Part One

 

Yoona sipped her long island iced tea after checking her watch again. She looked around the low-lit bar for the fifth time in the last fifteen minutes. 

 

Whoever it was in their group of friends that decided to move hang out bars owes her a drink. She doesn't know anyone here. Unlike their old bar where she knew everyone, this waiting is getting a little boring. 

 

She'll give them ten more minutes.. if none of her friends show up, she's leaving. Maybe it was stupid to surprise them, not confirming if they're even meeting tonight. But it's a Thursday and Thursdays, they take a break from their busy lives and hang out together telling each other about their days.

 

Blowing air from her cheeks, she grabbed her cellphone. Maybe she should just have a good time tonight. After all, she has to make sure her little roster of men are still available for booty calls.

 

"Who to call.. who to call.." she muttered to herself.

 

She scrolled through the list of men in her phonebook. Too needy... Takes a long time for one round.. Doesn't last for more than one round... Insatiable.. Lives too far away...

 

She looked upwards and rolled her eyes. Two months away. And no time for decent, late night fun. She groaned. Yoona needs to get laid good and hard tonight.

 

Where are her friends anyway? 

 

"Hey, Song. Easy night huh? I'll have my usual." A man slid to the bar seat next to her.

 

She eyed him for a second. "Well, there must be a God up there." She thought to herself.

 

Yoona bit her lips as she looked at the man again. His hair was slicked back, he was wearing a black dress shirt, two top butttons were off. And there's a tattoo peaking at his neck. 

 

"Song-ssi, can you top up my drink?" Yoona asked, turning her chair so she's now facing the man who just arrived. 

 

The bartender nodded and winked at her before taking care of their drinks. What a cute kid, Yoona thought.

 

She her charm and flipped her hair ever so subtly. "Hi."

 

"Hey," He had an easy smile as he nodded at her. 

 

"I heard this place had fine drinks.. didn't know it also had fine men." Yup, Yoona didn't mind making the first move to guys. 

 

He chuckled and then raised an eyebrow. "Are you-- are you hitting on me?"

 

She shrugged nonchalantly, thanking Song for her new refill. "Do you like... s and on the beach?" His eyebrow raised even higher, mouth agape. "The drinks.. i mean. I only tried their long island iced tea."

 

The man shook his head with a smile. "It's a cool bar. Not well-lit. Well not until you came here. You light up the whole place."

 

Yoona laughed. "Hmm, not sure I'm going to go back here though. I came here for a drink but I got so distracted." She said this in a low, flirty voice, not breaking eye contact.

 

He has a grin in his face, an expression Yoona knew well. He was into her too. Hook and bait. 

 

"I'm surprised Song hasn't kicked you out yet. You make other women look bad in comparison."

 

Yoona closed her eyes and cringed. "Oh no, that was bad. Too cheesy."

 

He chuckled. "Was it? Sorry, you caught me off guard. I'm usually the one doing the approaching and I'd have lots of time to come up with lines."

 

"Well, I hope I made a good impression on you. Name's Rahee." Yoona offered her hand.

 

"Hi Rahee, it's very nice to meet you. I'm Jiyong." Their handshake was brief but Yoona made sure to squeeze his hands a little extra at the end. " So what brought you to Satellite? I'm pretty sure I haven't seen you here before."

 

Right. Her friends. Well, it's been over ten minutes. They're not coming. "Just checking it out.  You must go here a lot to be so informal with the bartender?"

 

"Yeah, it's near my workplace. It's also a place to meet friends... Or gorgeous ladies like you. This place reminds me of a bar back home I used to go to. I just moved here three months ago. You too?"

 

Great. She's glad they understand each other. It's clear he's also into the casual lifestyle. "Nah, I'm a city girl through and through. I just got back in town from a lengthy business trip."

 

"Ooh, what kind of business?"

 

"Marketing.. a bunch of boring products.." The lie slid out of her tongue smoothly. "But you, Jiyong-ssi, aside from being y, what do you do for a living?"

 

He grinned, proving Yoona's point that this man is y as hell. "Furniture design." 

 

"Wow, an artist." 

 

Jiyong shrugged, drinking half of his whiskey on ice. "It's nothing exciting."

 

Yeah, yeah. Let's get to the fun part. "You know, that's funny, I was just thinking of replacing my one of my furnitures," she put a hand over his. "In the bedroom."

 

He looked at her hand and at her. "Yeah?"

 

"Uh huh. My bed is not that sturdy.. I need something hard.. and durable.. one that doesn't break easily." Yoona blushed when he looked like he wanted to laugh aloud. "You heard that line before huh?"

