Miryung High School
1.30 p.m.

Students gathered in front of the main notice board in the middle of the hallway which opened to the courtyard where a lot of students hung out during recess, each of them eager to see the result of the recent mid-term exam. Since a lot of people were gathered in front of the notice board, some of them had to tiptoe and stretch their necks to catch a glimpse of the notice board. A few others took another attempt by snapping a picture of the result with their phones so that they could have a thorough look at it.

“Look, Minsun is number one again.”
“Nobody in the third year can beat Khun.”
“Agh! My ranking dropped!”
“Assa! You owe me samgyupsal!”

Just like every other students there, a particular boy too came with the same thought in mind. He began searching for his name from number 50 and downwards. When his eyes started traveling lower than usual, he wondered if his ranking was actually somewhere above the top 50. He began searching for his name upwards.

“There it is, your name, Jang Wooyoung.” A girl suddenly spoke from his behind. The boy, whose name was Jang Wooyoung didn’t even bother to look back because he knew exactly who that was; Yun Munhwa, his classmate, and also the secretary of the school’s basketball team which Wooyoung was active in.

“Where is it? Where?” Wooyoung frantically looked all over the pasted papers.

“There. The 170th.”

“WHAT?!” Wooyoung’s eyes widened and quickly traveled downwards. It was true. He was ranked 170th, exactly the tenth place from below of the second year’s.

“GAH!” Wooyoung’s hands flew to each side of his head, pulling out his hair.

There was a soft giggle coming from his behind, obviously from Munhwa. Wooyoung could only grit his teeth from anger.

“What about you?” Wooyoung slightly turned to his side.

“The 10th.” Munhwa said proudly as she pointed to her name with her eyes. 

“What should you do, Jang Wooyoung? The sunbaes’ won’t be happy to hear this,” Munhwa tried to scare him. Wooyoung left her question unanswered as he started heading towards the gym, looking pissed. Munhwa tailed him with a satisfied smile.




Miryung High Library
3.30 p.m.

“I’m leaving first,” Kim Gohee got up from her chair. She was a senior and also the president of the Mathematic Club. She and the rest of the four members were having their meeting as usual, studying for the topics that might come out for the next National Math Quiz.

“To the gym?” Minsun, a member from the second year who was usually spotted sporting a bun behind her head looked up from her practice book.

Gohee nodded. “Do you want to come along?”

Minsun smiled gently as she shook her head. “I’ll just stay here for a bit more,”

“What about the game tomorrow?”

“I’ll come to the game tomorrow,”

“See you tomorrow then,” Gohee waved to the rest of the Math Club members as she made her way towards the exit. At the door, she ran into Nichkhun, the school’s president of the student body. They greeted each other with a casual smile and a nod before proceeding to their own way.

Nichkhun continued his way towards the desk that was occupied by the Math Club members and took a seat where Gohee previously sat on.

“You are ranked first again and yet here you are sitting at the library right after the result is revealed,”

“What can I do? Seo Minsun’s life is only comprised of studying because she’s not good at anything else.” Minsun shrugged and smiled lightly when Nichkhun chuckled at her answer.

“Why are you here?” Minsun finally paused her studying and looked up from her book. Across of her, Nichkhun supported his chin on his hand and looked straight into her eyes, looking dashingly handsome doing so. However, Minsun could never think of him more than a cute childhood friend. The other girls who were with Minsun whispered to each other how handsome he was and softly giggled.

“Because I miss you,” he said that while smiling.

Minsun couldn’t help but smiled back. “Oppa…” Minsun replied in a slightly whiny tone, expressing her discomfort with his way of teasing her.

“Ok, ok, sorry about that.” Nichkhun straightened his back. “Actually Mrs. Shim asked me to find someone to substitute for one of our female participant for the upcoming chess competition.”

“When is that?”

“Hm, I forgot about it. I can give you the details later if you’re interested,”

“I think I can do it,”

Nichkhun’s feature brightened. “I’ll inform Mrs. Shim today. Thanks a lot, Minsun!”

Minsun smiled. “Don’t mention it,”

“Maybe I’ll treat you for dinner later,”

“You don’t have to,”

The girl on Minsun’s right elbowed her and whispered something, “You should totally go for it,”

“It’s okay,” Nichkhun told the girl, “Minsun has always been rejecting me ever since we were young,” he shrugged.

“Oppa, stop it.”

Khun just laughed it off as he got up, ready to leave the library. “See you later then,”




Miryung High Gym

Every week from Monday to Thursday, there will be practice sessions for the players of the school’s basketball team. Miryung High basketball team was the most well-known in Seoul, mainly for their unbeatable skills and their tall, good-looking players. They even received support from female students from other schools. However, they were not supposed to have practice session today, but held a special one anyway to get ready for a friendly match tomorrow at another school from the same district.

