Chapter 6

Transparent

"You called?"

Sunggyu's gaze flickered up to a tree branch near his window. He had waited for no longer than three minutes for the man to show up but at that moment, three minutes was a lifetime. His eyes had been probing the streets and ground cover the whole time. He had just about given up when he couldn't spot any movement for the longest time. The Transparent examined the tree thoroughly for the mysterious voice but to no avail.

"So you finally got sick of being treated like garbage?" The voice came again, closer than before. Sunggyu guessed it was Woohyun talking but he didn't know his voice well enough to prove it. He decided it would be best to stay alert until the man revealed himself. There was a long silence, Sunggyu strained to hear any crunching of leaves on the ground instead of relying on his vision. It was hard to make out anything other than streetlights.

"Whoa. What happened to your hair?" Woohyun finally appeared, resting his arms on the windowsill, staring up at the Transparent's bright red hair that reflected the moonlight. Sunggyu stared dully at the man as his eyes adjusted to the darkness, noticing the smug smile plastered onto the man's face.

"You see my swollen eye and bruised cheek but decided to comment on my hair?" He asked, dumbfounded. Woohyun shrugged his shoulders and tilted his head to one side.

"I'm used to it. Transparents look like that all the time. I've never seen red hair before, though." He said, laughing quietly at the Transparent's expression. "So, you ready to go?" Sunggyu reacted quickly, remembering the situation. He just wanted to be far away from Mr. Lee already. Woohyun couldn't help but smile as the bruised up man climbed out of the window with some trouble. The rebel led Sunggyu away from the property and onto the open street, where the streetlight was able illuminate just how broken the man was. Woohyun whistled, looking the other up and down.

"Took quite the beating, huh." He commented. The Transparent sighed, looking down at himself. He really did look terrible. His hair was not nearly long enough to cover his swollen eye and his injured arm fell limp at his side with his other arm supporting it. The first two buttons of his dress shirt were ripped off, exposing his collarbone and a bit of his chest. His cracked lip had hardened blood on it and his mouth tasted like iron. To say the least, Sunggyu was an absolute mess.

"We need to go. I'll take you to the base for tonight and then we'll go to HQ in the morning." Woohyun said, eyeing a single light on in one of the rooms of the Lee's mansion. Sunggyu followed his gaze and his heartbeat quickened when he realized that it was Mr. Lee's room. Nodding, the Transparent silently trailed behind the mysterious man until they arrived at a bright suburban part of the city. The Transparent almost wondered if they were just stopping to take rest – they had been walking for nearly an hour already – but the rebel walked right up to the front door like he owned the place.

"W-wait, this is the Unholy base?" Sunggyu asked, bewildered. Woohyun turned around and looked at him like it was obvious.

"Uh-huh." He said before continuing to unlock the door with keys that had magically appeared in his hand. The Transparent slowly walked into the building after Woohyun opened the door. What he saw on the inside didn't look like an Unholy living space. In fact, it could even rival Sunggyu's past master's mansion.

He walked in further to the brightly lit room, observing the interior and the residents in it. The walls were painted a dark blue with beautifully contrasting orange furniture placed around the living room. Hanging from a dip in the ceiling was a gigantic old-fashioned clock with artistic golden vines decorating the rim. It definitely didn't look like a hide out for Unholies. Sunggyu shifted his gaze downward to the other people in the room. Some looked as beat up as he was and some were dressed similarly to Woohyun. The rebel had been telling the truth about the Unholies freeing the Transparents. Each of the rescued Transparents seemed to stick to a single Unholy member – probably their savior. As Sunggyu followed Woohyun into a secondary living room, he realized that he was doing the same. His rebel came to a halt, pulling him to stand closer to him.

"Hey everybody, I want you to meet…wait, what's you name?" Woohyun whispered the last part into Sunggyu's ear, making a shiver run down his spine. Instead of just telling Woohyun his name, he decided he might as well introduce himself on his own.

"Hello, I am Sunggyu." He bowed to the crowd of people in the room. The residents greeted him back and some even came to pat him on the back – lightly, of course. Woohyun took his good hand and walked him to each room, introducing him to everyone in the house.

"So, Sunggyu, what shall be your last name?" Woohyun asked after they had sat down on an empty couch. Sunggyu shook his head a little.

"Transparents don't have last names." He stated. Woohyun smiled and took his military cap off, placing it on a nearby table, ruffling his hair back into place as he did so. Sunggyu could finally see the man's eyes clearly. They were an ash blue and were absolutely captivating. He had never seen blue eyes before, as most of the people in Ahdah had plain brown eyes.

