Broken Hug

Value of Love

Everyone was on their own rooms taking a bath. Sanghyuk who had just finished his bath, Wonshik walked pass over him to take a shower, sat on the center of his bed and scans his photos for uploads.

Sanghyuk posted his self-taken photos to his insta account with the intention of only posting and sleep off his phone because he has to still finished himself drying and change clothes not to his surprise he saw a new photo posted by the account he follows.

Hakyeon.

He looks so and really happy. With his smiles deemed to tear apart his cherry red lips almost reaching his heart shaped pair of ears. They resemble each other. It looks like their siblings.

‘They went on a vacation too? With only the two of them?’ The maknae asked his thoughts.

He continued scanning the feed of his account flooded by photos of them two, Hakyeon and his friend.

They shared a photo having their lunch. A photo inside the car probably taken beforehand, with Hakyeon's friend driving. They had a photo in a banana boat, in a flying insulated jetski pulled by a true jetski, they held hands to mention. They also had a photo in a room, again probably their shared room, lying in bed; Hakyeon had some green facial cream on his face while the other had a white facial mask. The very defying photo was they had a photo where they played 'yes or no ball' with their faces still covered by beauty products and still lying, on their stomach, on bed facing each other.

Sanghyuk lost his last bit of temper.

The maknae cleared his throat and thoughts. Sanghyuk can clearly remember 'yes or no ball' was only to play between lovers or group of friends shared secrets with each other. And yet, the two of them? Well, the results given by 'yes or no ball' was always ridiculous, but that made it funny to play.

Sanghyuk created a new chatbox and informed the others.

“How could he do this to us?” The rapper asked with no one obliged to answer since he thrown the question midair without looking at anyone.

“Hyung you said you'll make him follow!?” Hongbin commented half sentence half question.

“I tried...but he's not answering.” Taekwoon said.

“To be honest, I expected Hakyeon-hyung will not follow...but that doesn't mean I didn't hope he will.” Jaehwan confessed sadly.

“He could at least stay at the dorm instead of going out!” Sanghyuk throws a tantrum.

“Hyuk! Hyung is not a dog for us to tie him up...” Wonshik contradicted.

Silence swish like an air again. No one seems not to know how to break the ice. But someone needs to.

“I-...I'm...” Sanghyuk started to melt the ice but he doesn't just know how to, still he continues. “...jealous.” Sanghyuk finished. “How could Hakyeon-hyung chose someone over us?” Question ended his worries.

“Yeah...if it involves us...he will be there like a flash of lightning.” Jaehwan supplied by only making themselves more abandoned.

“Is Hakyeon-hyung starting to slip through our fingers?! Is hyung starting to revenge on us?! Is he rebelling? Starting to abando-” Hongbin almost hyperventillated, thanks to Wonshik who held his shoulders to stop the former to go on his despair.

“Hyung will not...I'm...quiet sure...with it.” Wonshik tries to reassured his friend but he himself is not fully convinced on what he had just said. Smacking some part of his brain for implanting false hope on his friend. 'What if Hongbin is right?' Wonshik asked himself but still remained positive that such thing will never happen, or even triggered.

“Let's just not jump to conclusions.” Jaehwan started. "Well if they have something intimate between themselves...we have to know. We're family right?" He asked.

“We almost do.”

The four looked at Taekwoon simultaneously.

“What do you mean hyung?” Wonshik asked.

“Huh?” Taekwoon ask back as if he had said something he did not put a lot of thoughts before saying whatever that is.

“You said 'we almost do' which contrasted Jaehwan-hyung's.” Sanghyuk supplied.

“Ahh...” Taekwoon paused for a while. “I just said those because I felt like I need to say something.” He coaxed.

“I'm sure they don't have...Hyung still needs to marry me.” Jaehwan joked.

Hongbin almost chuckled. “Yeah...I hope so.”

“I miss hyung...a lot.” Sanghyuk started to feel alone again.