As usual, led by the third year student, Ok Taecyeon, the team practiced diligently. After a few hours, Taecyeon finally let the boys rest. They all took a seat at the benches along the sides of the basketball court in the gym hall. At times like this, the team's secretary, Munhwa would be distributing cold waters for the boys, including Wooyoung.

“Annyeong hasaeyo,” a gentle female voice echoed from the entrance. Everyone in the gym room turned their heads at the entrance and saw Gohee standing there in her school uniform and a rather large package of lunch box held with both hands.

Gohee smiled and waved at the large group, particularly to one person. They all directed their attention to that certain person and started to . 

“Hey, go help her with her things,” Taecyeon elbowed one of the main players of his team, Jaebum. Jaebum’s pale skin started to pink from all the naughty wolf-whistles. He lifted one arm, pretending that he would hit those naughty boys as he made his way towards Gohee.

“What do you have there?” Jaebum asked as he took away the lunch box from Gohee’s hands and walked towards the group again with Gohee by her side.

“Just some home made snacks.”

“You shouldn’t have troubled yourself,” 

“I saw something interesting!” Wooyoung stood up from the middle of the group, his eyes intensely watching the large box in Jaebum’s hand as the senior player took his seat at the bench again. 

“No way, Woo. These are all mine.” Jaebum quickly said, which earned him a light slap in the arm by Gohee.

“Don’t be mean. Don’t worry, Wooyoung. I made these enough for everyone here,” Gohee said as she unwrapped the cloth from the lunchbox and opened the large picnic box, revealing neatly sorted pieces of kimbab.

“WAH! Kimbab! My favorite snack! Gohee nuna, you’re the best!” Wooyoung jumped into the crowd, reaching for the delicious-looking kimbab. All the boys started to surround the very bench which the lunch box was placed on.

“Mmm! Sunbae, did you make these yourselves?” a junior called Chansung asked.

Gohee nodded. “Just for you guys,”

“Wah, Jaebum hyung is really lucky to have you as his girlfriend,” another junior, Junho, commented.

“He must be,” Gohee turned to Jaebum and smiled. Jaebum replied with a silent, smug smile as he secretly s his fingers between hers.

“Hey, I want some, too!” Munhwa who seemed ridiculously short between those tall basketball players couldn’t make through the crowd and missed out on the snacks. It was until later when everybody had enough and spread out, Munhwa finally was able to get closer to the lunchbox.

“What? Are the kimbabs gone already?” Munhwa pouted.

“Ah, there is one left, Munhwa!” Gohee picked up the last piece of kimbab and handed it towards Munhwa. But then, in a flash, that ery last piece was snatched away by none other than the famous prankster, Wooyoung. Before Munhwa even managed to open to complain, Wooyong plopped the little piece into his mouth and chewed it enough for him to swallow it.

“Y-Yah!” Munhwa shouted a weak protest.

“Yah!” Taecyeon gave a smack on Wooyoung’s head, but the boy couldn’t seem any more ignorant-looking. 

“How could you do that to a girl?” Taecyeon scolded, but Wooyoung just pretended like he didn’t hear a thing. He walked away from the rest and went to the middle of the court, picking up a ball and pretended like he was practicing a 3-pointer shoot, his specialty.

Gohee could only look at Munhwa with sympathy. 

“Mianhae, Munhwa. I’ll bring extra for you next time.” Gohee said in an attempt to make Munhwa feels better.

“It’s okay, sunbae. That jerk will just finish it off by himself. He’s always picking on me, it’s so annoying.” Munhwa mumbled and sat again to calm herself down.

“Aish, that kid! I’m going to make him clean up the gym all by himself today,” Taecyeon muttered to himself as he scratched his head. It’s not a weird thing to see Wooyoung pulling a leg on Munhwa. Those two had always been in conflict even though Munhwa gave up first on most of their cases, but it would be uncomfortable for them if their secretary got upset because of Wooyoung’s antics.

“We’re going to end the practice early today, why don’t you wait?” Jaebum suddenly asked Gohee, indifferent to his surrounding. 

“Okay.” Gohee smiled at him and watched as Jaebum too joined the court to continue their last practice before the match tomorrow morning.

I made up a lot of Korean names, I hope they don't sound weird =p This is more like the introduction for the main characters, so there isn't much going on. Can you guess the coupling yet? =p Next chapter will be up soon, hopefully!
