Sehun was sitting down quietly, twiddling his thumbs around while staring at Luhan’s peaceful sleeping figure. The meeting had just started when he got a call from Chanyeol that something wrong had happened to Luhan so he excused himself. By then, the ambulance had already arrived and Min Jung had latched herself onto him. That was the first time he had ever seen her sob uncontrollably like that. She was speaking so fast he didn’t understand much. The only thing that was clear was Luhan. He stood up quickly from his seat as Luhan's father, the man he’s only seen twice walked in. They bowed to each other and Sehun watched the man look disappointedly at the sleeping form before heaving a sigh.

"Failure..."

Sehun rushed to Luhan's defense. "He wasn't a failure. There is clearly an outside force causing harm to him. He hid the pain...too well." Luhan's father crossed his arms, and stared hard at Luhan's small body. He let out another sigh before walking out. The designer just stared in horror of how Luhan's own father had acted towards him. Had he not been such a public figure he would’ve punched him in the gut.

"He left...huh?" Sehun quickly walked over to Luhan's side and kneeled in front of him as he slowly sat up. "He doesn't care much for weak people..."

Sehun held the urge to roll his eyes. "Why didn't you tell me you were in pain? What happened to your back? All those bruises and scars and you say it's nothing?!"

Luhan flinched at the rising and angered tone. He really didn't know why his boss was so concerned. But he did pass out in his office. Or at least that was where he last remembered anything. "I know. But you don't need to concern yourself with me. I don't want it. Your pity."

Sehun scoffed, grabbing hold of Luhan's wrist. He wasn't sure why he was so worried either. But again, it had to do with him having a weird bubbly feeling around Luhan and if the bubbly feeling felt good, then he wanted whatever made it happen stay. "Not only am I your boss, aren't I your friend as well? I mean we barely know each other but I've shared with you my biggest secret. That in itself is the only thing I would never share with an outsider."

Luhan felt his heart lighten, a strange feeling that he didn't quite understand. A knock on the door turned both heads. Kyungsoo, Baekhyun, Jongin and Chanyeol walked in with smiles, and gifts. "He's awake!" squealed Baekhyun running over to Luhan's side, pushing Sehun out of the way. "If Min Jung hadn't gone off to get Channie, I don't know what would've happened to you!" Luhan's eyes trailed to the tallest person present.

"Thank you Chanyeol-ssi..."

"It's no problem. And just be comfortable," he said between delighted giggles.

"Oh...where's Min Jung? School?" asked Luhan looking around. It looked bright outside and he just assumed it was already the next day. Sehun nodded

"You've been sleeping for two days though. Aren't you hungry?" asked Kyungsoo. Luhan didn't notice until then but his stomach felt so empty.

"Wait. I've been sleeping for two days?!" Everyone nodded and he just stared at them in disbelief. How was he going to explain to his father now? What was he going to do?

"Wow you have a lot of visitors today," said a nurse. She walked in with a clipboard followed by another nurse. They came to check up on his condition and to give him his

Medication. Luhan stared at the white pills and cringed at the thought of having to eat them. He felt his nervousness come up and his fingers began twirling around another in a nervous dance. A habit that he had picked up over the years. Everyone watched as the nurse checked his temperature and his pulse before listening to his heart. Once those procedures were done, she held out the pills to him. His slender fingers slowly accepted the pills and for a while he just stared at them, totally forgetting that there were people there.

"Luhan? What're you doing? Eat them..."

He looked up at Sehun and gulped. "Can I get a glass of water with it?" The nurse chuckled before getting up and walking away with her assistant.

"Luhan...could you...possibly not like eating medicine?" asked Jongin. He had hit spot on and Luhan felt his cheeks begin flaring up. Everyone in the room noticed him blushing before he averted his gaze to the wall and mumbling a no. Sehun wanted that chance to pinch those adorable cheeks but that may cause an uproar with his friends.

"It's okay. There's nothing wrong with not liking it," said Kyungsoo, lightly punching Jongin in the arm for asking such a stupid question. The bedridden male only slightly nodded, still hesitantly looking at the pills caged in his palm. The nurse walked in, a plastic cup in her hands. She handed to him with a wink before making her way out again. Now he had to eat the pills. Sehun noticed and chuckled a bit. Everyone watched carefully as he took his unwrapped hand and took the two white pills lying sadly in the small palm. Sehun held them out in front of Luhan's dry lips.

