After A Long Long While“Congratulations, you’re pregnant. The fetus is 10 weeks old, that’s why you staring to feel nausea and have bigger appetite.” She smiles to both of us. “You’re going to be a father, sir. Congratulations.” She adds when she looks at me.
The whole room suddenly becomes silent in my ear, it’s like what the doctor just said shuts my hearing ability completely. A father? Me? AeRi’s pregnant? WHAT?!!
Apparently, I’m not the only one that stoned in my seat, AeRi looks even worse. She blinks a view times with her jaw dropping, clearly processing what she just heard.
“No.” The first word that comes out of her. “No, no, no.. no, no. there’s no way, no!” She’s shaking her head in disbelieve.
“Are you sure about the result, doctor? We believe there’s a mistake.” I try to translate AeRi’s reaction into better phrase to the doctor.
“And what makes you think it’s a mistake?” the doctor replies, looking offended by our doubts.
“Seven years ago, “AeRi begins, “I was diagnosed that I’m infertile. It’s not like I haven’t tried so hard to have babies, but I got my verdict. So, I’m pretty sure you diagnosed me wrong. I mean, for god’s sake, seven years later I’m fertile out of the sudden, impossible.” She still gets the blank expression in her face.
Our doctor seems to understand the confusion, so she re-eximine AeRi’s record. We’re waiting in complete silence, not knowing what kind of news we’re actually expecting.
