“Come on! Park there!”

“What, no, that is way too ing small.”

“You’re just inexperienced in the art of driving.”

Baekhyun rolled his eyes, exasperated. I merely laughed. It was nighttime and we were in the parking lot of a large park. They were showing fireworks tonight.

The midsummer breeze tousled my hair as I stepped out of Baekhyun’s car. I looked up and saw a million stars. It was absolutely stunning. I turned to look at Baekhyun, who was looking at me. He smiled.

“In dim lighting, you’re actually kind of beautiful.”

“Thank you, baby!”

“Don’t get too cocky, now. I only said kind of.”

He laughed a little, and took my hand firmly. We weaved our way out of the parking lot and through throngs of people, onto the beach. It was full of people. Eventually, we found a tiny unoccupied spot. Baekhyun spread his windbreaker on the sand for us to sit on.

I leaned on his shoulder. He gazed up at the sky in boyish wonder. He looked so adorable when he was taken with excitement.

Within mere seconds, the first set of fireworks began. Brilliant bursts of gold exploded against the inky sky. Baekhyun gasped in awe. But as dazzling as the fireworks were, seeing Baekhyun’s face illuminated under them was a view I couldn’t resist.

“Myunghee,” he breathes, “you should look at the fireworks. They’re so cool.”

I cracked a little smile.

“Seeing you like this is cooler.”

Baekhyun snapped his head down to look at me.

“Did you just say something nice?”

“Uh! No! I said, uh, you must be cold. Without the windbreak--”

I was cut off by a kiss.

My eyes fluttered shut, the taste of peppermint on my lips, his scent in my nose, and the explosions of fireworks in the background, the thought of Byun Baekhyun being mine forever, on my mind.