The five of them were standing outside their dorm waiting for their manager to fully open the door. Once the manager keyed-in their passcode, they went inside, one by one, and took off their shoes.

Sanghyuk dashed inside the carpeted living room to flopped himself to the sofa but Hakyeon was there slouched comfortably on the couch. Startled, Hakyeon stood up to greet them. But the latter cannot fully convey his greetings since Sanghyuk enveloped the small figure of the tan man he misses the most, a lot. Even more startled, Hakyeon became stiff because of the sudden affection. Still, the leader reciprocate the hug enough for Sanghyuk to feel his arms around him. Sincere or not, if Hakyeon really did hug him, Sanghyuk tightens even more once he felt the arms around his waist. The maknae wanted to let all the emotions he had to send the leader yet, spill. Yes he knows he had been so mean to the leader who care a lot to him but remained selfless and continue loving the members, or this is just all an act?

“Hyung marry me!” He whispers to the leader's ear still hugging him. “Don't go anywhere please!” He continued.

“Hyuk!...looks like you wanted to crushed Hakyeon-hyung using your hugs.” Jaehwan throws a joke.

Hakyeon tapped the maknae's back to signal him to let go. But he just shakes Hakyeon while still hugging the smaller man. Hakyeon hold a grip on the maknae’s upperarm to release himself from the arms wrapping him, reluctantly, Sanghyuk let go.

“Change your clothes and rest.”

Sanghyuk almost flinched. Hakyeon sounded dead. ‘He is not sincere.’ Sanghyuk thought.

Hakyeon, before, would throw weak punches or neck slices to the members if they are silly or merely just playing. Sanghyuk thought Hakyeon would probably ruffle his hair or poke and tickle him for such immature word plays like 'marry me' but this time, Hakyeon didn't even pay him any attention to his teasings or did he heard him or what he had said to ignore him like that. Which this only made Sanghyuk felt like he was already swallowed by the ground. 'Why this hurt so bad?' He asks himself. 'I''m broke!' He told himself. But he didn't fully know if Hakyeon is the complete reason for his vast brokenness or he is just, well, merely exhausted.

The other four were statued on their own trance; Taekwoon in kitchen, Hongbin and Wonshik on the door frame of their respective rooms, Jaehwan one span away from the youngest, and Sanghyuk stilled on his feet as he watches Hakyeon took his steps towards his room with every bit of step the leader make would cause an emotional heartbreak in his already broken heart, Sanghyuk clenched his fist to his chest.

Unable to hold back anymore, Sanghyuk let his hot tears escape the boarder of few lashes. Jaehwan closes the remaining distance between them and hugged the maknae.

“He's still sulking Hyukkie...” Jaehwan tries to coax. “We still need to let Hakyeon-hyung know we love him more than he already knew.” He tried more until the sobs from the large figure he's hugging decreased.

“We really need to...and I really have to.” Sanghyuk said while escapes himself from Jaehwan's arms. The older smiled at him. He directed himself to his own room. Let his body fell on the bed, wipe his tears, and made himself aware of what missions he must do to reclaim the leader's affection. He also made himself aware that the pathway to that would not be easy, especially, they never had this kind of Hakyeon ever before, never.

Chapter 27: As a hardcore Starlight, I've felt really bad for Yeonie and although he pretends like he doesn't take all the insults to heart, it still reflects in his face. Many times, or too many times, I was angry because he was discriminated for so many things, and especially his skin complexion. Though the boys claim to be simply teasing him, the hurt is still real and it hurts me to see him being mistreated too. I remember him asking to the camera in One Fine Day, "Am I too easy? Is that why they tease me too much?” that really broke me. They refused to be grouped with him. Refused to listen to him. Refused to do anything he ever suggested, whereas he's the leader. And no one could replace him.

I truly hope that it is really as what they're claiming, that it's all simple teasing and no personal hatred. I wish for VIXX's happiness, as all 6 of them together and I hope they understand the real value of Cha Hakyeon's love. And thank you for such emotional storyline, author-nim. From the way you narrated, I believe that you perhaps you found the mistreating towards Yeonie to be unfair and hurting and this was your way of defending him. I cried a lot but I loved your work from the bottom of my heart.

