chapter two

Demons

"I've seen the angel statue." I whisper out of fear. Baekhyun seems a little taken back. He stares at me like he's waiting for the flirty giggle or the "I'm joking" after saying that. "I've seen the angel statue." I repeat.

He steps away with his hands up. "Wait, what? Where?"

"I don't know if it's supposed to be in the house or if it was always there or not. When I first walked into the house, it was empty...there was absolutely nothing in the living room. I just saw it before you rang the doorbell. It was in the corner of the living room next to the TV." I say. "And it looks awfully real and detailed. It looks like a person has been dipped in white paint." I describe it the best I can. It was only a five second glimpse, it definitely caught me off guard.

"Are you sure it's the statue I'm talking about? Maybe your parents have one?"

I shook my head no. "No, they don't. I'm sure of it. They would've showed it to me by now and that thing's pretty hard to hide." I said.

"Can you...can you show me?" Baekhyun asks. I could tell he's scared.

I look around wondering where we've walked to. Baekhyun spent so much time talking and I spent so much time listening, I didn't even know where we were going. We wondered aimlessly around the neighborhood for a good half an hour.

"Yeah, if you can bring me back to my house." I looked around, it's foggy and the night's air is cold against my skin. I feel my hands rub against the goose bumps as I try to warm myself up.

Baekhyun takes off his varsity jacket and puts it around my shoulders. "It gets really cold here at night, be careful." He says before tugging on the strap of my bag. "Come with me, I think I know which way your house is."

The walk home was silent and awkward. We both didn't know what to talk about and the cold was really getting to us. I felt bad for Baekhyun,  it was barely twenty degrees outside and he was wearing a thin t shirt.

Back at my house, Baekhyun walked around with me. My mother and father were still outside trying to get rid of all the uncut grass on our lawn.

I walked into the living room and looked around. Everything was set up, the TV and all the furniture was in the right places. The angel statue was no longer there. "What!?" I looked around.

"What's wrong?" Baekhyun asked behind me.

"It's not here...I could've sworn it was right there." I pointed to the lamp in the corner.

"Maybe you were seeing things...that statue is so old. It's probably not even there anymore." Baekhyun said.

I shook my head and looked around. "No, I wasn't seeing things. Baekhyun I swear it was righ-" I silenced myself when I heard footsteps. Baekhyun's turned around and looked. There was someone coming, we heard the footsteps. "Hello?" Baekhyun walked a few steps ahead.

The floors creaked as I followed along. Baekhyun turned around and grabbed my hand. He pulled me closer to him and told me to stay right behind him.

We took small steps as he inched closer and closer to the door. We figured there wasn't anyone coming in, my parents were still outside. Was there someone in the house?

I screamed when something fell from above. A startled Baekhyun turned around to hug me. He covered my eyes and waited for me to stop shaking before looking at what fell. It was a doll, the hair was starting to fall off. A baby doll. That too, looked extremely realistic.

"What the ." Baekhyun muttered as he kicked it away. He turned back to me. "Are you okay?"

A nodded as he fixed my hair. "What the heck was that?!"

"I think it's some old stuff the Wu family left behind. Which is weird because the last time inspectors came they said the house was completely empty."

I looked up at where the doll came from. "Is there a shelf up there?" I asked.

Baekhyun dug into his pocket and took out his phone. He shined the light up there and moved around. I kept my eyes closed, I was scared.

I knew something was up there when Baekhyun held onto me tighter. "Ava, we need to get the out of here." He whispered. I felt him shake a little.

I looked up slowly, I knew I was going to regret it. I looked up to see a boy about five or six, he was up there and his skin was pale. His grudge like appearance scared me so much, I opened my mouth to scream but I couldn't.

"Ava, move, he's after us." Baekhyun grabbed my hand and ran for the door. "Where's the stupid doll?!" He growled in frustration.

I turned back and noticed the dark shadow creeping from the ceiling, it was getting closer and closer to us.

I looked back and the lock was jammed. Baekhyun cursed under his breath and looked around. "Give that thing the stupid doll back!" He muttered.

"It's not here!" I said. I broke out into a cold sweat, there's something wrong with this house and I knew my parents weren't going to believe me when I told them about this.

Baekhyun was still trying to unlock the door when the shadow crept up to him. It touched his arm, Baekhyun screamed and pulled away before the shadow disappeared. I pulled his sleeve up and noticed the hand marks. It was already starting to darken and bruise.

He sat down and grabbed his arm in pain. I squatted down in front of him and pulled his hands away. "Don't touch it, you're making it worst." I stammered.

This wasn't the end of it, just the beginning.

My eyes widened in fear. "Did you hear that?"

Baekhyun looked up at me and held my hand. "What's wrong? Why do you look so scared? Call your parents, they can unlock the door from the other sid-"

With shaky hands, I silenced him by putting my finger on his lips. "No...listen."

Baekhyun and I looked up at the staircase next to us. It lead to the second floor of the house, a light was dimly lit at the top of the staircase and there stood a little baby crying hysterically. Baekhyun and I stood up and stared at it. "Do you have any siblings?" He whispered.

I shook my head in silence and stepped back until my body hit the door. Baekhyun stood in front of me, we both looked at the baby who was crying. "He's real, we're not seeing things..." I whispered.

The little baby stood at the top of the staircase and cried. It's shirt was stained with marks of blood, it looked like hand prints.

I watched in fear, my hands reached to grab the doorknob. I fumbled with it a few times before getting the lock to open again.

"Baekhyun let's go." I opened the door and got ready to leave, I grabbed his arm and pulled him out. Baekhyun didn't move, instead, he pointed to something.

I looked over at what he was pointing at.

The angel statue was where the shoe rack was supposed to be. But it looked different this time... it's lips were curved into a wicked smile.

Chapter 12: great story plot, i like all the mystery and actions, however some of the things are a little bit off and left unexplained. i like the ending though, it gave reader a lot to imagine of what would happen to Ava.. was it all just a dream or real? was it really Baekhyun? or was the town really has the horror?... i guess we could only guess, or wait for any sequel... it's been 3 years though.