"Open your mouth and say 'aw'," he said, making the motion with his own mouth. Luhan felt incredibly embarrassed because he was a freaking twenty-six year old acting like he was four. Though his worries were pointless because the others standing behind Sehun were silently punching and hugging each other out of his aegyo. They liked it even though he was older than all of them. The designer moved his hand again and without thinking, Luhan did as told opening his mouth as a tiny "ah" came out. Sehun put the pill in the middle of his tongue with two fingers careful not to touch anything. Luhan had his eyes shut right and when Sehun told him to drink water , he quickly gushed it all down, not even feeling the pill in his mouth. He opened and closed his mouth with a motion as if he was tasting the water.

"Lu, say ahhhhhh!" The little boy, six years old shook his head, his two chubby hands covering his mouth. Tears formed at the corner of his wide eyes, fearing most the little pill in his mother's hand. He couldn't see her face. It was blurry from the tears but he could see the pill. "I promise you won't even know. Just keep saying 'ahh' and then drink the water. Trust me okay? Your mama would never lie would she?"

He shook his head and reluctantly with a little tug from his mom, pulled his hands away. His lips, red from the pressure opened slowly and a quiet high-pitched 'ah' came out. His mother swiftly put the pill in and told him to take a drink. He was scared but when he felt something fall through his throat, he knew it was over. He didn't taste it nor did he feel its hard sheath touch his sensitive taste buds. His mother smiled, a small wrinkle at the corner of each eye. Her silky black hair tucked neatly behind each ear. "See, that wasn't so bad was it?"

He shook his tiny head no before hugging his mother. His tears were gone now but before he pulled away to look at his mother’s beautiful eyes again, she pulled away.

"Luhan?"

He shivered, brought out of his reverie at the slight tug on his shoulder. The plastic cup still in his hand, except it was crushed inside his palm. He looked blankly at Sehun and everyone else who had crowded around the bed, panic written across their faces.

"Is something wrong?" He asked innocently. He watched as the other five gave each other secret messages through their looks.

"Nope. There isn't. Do you want to rest?" asked Kyungsoo. Luhan wanted to say yes but his empty stomach was dying for attention.

“Um...I’m a little hungry. Or...am I supposed to sleep again?” His innocently asked question caused the others to bite back their little “fanboying” moments.

“Jongin and I can go back to my house and cook you something. We’ll be right back so don’t fall asleep on us okay?” said the owl-eyed male, giving his heart-shaped smile. Jongin felt his heart thump faster and Luhan could tell from the look Jongin was giving off that there was more to childhood friends. They left and Baekhyun and Chanyeol sat in there while Sehun silently prayed in his head that they would leave. Which, they didn’t. It tortured the designer and they knew.

“So Luhan, you ever been in a relationship before?” asked Baekhyun, eyes locked on his cellphone screen. The male in question thought about it and wondered if he should just go right out and say it. He held it in though.

“Well...I’ve been in a couple of relationships...but I wouldn’t necessarily call them normal.” That caused Baekhyun to look up at him immediately, a hint of mischievousness growing in his eyes.

“What do you mean by that?” His eyebrows danced in rhythm while he watched Luhan’s face become flustered.

“I guess...you could sort of call them...negative relationships?” All playfulness disappeared from all three males listening. “Ah, but it’s nothing serious! Don’t mind me. Forget I said anything…”

Baekhyun and Chanyeol threw each other glances. Before he could interrogate Luhan any  further about his life, his phone rang. “Hello?” It was silent except for the little mechanic sounding voice on the other line, sounding somewhat frantic. Suddenly, he stood up. “Holy crap! I totally forgot! Tell them that I’m sorry and I’ll be there soon!” He hung up and looked apologetically at Luhan. “I’m sorry Luhannie! But I was supposed to be with Tao right now because he’s going to be at a fashion show! Yeollie! We gotta go!”

