1:40. Coffee Shop. Meet Me There.

Intuition

Kyungsoo stood at the entry of his closet staring blankly at the row of clothing occupying the hangers. He had spent the last fifteen minutes prancing around his room occasionally collapsing to the floor with boredom only to be followed by pacing the single hall of his apartment. Usually this would be one of those moments that Suho would come and take Kyungsoo out in public to help rid of this social energy, but now he was alone and didn’t have a clue what he was supposed to do. He didn’t want to go out, he didn’t want to stay in, and he didn’t want to sleep. There was nothing he really wanted to do.

Kyungsoo stumbled over to his desk and thought about showering, but before the idea turned into a decision making opportunity, Kyungsoo noticed a little green calendar hidden behind the mounds of paper on his desk. It was stuck on the month of April. Kyungsoo shifted his weight and leaned over to look out his window. He could practically see the cool air swirling around outside and giggled a little to himself. He shifted his attention back to the flimsy calendar and picked it up. He turned the pages until the month read October and then set it back down.

With a defeated sigh, Kyungsoo allowed himself, to once again, collapse to the floor below his feet. He stretched out his arms to his sides and the rough carpet below him. He turned his head so he could watch his fingers as they passed over each strand of wool and let out a groan that sounded more like a dying whale than anything.

He forced a huff of air out of his lungs and shot up from the floor.

“I’m hungry,” he said to the blank wall in front of him. He turned to look at the bear that was seated comfortably on his bed. “Are you hungry? I’m hungry,” he said to the bear as he lifted it from the pillow and carried it with him into the kitchen.

As he waited for the microwaveable ramen to heat up in the microwave, Kyungsoo made his way over to the window and shoved back the curtains to let the sun brighten the room. He peered out of the clear glass and admired the scenery, aka the neighbors brick wall.

“Beautiful,” he said sarcastically laughing to himself.

He leaned forward and shoved his cheek against the window. The cold glass sent chills down his spine, but he didn’t budge. He could see a little white finch perched on a nearby cherry-blossom tree. Kyungsoo watched as it hopped from one branch to another trying to find a place to rest. He could hear the bird’s muffled chirps.

“chirp chirp chirp, chirp chirp chirp,” he mocked happily in a dull-monotone.

The loud beeping of the microwave brought Kyungsoo back to his senses and he marched his way over to the machine, but when he looked it wasn’t going off at all. He paused for a second and waited for the ringing again. Realizing it was his phone; Kyungsoo crawled to his room and fetched the device. The only two people who’d call him are his editor and Jongin, neither of which could rid of is boredom…well maybe Jongin could.

“Hello,” Kyungsoo’s voice was more enthusiastic than he intended.

“What’s your address,” the boy asked. Kyungsoo could tell it was Jongin by the smooth voice and calm nature.

“What,” Kyungsoo asked showing a little more shock than he meant to. “Why? First you said I never checked my email so I gave you my number, now you want my address too?”

“Don’t play hard to get, you know you enjoy my company,” Kyungsoo could hear the smile on Jongin’s face and couldn’t help but smile himself. “Now what’s your address?”

Again, Kyungsoo let out that dying whale moan.

After the conversation’s end, Kyungsoo hung up the phone still not entirely sure why Jongin wanted the address, but he dismissed the suspicion and decided he should shower incase Jongin decided to make a surprise visit.

When Kyungsoo heard the doorbell, he wasn’t the least bit surprised. He gave himself one more look-over in the bathroom and walked over to the door. He felt the sweat on his palms and wiped them on his pants. Why am I so nervous? He tried to slow his breathing in order to calm his heartbeats, but it didn’t help.

He stumbled over to the door, tripping over his own foot and almost falling face-first into the wall. After catching himself he let out a pathetic scoff and opened the door. The hall was empty, there was no one. He opened his lips to ask a question, but not knowing what to say, he closed them again. He looked around the hall back and forth; there was no one in sight and for some reason that made his heart sink to the bottom of his stomach. He turned to walk back into his apartment and couldn’t help but fill up with anger and self-pity. He took a step and felt a crunch below his shoe causing him to look down to find a folded up piece of paper. Assuming it was a couple of kids pulling pranks of the quiet guy down the hall, Kyungsoo crumpled it up in his hands and carried it inside with him slamming the door behind. Walking into the kitchen, Kyungsoo smelled the bowl of ramen in the microwave. He had forgotten all about it. He marched over to the little, plastic trash can to throw the paper away, but before he let go, he saw a word, a name rather and couldn’t fight back the smile on his face.

“Jongin that,” his words melted away and he forgot to finish the sentence.

He unfolded the paper and read it.

Kyungsoo looked up at the oven clock. It was already one thirty. He took the ramen out of the microwave and chucked it in the trash can before grabbing his keys (and the note) and scrambling out the door.
