like the shouting will result of the members scolding him? Two, Why did Hakyeon called the singing prodigy by its stage name?

“Leo...you're awake already.” Hakyeon averted his eyes. “I'll wake the others.” Hakyeon turned his back and continued on the next door without giving Taekwoon anything to do yet.

Taekwoon watched the leader clenched and unclenched his hand before knocking at the doors and swallowing thickly before calling out for the names of the members. As the main vocal continued watching Hakyeon, he noticed the leader calling the members' name with so much distant and the callings felt like the leader didn't know the members well.

“Ken!” “Ravi!” “Hongbin!” “Hyuk!”

The constant knocking and alarming from the leader soon woke up the members. But they remained inside their bedrooms.

Hakyeon went back to the kitchen only to walked out and get back to his own room because Taekwoon was still on the kitchen. Hakyeon didn't want to disturb the vocalist. Hakyeon didn't mind packing his clothes because he has no reason to go with the members for their leisure. He made a call to his friend, and while still on the call, the door of his open without even a knock of warn. He rushed the call and put it down eyeing one of entered his room.

“Hakyeon-hyung...” The younger called out for Hakyeon but Hakyeon just looked at him skeptically.

“N.” Hakyeon said eyeing the member wasn't ready to continue his sentence.

“Hyung...” Jaehwan looked straight through the eyes of his leader looking for his kindness. “What plans do we have today?”

Without even paying the younger vocalist of his eyesight, the leader answered. “I'll talk about it later. Get out of my room.” Hakyeon said blatantly.

Jaehwan flinched. Not knowing what to say, he directed himself out of the room and went straight to the living room seeing the four had gathered already. He sat beside the maknae.

They waited for Hakyeon to emerged out from his room to inform them of what awaits them today. Leaning on one another, talking about little things in a friendly way, they sat until the subject came out his bedroom. Simultaneously, they looked at him in full attention. Eyeing him with full of longingness. Felt like Hakyeon has only been back from a month of away schedule from their dorm even though they were with him yesterday physically.

Hakyeon stood in front of them, all eyes on him, he announced of their day off today that they will go to a place to heal themselves from tiredness. Not telling the members that he himself will not go with them. Upon informing the members, they went inside their respective rooms with much delightment and excitement for the one day vacation and packed their belongings. Hakyeon went back inside his bedroom too.

One by one, they gathered at their living rooms with their not so full bags as they will only go to a day of leisure not a week. Looking at each other, they had a wary look as to why their leader haven't opted out his room yet. Wonshik took the initiation to call out for their leader.

“Hakyeon-hyung?” Wonshik knock once and peek his head before entering the room seeing the owner was still in his comfortable clothes lying on his bed.

The man sat up only to give the rapper a blank face. “N.” He said.

“And?” Wonshik inquired.

“N not Hakyeon.” Hakyeon stood up and is ready to go out his room but block by the man standing in front of his door.

Wonshik grab Hakyeon's wrist to stopped him from his trance. “Hak-”

“N.” Hakyeon cut the rapper's calling for his name at the same time of pulling off his wrist from Wonshik's grip.

“Hakyeon-hyung...” Stubborn he may result but Wonshik continued calling the leader by its true name since that's what he'd been used to. “Why didn't you prepared yourself? I thought we had-”

“Get out. I need to send you off.” Hakyeon pushed Wonshik lightly.

Hakyeon walked through their kitchen and open one cab from above. Pulled out a paper bag and peek inside before heading to the living room again. Hakyeon made his way to Taekwoon and hand him the paper bag.

“I made you all salads again. You might get hungry while on the run. Manager-hyung told me you all liked it...Let's go!” Hakyeon motioned his hand for the members to get out but the members stood like statue. Hakyeon with a few steps away from the door was stopped from his spot sensing the members were not following him. He went back to see them.

“Why weren't you all following me? Manager-hyung is waiting outside the building. He must be cold there hurry!” Hakyeon walked out the room even he felt the members were still not following him but he continued.

As soon as they heard the click sound from the door indicating that Hakyeon was outside already and had the door closed, Sanghyuk broke the silence.

“I thought Taekwoon-hyung made it?” Sanghyuk asked looking at each of his hyungs didn't know who to asked properly.

“Yeah I thought so...” Wonshik added.

“We were energized that day because of that salad. Even if were late we had a lot of good vibes in our body that's why we made a good guesting that day.” Jaehwan further narrated what brought them by the simple breakfast.

“I didn't make it. I made nothing. I only took it out from the fridge since Hyukkie is hungry that morning.” Leo said robotly.

“So if Hakyeon-hyung really made it, and Taekwoon-hyung made nothing...” Hongbin didn't know how to continue. But he knows he'll be mocked by the members once he ended his sentence. "...it was still Hakyeon-hyung who made that fruits and shakes?"

“Yah!” Wonshik yelled moderately. “You didn't even share the fruits. How stingy you are!” But Wonshik laughed because he didn't mean to mock his friend.

“And yet...” Jaehwan looked down feeling guilty.

“And yet we-...I made him feel bad yesterday.” Sanghyuk almost choked in his words.

Hongbin patted the back of their maknae to ease him.

Taekwoon remained silent. But smile is slowly dipping in his lips looking at the youngsters realizing what they did.

