Chen- Spending time with his dying girlfriend.

" You know, we should go out on a date." Chen mumbled, playing with Min Ri's hair. It had been a long time since the both of them had gone out on a date. Ever since Min Ri was diagnosed with terminal cancer, they had to keep her indoors as much as possible, to avoid her weak self from catching any viruses and making it worse. Chen had bought her spaghetti from her favourite resteraunt. Min Ri had already finished her meal and was just lying on Chen's lap, enjoying each others' presence.

Chen and Min Ri tried their best not to bring up the topic on the numbered days Min Ri had left. However, silent moments like this would cause the topic to recur in Chen's mind, reminding him of reality, the fact that soon, Minri would be gone and that'd he'd be all alone again. Chen tried shaking the thought out of his head and just focus on Minri. Afterall, they did not have much time left. I mean time as in, time. Before Minri goes, not before visiting hours are over. Chen would go agaisnt it just to be by her side if he had to.

" Sure, Jongdae. Anything for you. " Minri said after a long silence. A smile appeared on Chen's face, he tried to put on a bright one, but failed terribly. It just looked sad. Downright sad.

Just then, three knocks were heard, taking them by surprise. A nurse entered, "Ms Lee? Doctor Park would like to see you."

Nodding, Chen helped carry MinRi onto her wheelchair. Holding his breath, Chen reached the room. Time with Minri for the past few months had been excrutiating fast and Chen had yet to even prepare his vulnerable heart for what was going to happen. The atmosphere around the two of them was tense. Really tense, to an extent it became uncomfortable.

Anticipation was evident too, but they both knew that the only result they'd get would probably just be disappointment. The news all of them feared. But, they did not expect much, less their hopes crumble to bits. What would hurt most would be, if they have their hopes so high, but yet let everything just... fall to nothing. Chen's heart could not take it. I mean, who's could? Not mine, not yours. *Breathe* Chen told himself, what Minri needed was for him to be by her side and not panicking. He needed to stay rational at times like this and be Minri's strength.

Minri lifted her hand and knocked on the door. The silence was overwhelming. "Come in." The deep voice of the doctor came from inside. Chen helped push down the door handle, and then wheeling Minri in.

"Yes, doctor? You requested to see me? Is something the matter?" Minri asked, trying to keep her composure but she was freaking out on the inside. Chen, on the other hand,  made his way to the chair beside Minri, and sat down, really slowly.

" You can go out for the next few days, but please, if you're tired, rest." The doctor said. Before leaving, the doctor whispered to Chen, " She's got less than a month, go and spend the remaining time with her. I'm sorry that I couldn't save her, she's really strong and she's a kind girl. It's fortunate that she managed to survive past the expected time frame we predicted. But when it is time, let her go."

Chen felt a pang in his heart. He could hear a clock ticking at the back of his mind. *I've got not much time left.* Little did he know, Minri's sharp ears picked up what the doctor said. However, she had already been prepared since the very start and they all knew that she would go one day, it was just a matter of time. Chen, noticing Minri's gaze became empty, called her a few times before she snapped out of her daze. She flinched, startled by his voice.

"Babe, are you okay?" Chen asked, voice full of worry and concern. He squatted down to her height ((because she was on a wheelchair, don't forget)) and looked into her eyes. Minri simply smiled and shook her head. "I'm fine." Chen's heart felt nothing but pain, seeing the one he loved most, suffer. *Why couldn't it have been me instead?*

Chen brought her back to her room for her to rest. "We'll go out in the evening. Sleep."

While Minri was asleep, Chen had gone back home to get changed and also prepared some food and fruits for her, before returning back to the hospital. He was greeted by Minri who was already awake.

Taking his prepared food for her, he placed it on the table. When Minri opened the box, she was so touched by her boyfriend's effort. Even though the fruits were horribly cut, but she appreciated the effort and love put in. She softened even more upon seeing Chen's hand plastered. *Silly boy, must have cut himself while murdering the fruits.* Minri chuckled, earning Chen's attention.

Feeling shy, Chen rubbed the back of his neck, " I know it isn't really pretty but I tried."

Minri reached out, " It's okay. You injured yourself." She held his injured hand. Chen's eyes widened. *For a sick person, she's so observant.* "Ah, it's nothing!" He said.

Reality finally struck. Death was something that Minri really couldn't avoid and she owed Chen. Owed Chen the love he had showered her with.

"Jongdae-yah, can we just stay here. I don't really want to go out." Minri requested. Chen hesitated for a moment, but agreed anyway.

There was silence and it felt like it was going to drown the both of them.

"Jongdae, you know..." there was a pause, but she had caught Chen's attention. "You know.. I heard everything Mr Park said that day.." she let out a bitter laugh. "Can you promise me something?"

"I'll think about it? What is it anyway?" Chen asked.

"Promise me first, Jongdae."

"Okay."

Although Minri's eyes were shimmering with one emotion, pain, she still said it.

"When I go.." It hurt to even said such words. She knew Chen would not want to hear such words. She knew Chen did not want to hear such words of affirmation, words that will cause reality to hit him hard. Damn hard.

"When I go, please, Jongdae, find another girl to love. I'll give you my blessings from above and.." Minri choked back a heart-wrenching sob and continued. "I'll love you from above, just be happy and move on without me."

Chen refused to let Minri cry, so he wrapped his sturdy arms around her frail body. He had to muster almost 99% of his strength not to cry, but he did anway.

*Why must reality be so damn painful?*

Tears burned his eyes upon the thought of the loneliness he'd be in without Minri.

Why couldn't they just ask fate to allow them to be together? Or hoping that her illness would just disappear?

Because we all know that fate isn't that nice.

The only thing the both of them could do was to be in each others' comforting embrace and accept things as it is, and what the future holds.

Over the days, Minri became weaker and her breathing became unstable. The ticking clock at the back of Chen's mind seemed to get louder. He knew, they knew, that she had only a couple of hours left.

"Morning babe." he said, trying his best not to break down. Minri now had a drip attached to her arm. She could not even sit up. Well, she was still sleeping though. It was already 3pm in the afternoon.

Chen sighed. *It's okay. She's tired.*

But the silence in the room was overwhelming and also suffocating.

Minri's eyes opened, widening at the sight of Chen.

"Jong...........Dae." She took almost half her life of energy just to even say his name.

"I .. love.. you.."

With that, Jongdae came crashing by her hospital bed side. The clock at the back of his mind had stopped ticking.

Was he screaming? Because he couldn't hear anything. Nurses and doctors came rushing in yet time seemed to have stopped there an then.

He had just lost his love and loneliness he would be in once again.

No more reason to live, to breathe, no more happiness.

Nothing.