As if on manual, he stood up and nodded. They both said their goodbyes before leaving just as quickly. Luhan was glad that at least that phone call had saved him. He didn’t know why but the grogginess from just waking up made him feel less secured. Sehun was also feeling quite relieved knowing that everyone was gone. His attention however, feel back on Luhan and his previous statement. “How did you get those bruises?”

“I told you I was in an accident…”

“Did you go to the hospital?”

“No…”

Sehun sighed, raking his hand through his chestnut brown strands of hair. He had to hold back the urge to rip it all out in frustration. Though he did understand Luhan, keeping to himself his personal things, he still wanted and needed to know. “Fine. You don’t have to tell me. But if you ever show up at work again and this happens, again, then you are going to spill everything. This isn’t me asking you to do it either. This is me saying that you will.”

Luhan nodded, shrinking back into himself from Sehun’s tone. Though he still saw the warmth in his eyes, his voice was deathly cold. So cold, he felt ill near it. “Understood…” Quite frankly, he was still unsure why Sehun cared so much. They barely knew each other for a week and here he was, beside his hospital bed, worrying so much about what happened to him. “Sehun can I ask you a question?” Once the nod came towards him, he continued. “If Min Jung is your daughter...where...where is her mother?”

Silence ensued and Luhan felt he had asked a question categorized as taboo.  He also expected Sehun to give him a glare of any kind before leaving. But he did the opposite. His usual stoic and unchanging personality melted and his gaze became soft. His shoulders slumped just a bit as he looked nowhere in particular. “Min Jung’s mother is probably somewhere in this country, trying to make profits for her own good. I mean, when she dumped Min Jung to me, she was literally in rags. It’s complicated.”

“No, no. It’s okay...you don’t need to tell me if you feel uncomfortable,” he said, waving his hands in front of him. The designer looked up into Luhan’s sweet eyes that were full of concern. The bubbly feeling came back, healing the pain that had shoved it’s way back into his chest.

“It’s okay...I’ll tell you. I want to anyway. I feel I should before I explode,” he said while letting out a slight chuckle. Luhan nodded and held his breath. He felt all of a sudden so nervous.

“She used to be my girlfriend you know. We went out for four years starting on our last day of middle school and one day she cheated on me. With another friend. He wasn’t a close friend but still, it was someone I thought I knew enough to trust. We broke up and after six years, she came back to me…”

Sehun turned his head back up, wondering who in the world would be knocking at his door in the middle of the night. He had just returned from an exhausting day at work, getting ready for his new series of designs to be released. He had just taken his coat off, still wearing his white flannel and his gray tie still hanging loosely around his neck. He walked carefully to the door. When he opened it, a woman, skinny and pale wearing what seemed to be clothes and a little girl hiding behind her.

            “W-who’re you?” he asked.

“Sehun-ah…” He froze when he heard her speak. That voice that he knew so clearly. That voice he had missed so dearly all those years. That voice he was never able to forget.

“Choon Hee? What’re you doing here?”

“I found out from a source...that you lived here…” Sehun only stared in horror at what the woman who used to have the brightest pearly smile and the most radiant perfect skin now dressed in tatters and covered in mud. The woman he had loved so many years ago.

            “What do you want?”

“My daughter...take her please.” There was no emotion in her voice, as if her heart had run cold and she no longer wanted the upbringing of her sudden misfortune. “She’ll do better here…” He glanced down at the girl and upon meeting his eyes, she hid again behind her mother’s ripped dress.

“Why should I? She’s the one that he fathered right? Give her to him!” He was ready to close the door but before he could she stopped him.

“If you don’t want her, then I’ll just dispose of her. It’s not like anyone would miss her!” Tears had finally made their way down her cheeks and she harshly removed the little girl’s tight grip on her dress. “Let me go you bastard child! Child of a !” The little girl began to cry and pleaded her mother to not abandon her. “Let me go! It’s all your fault!”

“Mommy! Please! Don’t leave me alone!” Her tears fell down each cheek. Sehun watched in horror as his ex-girlfriend dragged the little body off to the side. Alarmed, he quickly ran after, ripping Choon Hee away.

“Just...leave. Leave! I don’t ever want to see you surface back into my life. If you leave your daughter with me, she will no longer be your daughter but mine!” he shouted. A smirk played onto her face and Sehun immediately knew that he fell into her hands. A trick to get rid of junk she didn’t want.

