When an old woman in a park tells she can see the red string of fate attached to every person's finger, people usually don't believe her. Even less if the person she tells so to is a guy who has been able to see them since he was born.

But he starts listening to her when she adds something common knowledge doesn't teach anymore and usually people ignore:

the strings attached to people's fingers are more than one, hundreds in truth, as you aren't linked to one and only one other person in your lifetime.

And he starts believing her when she actually takes in her hands a bunch of his own threads telling him she is able to read them.

 

"Does it mean you not only can see them but can also cut them?"

"Cutting a string of fate is actually easier than people think, dear. You just need to take a gun and point it to that person's chest, or you can run over them with your car, for example."

 

And looking at the woman gently caressing his strings he wonders: would she be able to tell him why one solitary thread of his goes upwards towards the sky, over the clouds?
