Chapter 13: Graduation Day
It Might Be You//Back at SOPA//
You run furiously up the stairs and walk into your vocal classroom. You quickly sit down, panting because you can barely breathe. You feel yourself sweating more and more as the minutes pass by, and your classmates stare at you.
"What happened to you, sleepy-head?" Kang Joon laughs.
"Shut it, you arrogant boy!" you yell.
"Calm down," he giggles, holding out a peace-sign.
"Kang Joon! Stop it! Y/N, how did it go? Did they accept the invitation?" your teacher asks from the front of the room.
"Yeah, they did," you firmly reply.
"What's wrong with your face though? You look very pale. Do you want to go to the nurse's office?" your teacher asks with a worried expression on his face.
"Maybe she needs to go to the guidance counselor. After all, you did make her see her ex-boyfriend," Kang Joon tells your teacher. The whole class gasps in shock.
"Heol. You met Mark?" a girl asks.
"No way! I totally forgot she and Mark were together!" another girl exclaims.
"Was he handsome? Was that flirty girl Herin there?" another asks.
Your classmates continue to flood you with questions, and even though the teacher tells them to stop, they don't stop. All they know about you and Mark is that you were together during your trainee days, and that's it. That's why during your first year at SOPA, a lot of your classmates gossiped about you in the hallways, knowing that you were the famous Mark Lee's ex-girlfriend.
"Yah! Stop questioning my best friend like that! You have no right to know anything about their past! Stop it you guys!" Jennie yells, standing up from her seat. The classroom becomes silent and the teacher lets out one big sigh. You mouth "thank you" to Jennie from across the room and she gives you a thumbs up.
"Aigoo! When will you kids ever learn to get along! And stop teasing Y/N!" the teacher exclaims, rubbing his head as if he had a massive headache.
The bell rings and the school day finally ends. You sigh while getting out of your seat. You attempt to walk out of the door when everybody has already left, but Jennie blocks your way.
"So, how did it go?" she grins.
"Ugh, even you?!" you groan, starting to walk towards your dorm.
"Yah! I just wanted to know how it went!" she smiles, running up to you as you walk at a brisk pace on the sidewalk.
"It went...well. I guess," you mumble.
"What exactly happened? Did you and Mark talk?" she asks, opening the door into your guys' dorm.
You quickly walk inside, take off your shoes, and plop yourself on your bed. Jennie does the same and turns towards you, waiting for an answer.
"Yeah, I talked to him. It was very brief though. He apologized for everything that he did. It made me feel really bad since he looked so sincere. He also asked if we could meet again and I said no," you tell her.
"I'm glad he apologized, but how dare you say no! Don't you want to get back with him?" she asks.
"We're not right for each other. I just want to finish my education and become a doctor. During the time that I was depressed, I always asked myself if Mark would have ever fallen in love with me if I wasn't a trainee or if I was just a fan," you tell her, feeling sad.
"What do you mean? Of course he would have fallen in love with you!" she exclaims.
"What if I had no talent? What if I never came to SM? Would he have still stayed as the arrogant man that he was before until now? Would he still be depressed? Would he ever get a taste of what it feels like to really be in love?" you ask, flooding her with questions.
"Y/N, stop. Things happen for a reason. Stop saying "what if". What happened already happened. Deal with whatever situation you're in right now. You two are meant to be. I know it," she smiles.
"If Mark truly loved me during those two years, he would have contacted me. He would have sent me a text or sent letters at least. Never not once did he do that," you tell her.
"Maybe he was just busy! You can't expect him to contact you!" she exclaims.
"Jennie, he would have still done something. I left without saying goodbye. He should have at least contacted me once," you tell her.
"Whatever. Don't worry too much about that. I know he loves you," she smiles.
You just give her a small smile and lie back down, turning your back towards her. Tears start to flow out of your eyes. Your heart feels like it is about to burst into a million little pieces. You want to tell yourself that you've been over Mark long ago, and that you're alright with him being with Herin again, but you just can't. During the two years that you weren't at SM anymore, you've forced yourself and succeeded in not being able to think about him too much. Just as the pain finally went away, you see Mark again and your love for him comes back.
"Y/N," you hear Jennie say.
"Hm?" you quietly ask, still having your back facing her.
"Don't cry," she tells you.
You turn around and face her, "How did you know?"
She slightly smiles, "You're my best friend. I just know. Don't cry. You haven't cried since your depression phase and seeing you cry makes me really sad."
"Sorry," you quickly reply.
"I'm not great at giving love advice since I've never had a boyfriend myself, and this might sound cheesy, but, fight for him. Seeing him after two years wasn't planned at all and this is a sign that you two are truly meant to be. Fight for him until the end, Y/N," she tells you.
"It's no use. Thank you though," you smile, turning away again.
//Graduation Day//
"Y/N! Hurry up! I need to take a shower or else we're going to be late!" you hear Jennie yell through the bathroom door. You're still drying your wet hair and quickly putting own some ginseng cream, but you're so nervous that you can barely breathe. Your fingers are shaking so much and your knees feel like they're about to break into two.
"I'm coming!" you breathe, quickly fixing your hair. You walk out of the bathroom with your knees shaking.
"Yah! Are you alright?!" Jennie asks, feeling your forehead.
"I'm fine! I'll just do my makeup," you tell her, beginning to hyperventilate.
Your hands continue to shake even more as you search for different makeup products. Jennie worriedly looks at you before going into the bathroom, but you give her a thumbs up and tell her to not worry about you. You both finish getting ready and put on your school uniforms. It's finally your graduation and you've gotten accepted into Seoul University. You and Jennie walk with the other graduates to school, and you sit down next
