Between the three of them, Kyungsoo wakes up the earliest, because 1) he’s a morning person, 2) morning is the only quiet time he gets before Baekhyun and Chanyeol wakes up, and lately, because 3) the single mother next door wakes up early too.

He washes his face and quickly darts to the window, waiting. The clock on his desk shows that it should be the time for his neighbour to wakes up, and Kyungsoo glances back outside, hand gripping the curtain of his own window.

As soon as he sees movements from the window across, Kyungsoo opens the curtains eagerly, pretending that it’s just a coincidence that he opens his window at the same time with his neighbour. You’d think that Kyungsoo, at the age of twenty-one, will mature enough to not do something like that, well, hormones doesn’t do well at his age, resulting in stupidity, even to the relatively smart guy like him (surprisingly, it’s Chanyeol who’s the smartest out of them three, while Baekhyun lacks of effort).

“Hey, hello!” a young woman greets him with a bright smile, eyes crinkling, her long, brown hair pulled up into a bun messily. It shouldn’t look that y.

“H-Hello!” Kyungsoo croaks out, and he quickly clears his throat. “Good—Good morning!” at least he manages to say.

“Thank you!” his neighbour says, “Good morning to you too, Kyungsoo-yah!”

Kyungsoo’s eyes widen because she knows my name!, but the woman takes the expression wrongly.

“Uh, it’s Kyungsoo, right? I’m so sorry if I’m wrong—”

Kyungsoo shakes his head, too quick, he gets a little bit dizzy. “No, no! I’m Kyungsoo!”

“Oh, thank God, I thought I mix up your names again…,” she sighs in relief. “Ah, I need to prepare breakfast for Sehunnie, so…,” she gestures that she needs to go, and Kyungsoo nods.

“Y-Yes, of course! B-bye!” And then he waves, dumbly, before he pulls back his own hand, realizing how stupid he behaves. His neighbour merely chuckles, leaving the window.

Kyungsoo still stands in front of his window, a little bit awestruck, but then he realizes that he has to cook breakfast for his housemates too.

*

Around two weeks ago, they had a new neighbour. They, are Baekhyun, Chanyeol, and Kyungsoo, the best of friends and housemates for the last years since they graduated from high school and decided to move to the city together.

The three expected a small family of four, like most of their neighbours, or even a pair of elderly couple, like the nice Kims by the end of the street, but instead they hit jackpot, getting a beautiful woman that can’t be older than twenty five (she’s older than twenty five) as their neighbour.

Her name is Bomi, and her face was the puppy type, cute. The problem is, contrary to the innocent, round face, her body totally rocks. Her height is just average, but she has big (Chanyeol’s type) and nice (Kyungsoo’s type), and it looks like she works out too, judging from her toned thighs (Baekhyun’s type).

They were already calling dips on the hot neighbour, before they realized that Bomi was not alone,  there’s a little boy too. He’s holding a Larva doll on his arms, frowning at his new house.

“… Her little brother, maybe?” Baekhyun whispered from his place above Chanyeol – they’re peeking at the neighbour through the window in the living room.

“Possible, maybe their parents had him late…,” Chanyeol whispered back while Kyungsoo kept quiet.

The little boy frowned deeper, running to Bomi who’s busy directing the movers into the house. “Mommy!”

“Oh,” was Kyungsoo’s response.

Apparently, their new neighbour is a single mother.

Depends on what time he falls asleep the previous night, Chanyeol can wakes up earlier than Baekhyun, or much later when everyone already leaves the house (and sometimes, much, much later, after everyone comes back). Last night he doesn’t have any band practice or any deadline, so today he comes down rather early, stomping down to the kitchen when Kyungsoo is cooking.

“What did I miss?!” he asks blearily, hair’s sticking out to different directions.

Kyungsoo doesn’t answer, perching on the sink where there’s a window facing the house next door, totally immersed on whatever it is outside. Chanyeol rushes to his side, trying to focus his eyes to anything. “Holy—! How can she has that kind of body after giving birth?” Chanyeol groans, accidentally pushing Kyungsoo aside in his attempt to take a better look at their neighbour, who’s currently stretching on a yoga mat on her living room.

