Your POV:

I quickly grabbed my bag as I headed for the door. Checking the clock ever five seconds, I whined at how late I was. 

Opening the door, I run into my best friend.

Falling back a bit, he caught me and held me up. I sighed as I watched my stuff fall to the floor. Chuckling, he examined me, "Are you running this late?" He bent down to pick up my books and papers. I bent down, as well, and grabbed my stuff, hastily.

"Slow down, girl. You're crumpling up your papers!" He took the papers and books that I held, and sorted them while I stood up and rushed to his car. 

"Thank you for coming to get me a such short notice, Kevin. By the way I'm going, I'd miss the bus if I walked!" I opened the door to his car and slammed the door. Finally breathing, I watched as he made his way to his car; shuffling my papers and books.

My fingers taped impulsively, marking the time it took for him to reach the door. 

When Kevin finally reached the car, he opened the door and handed me my papers and books and got into the car. Turning it on, he asked, "Now, where am I taking you, again?" He backed up from the drive way.

Rubbing my head, I sighed, "To school. You're taking me to school. How can you forget that we have school?" I asked, turning my head towards him. Once I looked at him, I realized he was just teasing me. I hit him, playfully. "Jerk."

Laughing, Kevin shook his head. "You know I like messing with you." He gave me a wink. 

I crossed my arms, knowing that he was right. I continued to rub my head, hoping for the stress to go away. "Don't do that today. If I'm late again, Mr. Tennant will keep me after school. Ugh." I sunk into my seat. Looking out the window, I noticed some of my fellow classmates running to their cars or bikes. I guess I'm not the only one running late, I thought to myself. 

I felt Kevin glancing over at me as he drove. He cleared his throat, "Do you know what today is?" He asked, poking me to get my attention.

I shook my head, fixing my eyes onto him. 

He gasped and quickly looked at me. "How can you not know what today is? It's the most epic day of the year! The only day you can get to yourself!" Kevin nudges me. "Come on, take a guess." 

Rolling my eyes, I took a guess. "Alone Day?" 

"Aish. No. Try again."

"Can't you just tell me?" 

"Neh, fine." Kevin made a face. "You're no fun." He pulled into the school parking lot and parked into his designated space. Turning off the car, he twisted his body, grabbing a bag from the back. Pushing it to me, he hyped up, "It's your birthday!"

Hitting my forehead with my hand, I exclaimed, "How could I forget! Aish! I must have been rushing out the door so fast, I completely forgot!" Smiling, I took the bag and checked the inside. 

Inside was some kind of cloth. Pulling it out, I realized it was a beautiful purple dress. Gawking, I turned and hugged him, tightly. "Omo! Thank you so much!" Releasing him and continued to gawk at the dress. By the way it looked, it had to be expensive!

I was about to say something to Kevin, but he was already out of the car and opening my door to help get me out. Smiling, I carefully put the dress back into the bag, picked up my books and papers, took Kevin's hand, and exited the car.

"Aigoooo!" I whined, sitting down for lunch. I opened my bag with my lunch, starving to eat. Kevin came up and sat down next to me, holding a tray from the cafe line. Ogling his food, I took out my pathetic lunch. Peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a bag of chips. What? I was late getting out, don't judge my quick food!

Taking out the sandwich, I couldn't help but realize how good today's cafe's food looked and smelt. Trying not to make a face, I turned my face away from Kevin and ate my sandwich in peace. 

I heard a sigh from Kevin, and then a poke. Glancing over, Kevin was holding out a chopstick with a piece of chicken on it. He smiled and pushed it towards me. "Go ahead, it's really good." 

Unsure, I said, "But it's your food." I made movements to show that I didn't want it, but Kevin pursuaded. 

"I know you want it. Here, say 'ah'." He opened his mouth to show me what to do. 

I couldn't help but laugh as I followed suit. The chicken melted in my mouth. "Omo!" I exclaimed, closing my eyes and chewing slowly; savoring the taste. 

Kevin chuckled, taking a bite for himself. "It is really good today. Maybe it's because the chiefs know it's your birthday!" He smiled huge and offered me another bit. 

Taking it, I shook my head. "Oh, no," I covered my mouth as I spoke. "I think it's because we have that new chief from Japan. I heard he's really good at cooking!" Focusing on my own food, I couldn't help feel jittery. Something about Kevin today seemed different. Maybe it was his hair?

Either way, my heart skipped a beat as he touched my arm. Ignoring the feeling, I faced him. "What?"

Taking ahold of my chin, he looked at my lips. Thinking that he's going to kiss me, I slightly pull away.

"No, wait, there's something on your face."

Embarrassed, I watched as he took a napkin and wiped away some jelly off of the corner of my mouth. His touch was soft and he was careful, as if holding a baby in his hands. For some reason, all I could do was stare at his eyes.

Noticing, Kevin gazed back at me and grinned. "What is it?" He stared straight into my eyes.

Not wanting to melt, I turned to open my chips. "Nothing, I was just zoning out for a minute." I glanced back at him.

"Oh..." He shrunk back in his seat, looking a bit disappointed. Confused, I wondered if something was wrong. Taking a bit of my sandwich, I offered it to him. 

"Here! It really is quite yummy! It has a secret ingrediant, too!" I smiled, trying to cheer him up.

With a faint grin, he took it. "What? Poison?" He laughed.

Mouth open, I sarcasically said, "Yes, and you have a problem?"

He only smiled as he took a bite of the piece. He closed his eyes. "Mmm.... This is good. Who made it?" He looked at you. 

"I did." I took another bite from my sandwich and then ate a couple of chips.

Kevin beamed and continued to eat.

Later, after school, Kevin decided to take me somewhere secret. "We haven't been here in a while." Was all he told me as he lead me. Confused and curious, I kept asking and guessing what it could be.

Shaking his head, he'd always say, "It's a birthday surprise!"

We reached a couple of trees and once Kevin pushed them out of the way, I knew excatly where we were. 

"Ah! This is the secret hiding spot!" I exclaimed, sitting down were I normally would have sat. "I would sit here, while Amber would sit there," I pointed to the left of me. "And then you'd sit there!" I pointed to the left of were Amber would of sat.

Kevin sat to the right of you. "Yeah, but when it was just us two, I'd sit right here." He leaned closer than usual.

Not really caring, I nod and smile. "Yeah! Gosh, so many great memories here." I thought, looking up and around. 

Kevin only nodded. "Yeah, many memories..."

Kevin's POV:

I took her hand, not wanting to let go but knowing I would the second I held your hand. Trying to hide any sadness, I spoke softly. "This is where we first became friends, remember?"

You nod, smiling at me with your beautiful smile, melting my heart away. Your eyes showed all the good memories, which I was happy. I didn't want you to think about the bad ones...

Mentally shaking my head, I flattened my back against the ground, putting my hands behind my back. Gazing up at the clouds, I noted, "It looks like it might rain." I watched you. 

You looked up, unknowingly changing your expression. I kept myself from hugging you as I observed your facial expressions. Several emotions fell upon your face as you stared up at the clouds. The main one being suffering. 

Why do you suffer, my dear one? I asked myself to her. What happened all those years ago that suddenly made the best thing in the world become the most wicked? 

Finally looking back at me, you pretend that you were still happy. A sudden feel of regret went through me as I took a final note on your sadness. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you sad. I thought. Sighing, I gazed up right as a drop fell onto my face.

"I can't stay here any longer." You say as you rush out of the secret area. 

I follow close behind.