 

"A few times. But I like it coming from you.." He cleared his throat. "I can help with that."

 

"Awesome. You want to see my bed right now? Make some measurements.. See how unstable it is."

 

The two looked at each other, clearly sensing the built up between them in such a short time. Now this is the welcome party I need.  "Lead the way, Rahee-ssi."

 

"Gladly." Yoona grabbed her bag and as they quickly finish their drink...

 

"HEYYYY~ MY BEST GIRL'S BACK!" They heard the roaring voice of Choi Seunghyun. 

 

"Oh my god, Yoona!!" Taeyeon screamed.

 

"Yoona?" Jiyong asked ,confused.

 

Well . "Oppa, hmpph." Yoona turned around just to be bear hugged by Seunghyun and then saw Taeyeon and Dara greeting Jiyong as well. That furrowed her brows.

 

"Donghae's here too! He's parking his car." TOP informed her.

 

"Yoong~ Did you have a hard time finding Satellite?" Taeyeon asked as she gave her a kiss on the cheek.

 

Dara noticed the empty glasses in front of the two. "Oh you two met already? Ji, this is Yoona, the friend we're talking about."

 

"Ahh, the one who's touring as an influencer and a radio DJ?" Jiyong looked at her with a raised brow, catching her on her lies.

 

She just shrugged. "That's still marketing, you know?"

 

"Let's go grab a table!"

While Yoona's night of bed testing was ruined, it was fun hanging out with her friends again. It's been lonely knowing they're having fun together without her while on tour but it felt like they're back on track immediately. Their group of friends consists of TOP and Yoona (bestfriends since college), Taeyeon, Dara and Donghae (have been a couple since college) and now apparently, Jiyong.

 

Seunghyun had mentioned someone named GD who was TOP's new friend and had arranged new furnitures to be sent to him. What he didn't say was GD is like a nickname of Jiyong. After Taeyeon broke up with Baekhyun, their previous bar's bartender, they needed to find a new bar to hang out in and Jiyong suggested Satellite.

 

"The barkeep's cute here too but please don't sleep with him." Yoona kid Taeyeon who gave her the stink eye.

 

"Nope. I'm hunting elsewhere, I promise."

 

They had three rounds of beer all around with Yoona sharing stories about her media tour. 

 

"Yoona's the DJ of The Single's Manual. You heard of it, right?" Donghae asked Jiyong.

 

"DJ Miracle?"

 

TOP laughed. "Yeah, she used that name to keep anonymity but she gained popularity enough and when people saw her pretty little face, ads started coming and people actually buy her recommendations."

 

"Her instagram as more than 500K followers." Dara boasted her friend's achievement.

 

"Stop. It's nothing."

 

"That's a whole lot of something, Yoona-ssi." Jiyong raised his glass to her.

 

"You're one to talk. This bastard's world-renowned now, aren't ya? Some bigshot in Europe is buying his designs. Don't raise up your price on me, okay?"

 

It was her turn to raise a brow. A humble bastard, huh? "Wow, Jiyong-ssi. That's a whole lot of something too."

 

"Damn right, Yoong. His designs are one of a kind. Totally worth the price."

"You sure you don't want to ride with us?"

 

"Please. I'm not even drunk." Yoona promised. "I brought my car. The valet's getting it."

 

"Okay, take care, Yoong." Dara and Donghae gave her a hug as they walked away. TOP and Taeyeon shared a  cab as they live in the same area and had already gone first. 

 

Which left Yoona and Jiyong standing as they waited for their cars.

 

"So.."

 

"I don't my friends' friends." She said bluntly.

 

"Wow." Jiyong laughed, surprised at her words. "Okay?"

 

"It's a whole mess that I don't want to deal with. Especially when we're going to be hanging out a lot." 

 

"I-- well, I agree. Don't where you eat." 

 

"Exactly." Yoona's car arrived and the valet tossed her car keys to her. "What a damn shame too. Had a feeling we would have a hella fun night."

 

Jiyong had to silently agree. He also looked forward to breaking her back bed.

 

"See you around, Jiyong-ssi." She winked at him as she drove away.

 

Jiyong sighed as he shook his head. Is it too late to unjoin this group of friends?

 

Yoona quickly dialed a number as she drove away from Satellite. The night is always young for her. "Hey, y. I'm back in town. Want some late night company?"

 

Her night with Jiyong might not have happened but that doesn't mean she can't get what she wants from someone else.

The last two months was fun meeting dear listeners all over Asia. I didn't know many of you listen to The Single's Manual. While I loved  touring, as that Dorothy once said, There's no place Iike home.