Once again thank you and FIGHTING for your future undertakings as well!

Chapter 26: In all honesty, there have been a few times that I cried because of how Hakyeon has been treated by s. Everything seemed to be so good in the beginning, but then, as if overnight, everyone started to outcast him and only ever complained or say negative things about him. Not to mention the hate or mistreatment he sometimes got from those outside of the VIXX members.
So many people say that the members love Hakyeon and are only teasing him, but I swear I saw real hurt on his face on more than one occasion, and if it was that bad on-camera, I couldn't imagine what happened off-camera.

That said, I was monitoring them closely the past year, and it seems that the relationships have gotten better than it was before. Of course, they haven't been on many shows as a group, so I can't really say, but a lot of the interactions I've seen have given me hope that VIXX are at a better place than they were before (I'm still iffy on Hongbin, but I'm still watching). I just hope that it will continue like this or get better as this year unfolds.

My point of all this is, I really didn't want to read this story because I knew I would cry. I did, several times, because it's a very believable concept that may have actually occurred (which would explain why the members are much nicer and more patient with Hakyeon since 2017/late 2016), is possibly occurring now (after all, we don't really know what goes on off-camera between them), or may occur in the future. Some part of me hopes that Hakyeon did or will "turn his back" on the others in some way (and care from afar, because I doubt he'd really desert them), so that they got/get a reality check and/or he realized/s that yes, he should put himself before anyone else, or at least not invest his whole heart and soul into people that only push him away.

Maybe I sound a bit harsh. I don't mean to. It's just that I was the same way, and though it hurt, and still hurts, I find not investing my heart and soul into anyone, while still caring for them (if that makes sense), is safer and hurts less than to be betrayed and frequently hurt by the ones you thought were your friends, family, brothers, sisters, or eternal presence that you couldn't imagine out of your life.... (the examples just examples; they all don't apply to me. :P)

But I wouldn't have felt right not reading this, so here I am. You did a wonderful job, especially since you said this was your first story. It made me cry, yes, but it made me happy that at least in this fictional world, VIXX has a happy open-ended resolution. I especially liked the way you wrote Jaehwan. Maybe people seem to forget that he has a serious side to him and can act like a hyung as well, but I loved the "just to remind you" part. He does have his moments where something sweet or emotional suddenly becomes sarcastic and/or, for lack of better word, "bratty." So awesome job on that!
I'm also happy that it seems not everyone is blind to the fact that Hakyeon might actually be hurt at times, and may have been (or is still) under-appreciated by the members at least at some point.

Oh, and just in case I may have given the wrong impression, I don't hold grudges against the other members. In fact, I easily move on from things if I see changes. For example, in all honesty, I liked everyone at first, but once things started going crazy, I despised Hongbin and Sanghyuk the most because they treated Hakyeon the worst (this was at the time Taekwoon and Wonshik were my bias, not Hakyeon, so I wasn't playing favorites). However, I noticed Hakyeon and Sanghyuk's relationship improved after the dissing war in 2016, to the point that now Sanghyuk actually lets Hakyeon do as he pleases to him for a while, so Sanghyuk has returned to being that softspot in my heart (which I am happy about. I loved ChaSang interactions during 2012 and some of 2013. It always warmed my heart, even now. And I love their interactions now. Although not the same as before, which is kind of sad, it's still sweet).
Hongbin, on the other hand, is really confusing me. One minute he's nice and actually plays with Hakyeon, and the next, he's very mean toward him (such as not giving a message to Hakyeon for their 5th anniversary, and begging Sanghyuk to tell him what to say to Hakyeon during his birthday special).
Because of that, I am still cautious and don't expect too much from Hongbin, but I am still looking out for any general improvements like I did with Sanghyuk and the other members.

Great job! Lovely story. ^ ^