"I know. But we need last names to identify which Transparent is which. I know at least four or five other people named Sunggyu at HQ. So, what do you want it to be?" Woohyun asked. "Oh, should you be a Nam like me?" He smiled, eyes forming crescent moons.

"Uh… I don't know about tha-"

"Lee, Yoon, Sung, Jo, and Kwon are all taken by other Transparents named Sunggyu, so why not be a Nam?" Woohyun cut him off, raising his eyebrows. The Transparent briefly thought of his options before answering.

"I'll be Kim then." He decided. The rebel gave him a cute pout and then replaced it with a charming smile.

"Well then, Kim Sunggyu, shall we take care of that hideous bruise?"

~~~~~~~
Sunggyu woke up in an unfamiliar place. He sat up, realizing that the throbbing of his arm was no longer there. In fact, his whole body felt like it was never abused at all. He looked around the room and quickly registered that he was not alone on the large bed he was sitting on. Woohyun stirred awake as Sunggyu scooted farther to the edge – away from him.
"Hey, you're up early." He said, his voice a little groggy. The Transparent nodded, trying to remember what happened last night and how he ended up sharing a bed with Woohyun. The rebel sat up, allowing the covers to slide off his torso. Sunggyu got a pretty good look at Woohyun's abs before averting his eyes.
"You fainted last night when I popped your shoulder back into place. One of the Transparents who said they knew you helped put medicine on your wounds while you were out." Woohyun explained, rubbing his eyes calmly. He must have seen the panic on Sunggyu's face. The said man let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. Woohyun got out of bed and Sunggyu followed suit.
"Take a shower and change into these. We're heading back to HQ today." Woohyun directed, tossing the Transparent clothes identical to his own. Sunggyu did what he was told and walked into the bathroom that connected to the room. Locking the door, Sunggyu began to strip of his torn butler outfit. He checked his whole body for purple patches but found none. Even his eye had cleared up during the night. The warm water hit his skin in the right way and he physically relaxed.
He had so much on his mind. Who was it that helped him last night? Figuring that he would find out after his shower, he moved on to a different question. What would Mrs. Lee feel when she opened his old room and found no sign of him other than an open window? How were they keeping up without a Transparent? Was Mr. Lee angry he had escaped? What would they tell Howon?
Sunggyu let out a sob when he thought about Mrs. Lee and Howon. He didn't spend much time with them but he knew they were truly good people. They made him happy. They made him feel wanted. He missed them even if he had been away for a few hours. Sunggyu wanted to leave Woohyun and run back to the Lees but he knew he couldn't. Life would be totally different if he returned. Another sob echoed throughout the shower. Soon, Sunggyu found his tears mixing with the warm water rushing down his face. The cut on his lip stung as it reopened but Sunggyu couldn't feel it. Its pain was nothing compared to the overwhelming pain in his heart.
He turned off the water and dried himself off with a towel he found on a rack bolted to the wall. He got dressed in the new clothes Woohyun had thrown to him. They were all dark grey and skintight. The sleeves were a bit too long for Sunggyu's arms so he rolled them up to elbow length. He tossed his old clothes into the wastebasket as he exited the bathroom. With the last memory of the Lees gone, the Transparent took a step forward, abandoning his past life with his discarded suit. With Woohyun, he would be able to start fresh. Maybe becoming an Unholy wouldn't be so bad after all.
Chapter 22: Wow, that was a severe twist. I had a suspicion when Mrs. Nam told Woohyun her story, but didn't think I'd be right lol. Dang, that was sad and beautiful at the same time. I loved it~
Chapter 22: At first I'm going to like 'Where is Howon??' and yeah finally he's back :D
I'm crying so much when Howon saying goodbye to Sunggyu. It really hurts ㅠㅠ
I'm sorry. I think I just into HoGyu ㅠㅠ
I don't expect Woohyun to be Sunggyu's brother actually. The conversation in the walkie talkie is really obvious but still... ㅠㅠ
Yeah it's kind of sad ending. Too bad WooGyu can't be together.....
Or maybe Sunggyu is the young Holy's destiny? *giggling*
Sorry I'm being biased again ㅠㅠ
I love your story tbh :)
There isn't a lot action fanfics about Infinite I think...?
Chapter 23: soooooooo this story started off really good and then just careened to the weirdest and most abrupt ending. i was looking forward to the ending too, but it felt a bit hasty :(. ruined it for me.
and i don't mean the happy ending vs. sad ending. the pacing of the was too harried.
