Chapter 21
The Rebellious Bride
I tossed and turned in bed busy of thinking how I'd finished involved in the world that my grandmother created as a fantasy, and it was a reality before my eyes.
"I need to keep my senses on alert" I said, passing the brush through my hair which this day was more docile than others. I was preparing to go with Mir to his family's house as he promised me to advocate for the return of the scholarship to my friend. I didn't want to think that Jae Rim had something to do with help his plastic friend to receive the scholarship that my friend fought to win. But under the circumstances I didn't doubt it was so.
"Jin Ah!" cried my mother "Mir is here!"
I went to the window and saw him standing against a white convertible car. It still amazes me his incredible appeal that I refused to accept when I saw him at his home, and then in college. Well, it is clear that his fairy genes exceed its human condition.
Mom just smiled at me when I went to give her a kiss before leaving. I think if it will be at Dad's home, he would have uncorked the bottle of Dom Perignon that jealously he locked in the mini wine cellar.
"Hello" I said to Mir. I felt the soft warmth of the sun the exposed skin of my arms.
"Hmm" he muttered as a greeting. Mir looked today like was the negative side of the tender and considerate man that kissed me in the garden of the hotel.
"What bug bit you?" I asked, determined not to get into the car until he tell me what was wrong.
"Up" he opened the passenger door.
"No" I crossed my arms.
"Don't be stubborn" he insisted.
"I will not go up until ..." he grabbed my arm and got me into the car despite my reluctance, then he buckles up "You're a ..."
"Your neighbors are very gossipy" he said gazing Mrs Han, who without disguise had stopped watering the plants of her wide garden, and looked at us almost without blinking.
Mrs. Han saw me and my sister as we were trash, always comparing us with her well educated and beautiful daughter. The jewel of Korea as ridiculously she called her. Indeed she was really beautiful, but was conceited and saw herself married to a chaebol. I remember how both grimaced, as it has been swallowed a hot pepper, whenever my mom spoke in the close relationship we have with the Baek.
"If her daughter was here, it would have come to introduce herself" I said.
"I don't want anybody but you, Jin Ah" His answer made my ego inflates, so I see an opportunity to throw the ball at someone's head.
"Good morning, Mrs. Han!" I screamed so loudly. She became pale and shook the hand lowering the head entering her house.
"You're a reckless" said Mir uncomfortable.
"Why? That lady is a gossipy conceited, I just gave her a taste of her own medicine.
"You want her to try to convince me her daughter is better than you?"
"Uh ..." I did not realize what he meant "You..?"
"I have not ever seen her if you think so, I just scrutinized that woman’s mind while I waited for you"
"You read minds?"
He smiled passing a finger through the center of my palm. I felt a strong tingling by the soft rubbing that made me want to jump on him and eat him with kisses.
"Get a grip, intense girl"
"Don't read my mind, I forbid you"
"With you I don't, but your heart pumps faster and the color of the vein in your neck, is more intense"
I shook my head to eradicate any intention of my body to jump over him. He starts up the car and within minutes, we're on the access road to the highway.
"Now can you tell me, what was thinking Mrs. Han"
"I don't want you to get grouchy"
"I will not do it"
"Well" he sped up a little "She believes her daughter, Yonghwa, would be a better girlfriend than you because you..."
"What am I?"
"I'm not going to say the rest"
"Baek Mir"
"Jin Ah" he sounded like Mr. Wook, my math professor in high school when he scolded me.
"Tell me, what am I"
"The most beautiful and special thing I have in my life" he said to soft me, but I'm so pissed that ignored.