“As payment, lend me some money and I’ll never come back. Or else I will call the authorities and I know that bastard child will do anything for me.” Sehun held back the urge to fight and dug out his wallet in his back pocket. He quickly wrote her a check, signing to her twenty-thousand dollars. He threw the check in her money hungry eyes as she quickly grabbed it in mid-air.

“Take it and leave. Never come back or it’ll be me calling the authorities!” She ran off and Sehun hoped that was the last he ever saw her. The pain he had felt inside seemed to increase as the little girl sobbing on her knees looked at her mother’s retreating back. The night seemed to be even darker and Sehun felt his own tears falling. He took out his cellphone and quickly dialed the first group of people that came to mind.

            “Hyungs…”

Luhan stared in anger. He had never felt so angered by someone he never met nor knew before in his life. Learning how Min Jung came into Sehun’s care made his blood boil. “Sehun…she never came back right? I hope she doesn’t come around the company when I’m there because I don’t know if I can hold back my tongue.” Luhan’s raging and angered personality amused Sehun. Not that he found joy in his anger but it was refreshing to see that the man with such innocence did have other thoughts and feelings than being bashful.

“She never did and if you do ever fly off the handle, just make sure you do something that won’t end you in jail. Or just don’t get caught,” he said bursting in laughter. Luhan joined as well and as their voices melded into a chord of happiness, someone knocked the door. They turned their heads, tears forming at the corners of their eyes and hands clutching their sides.

“What’s so funny guys? I want to laugh too!” said Jongin walking in. Kyungsoo followed after, holding a white paper bag. Jongin set up a tray over Luhan’s lap and sat down while Kyungsoo went about his business setting up the quick noodle soup he had made.

“Its smells so good!” said Luhan, his voice still ticklish with laughter.

“You’re probably just hungry. But it shouldn’t really taste like much,” said Kyungsoo, a bit shy about his own cooking. Luhan thanked him before taking the oddly shaped spoon and dipping it into the noodle soup. It looked oddly like the one Minseok had made for him when they first met. The taste was plain but delicious. He couldn’t help but eat it all without a word. He once in a while caught the three watching him. They looked like his parents, proud that their son was eating.

“It’s really good Kyungsoo. Though it’s just a plain soup, it still tastes good.” Kyungsoo laughed at the oxymoronic statement. Luhan however, burned his tongue halfway through the soup and had to keep reminding himself to slow down or else he’ll just end up vomiting everything back up.

“What were you guys laughing about earlier anyways?” asked Kyungsoo.

“About how Min Jung came to me,” said Sehun, his eyes stuck on Luhan eating. What he didn’t see however were the sudden face change of both Kyungsoo and Jongin. Their eyes narrowed and their lips no longer smiling. Luhan noticed and the spoonful of soup that was making way to his mouth slowed down before his eyes locked. Sehun turned around and let out a weak smile. “We weren’t laughing at Min Jung…”

“I know you guys weren’t, but what irks my nerves is that...that sorry excuse of a woman. Just the mention of her drives me nearly insane,” said Kyungsoo, his voice becoming dangerously low. Jongin brought up an arm around his hunched shoulders.

“I understand completely Hyung. But lately I feel...as if I need to let off some steam you know. To just talk about the things bothering me. I know telling Luhan is stupid but I just...needed to let it out.” Kyungsoo could sense the rare tone in the maknae in front of him. Not once did he move from his seat nor did he turn to look back. He was right beside Luhan, watching over him and making sure he was alright. At that moment, he sounded vulnerable. One blow from anyone and it would be the end of Sehun. But his mind changed the moment Luhan spoke.

“I...I don’t mind you letting off steam towards me. I’ll help anyway I can.” His smile brought chills to Sehun’s skin, hidden underneath the casual clothing he had on. Kyungsoo and Jongin stared at each other with a knowing look as he went back to eating the soup. The Chinese male was completely oblivious to the gears he had just set in motion. Maybe if the soup he was eating wasn’t so filling, he’d notice the look on Sehun’s face.

A lovestruck gaze.