“I think Hakyeon-hyung will not come with us.” Jaehwan commented like he was a kicked puppy.

“I think so too...seeing him not fully clothe and he didn't even mind packing his clothes...” Hongbin supplied even more for them to be woken up from what they had done yesterday.

“I think Hakyeon-hyung was still hurt...” Sanghyuk said urgently after Hongbin ended his sentence. “...and I hated that.” Sanghyuk almost cried.

“I'll make him follow...” Taekwoon announced confidently. “Let's go!”

Chapter 27: As a hardcore Starlight, I've felt really bad for Yeonie and although he pretends like he doesn't take all the insults to heart, it still reflects in his face. Many times, or too many times, I was angry because he was discriminated for so many things, and especially his skin complexion. Though the boys claim to be simply teasing him, the hurt is still real and it hurts me to see him being mistreated too. I remember him asking to the camera in One Fine Day, "Am I too easy? Is that why they tease me too much?” that really broke me. They refused to be grouped with him. Refused to listen to him. Refused to do anything he ever suggested, whereas he's the leader. And no one could replace him.

I truly hope that it is really as what they're claiming, that it's all simple teasing and no personal hatred. I wish for VIXX's happiness, as all 6 of them together and I hope they understand the real value of Cha Hakyeon's love. And thank you for such emotional storyline, author-nim. From the way you narrated, I believe that you perhaps you found the mistreating towards Yeonie to be unfair and hurting and this was your way of defending him. I cried a lot but I loved your work from the bottom of my heart.

Once again thank you and FIGHTING for your future undertakings as well!

Chapter 26: In all honesty, there have been a few times that I cried because of how Hakyeon has been treated by s. Everything seemed to be so good in the beginning, but then, as if overnight, everyone started to outcast him and only ever complained or say negative things about him. Not to mention the hate or mistreatment he sometimes got from those outside of the VIXX members.
So many people say that the members love Hakyeon and are only teasing him, but I swear I saw real hurt on his face on more than one occasion, and if it was that bad on-camera, I couldn't imagine what happened off-camera.

That said, I was monitoring them closely the past year, and it seems that the relationships have gotten better than it was before. Of course, they haven't been on many shows as a group, so I can't really say, but a lot of the interactions I've seen have given me hope that VIXX are at a better place than they were before (I'm still iffy on Hongbin, but I'm still watching). I just hope that it will continue like this or get better as this year unfolds.

My point of all this is, I really didn't want to read this story because I knew I would cry. I did, several times, because it's a very believable concept that may have actually occurred (which would explain why the members are much nicer and more patient with Hakyeon since 2017/late 2016), is possibly occurring now (after all, we don't really know what goes on off-camera between them), or may occur in the future. Some part of me hopes that Hakyeon did or will "turn his back" on the others in some way (and care from afar, because I doubt he'd really desert them), so that they got/get a reality check and/or he realized/s that yes, he should put himself before anyone else, or at least not invest his whole heart and soul into people that only push him away.

Maybe I sound a bit harsh. I don't mean to. It's just that I was the same way, and though it hurt, and still hurts, I find not investing my heart and soul into anyone, while still caring for them (if that makes sense), is safer and hurts less than to be betrayed and frequently hurt by the ones you thought were your friends, family, brothers, sisters, or eternal presence that you couldn't imagine out of your life.... (the examples just examples; they all don't apply to me. :P)

But I wouldn't have felt right not reading this, so here I am. You did a wonderful job, especially since you said this was your first story. It made me cry, yes, but it made me happy that at least in this fictional world, VIXX has a happy open-ended resolution. I especially liked the way you wrote Jaehwan. Maybe people seem to forget that he has a serious side to him and can act like a hyung as well, but I loved the "just to remind you" part. He does have his moments where something sweet or emotional suddenly becomes sarcastic and/or, for lack of better word, "bratty." So awesome job on that!
I'm also happy that it seems not everyone is blind to the fact that Hakyeon might actually be hurt at times, and may have been (or is still) under-appreciated by the members at least at some point.

Oh, and just in case I may have given the wrong impression, I don't hold grudges against the other members. In fact, I easily move on from things if I see changes. For example, in all honesty, I liked everyone at first, but once things started going crazy, I despised Hongbin and Sanghyuk the most because they treated Hakyeon the worst (this was at the time Taekwoon and Wonshik were my bias, not Hakyeon, so I wasn't playing favorites). However, I noticed Hakyeon and Sanghyuk's relationship improved after the dissing war in 2016, to the point that now Sanghyuk actually lets Hakyeon do as he pleases to him for a while, so Sanghyuk has returned to being that softspot in my heart (which I am happy about. I loved ChaSang interactions during 2012 and some of 2013. It always warmed my heart, even now. And I love their interactions now. Although not the same as before, which is kind of sad, it's still sweet).
Hongbin, on the other hand, is really confusing me. One minute he's nice and actually plays with Hakyeon, and the next, he's very mean toward him (such as not giving a message to Hakyeon for their 5th anniversary, and begging Sanghyuk to tell him what to say to Hakyeon during his birthday special).
Because of that, I am still cautious and don't expect too much from Hongbin, but I am still looking out for any general improvements like I did with Sanghyuk and the other members.

Great job! Lovely story. ^ ^
