"Have you taken a liking to me?" She/he turned around suddenly, startling the boy with the sudden question.

"What do you mean by that?" He asked, stunned that she/he would come to such a conclusion.

"Well...." She/he twirled a strand of her chocolate locks/he shuffled his feet awkwardly, almond shaped brown eyes downcast, as if she/he, too, was embarrassed by the question. "Do you like me? And don't say yes as in a friend." She/he said boldly, the last letter hitching on her/his breath.

He stood there for quite a few moments, before taking a deep breath and confessing the deepest, most darkest secret in his heart that he swore would never see daylight. "Yes. Yes, I did. And I regret it."