“As of today, we will all be using the keycard system and because of that, everyone will have to go home earlier than usual. During that time, the system will be installed and your cards will be issued. When I say everyone, I mean everyone,” said Junmyeon, strutting around in the meeting room. As about a hundred high positioned employees listened to their president talk on and on about their new upgraded security systems, one person in particular was filled with impatience. Oh Sehun checked the time on his watch again for the fifth time that minute. Today was the day Luhan was going to be discharged from the hospital and he had promised to Luhan’s father that he would pick him up. Though it was over the phone, Sehun could tell he was surprised.

“Make sure to you all pick up the information packet on our new terms of agreements as well. Thats it for today. You’re all dismissed.” Sighs of relief broke out through the room and Kyungsoo glanced at the clock, his eyes widening. He quickly walked over to Sehun’s side, who was trying as quickly as he could without putting pressure on his palm to pack his papers.

“Sehun! Aren’t you going to go pick up Luhan?” He checked the time again and muttered swear words under his breath. “Just go. I’ll pick up the things you need for you. If you’re late to pick up Luhan and Min Jung, I’ll kill you.” Sehun muttered a thanks before rushing off without any of his papers. Right when he was going to pick them up, a hand swatted his own away.

“I’m sorry Kyungsoo-ssi. I’ll take those things for him.” the owl-eyed man glared at Su Hyun.

“Oh. That’s right. You’re also his secretary as well huh? I completely forgot. Make sure you get all the things he needs.” He scoffed and turned around to walk towards his friends already huddled together across the room. Baekhyun however didn’t have a pleasant look on his face.

“Why is that girl here?” he hissed.

“He’s her secretary,” said Kyungsoo sarcastically, rolling his eyes. Chanyeol gulped.

“That would be on my part. Sorry guys…” Kyungsoo was going to deny his responsibility to the act but he butted in. “I’ll take her back into my department so she doesn’t bother Sehunnie. Though I really don’t want her back either…”

Jongin looked up from his documents, interested in where the conversation was going. “Why?”

“She doesn’t do anything. You know how I’m always complaining about some of the people in my department always slacking and running around doing useless stuff, she’s one of them. I rarely see her in the office and she never finishes her work. That’s why I sent her off to be useful and worthy of the money she’s being paid.” Kyungsoo and Baekhyun returned the same sour look. They had watched how she chat for a bit with Junmyeon. Her eyes sometimes making it back to the group. Junmyeon excused himself with a phone call and she walked out, completely satisfied.

“I’m going to my office. I need to finish work.” They watched as Kyungsoo walked off. He still had to finish up his project and some other interns unfinished one. They had quit halfway through and he was left to pick up after that person. It was annoying but he had no choice if he wanted the company to keep their good name. He quickly walked to the elevator. There was a couple other people waiting, but it seemed to be taking too much time. He gave up and walked towards the stairs. He’ll just have to walk up the five flights of stairs. He began the treacherous climb to his office floor while mildly cursing under his breath, hoping that no one would hear. Just when he finally reached the next floor, he heard voices.

“But you promised to go with me if I let you see them…” He curiously looked up at the two people whispering quite loudly. Kyungsoo could only see their feet. A woman and a man. She had black pumps, shiny and lacquered. The man, dress shoes designed by Sehun.

“I know I promised but I won’t be able to be with you for a while. I’m still busy with the things I’m planning. So if you could just be patient.” The voice was oddly familiar and annoying. So instead of eavesdropping, he continued up the stairs, to his floor. He was really quite surprised to see Su Hyun and one of their security guards. In her hands, she still held onto Sehun’s folders and documents. Kyungsoo held out his hand for her to hand it over and she complied. They were flustered and from the odd look on Su Hyun’s face, he knew he had caught her at the wrong time.

“Make sure you get your picture taken for your ID cards.” He smirked deviously before opening the door and entering his floor. Now, he knew that she was definitely planning something and he was scared. Because in her palms, were men dancing to entertain and grab her attention. “This is why people are so stupid…” he said, sighing. His phone rang just as he was about to the close his office door behind him.

“Luhan? What’s up?”

“Um...is Sehun really coming? He doesn’t have to I can walk.”

Kyungsoo smiled. “He’s coming right now. Don’t worry and besides, he promised. Sehun doesn’t go back on his promises. Ever.”