“Wipe your face first, you imbecile ape,” Kyungsoo hisses, nudging Chanyeol away. “And lower the fire on the stove.”

Chanyeol is back in his spot in record time, turning on the faucet in the sink and washes his face without taking his eyes off Bomi, clad in tight yoga-pants and a white tank top which accentuated her profile. Before making a breakfast for her son, usually she spends her morning exercising, and after one day Kyungsoo realizes the view is great from the kitchen, he shamelessly enjoys it while procrastinating in his cooking.

But the show is over now, since Bomi folds her yoga mat and disappears from the living room, presumably to prepares breakfast.

“What?! That’s it?! What time is it?” Chanyeol turns to look at the clock on the wall. “Damn it, I should wake up earlier! Wake me up tomorrow.”

Kyungsoo goes back to the stove, scoffing. “Do you know how hard it is to wake you up? No thanks.”

Chanyeol frowns. “Selfish bastard. No wonder you never complain about morning duty anymore.

The shorter guy just hums lightly while stirring the soup on the pot.

For once, they’re thankful that Mrs. Jung from two houses down is such a gossip, because they didn’t have to ask, she just spilled all the information about the new y single lady.

Apparently, yes, the little boy who called her ‘Mommy!’ is her son, and the reason why there’s no Dad around is because she’s divorced. She’s twenty-six, married at the young age of twenty, and after 6 years of marriage and an adorable 4 years old boy, they realized that they didn’t want the same things anymore except for one – separation. They separated in a good term, agreeing that their kid should stay with his mother, and the Dad would visit every now and then. He’s working overseas, by the way.

So far, no appearance from the baby’s daddy, but judging from how Sehun, Bomi’s son, looks, the Dad must be easy on the eyes. Even at the age of 4, it’s not hard to predict that Sehun’s going to break a lot of hearts later when he grows up, and since he shares little resemblance with the Mom, he must takes after the Dad.

They saw her the day after, delivering rice cakes when she introduced herself as their new neighbour, her son in tow. Baekhyun was the one who opened the door, but when they heard a voice saying, “Hello, I’m Yoon Bomi, I just move to the house next door!”, Chanyeol and Kyungsoo ran to the front.

“Ah, this is my son, Sehunnie. Sehun, go greet hyung,” Bomi patted her son’s head.

The boy looked up to them with a blank face. “Hello, my name ith Thehun,” he bowed, and his mother smiled fondly of his lisp.

“Baekhyun!” Baekhyun exclaimed.

“Name’s Chanyeol!” Chanyeol practically shouted from behind Baekhyun.

“I-I’m Kyungsoo,” even Kyungsoo who couldn’t speak around girls said.

Bomi flashed them a smile, her summer dress revealed inviting collar bones and when she bended down to pick up Sehun, the three boys stared at her cleavage.

“… I’m going to the gym,” Baekhyun suddenly said after Bomi excused herself – everybody in the planet knows that he hates exercising.

“… Maybe I should buy coloured shirts…?” Kyungsoo mumbled to himself, taking off his glasses and went to his room to put on his contact lenses.

“Guys, I’m going out!” Chanyeol yelled, and when he returned hours later, his messy, curly hair was already straightened in a nice shade of silver.

With or without a kid, the fact remained the same, Bomi is one gorgeous woman, and well, it doesn’t hurt to try?

*

Baekhyun wakes up the last, jumping down the stairs in big steps while yelling, “Why you didn’t wake me up?!” to Kyungsoo and Chanyeol, both eating their breakfast and didn’t answer to his question. He goes to the sink’s window and sees Bomi there on the living room, checking on Sehun’s belonging on his bag, making sure he packs everything he needs. For some reasons she giggles, kissing Sehun’s cheek, making the little boy giggles too. Baekhyun isn’t the type who gushes over babies but damn if his insides don’t melt over the cute mother’s and son’s relationship.

“… Oh, she’s going out!” Baekhyun says, quickly combing his hair with his fingers as he makes his way out. Chanyeol follows too, dumping his plate carelessly on the table.

They manage to get out before Bomi and Sehun – Baekhyun grabs the rubber hose on their front yard, pretending he gives a about their plants and watering the dying flowers, while Chanyeol takes the conveniently placed barbell near the front door, purposely flexing his biceps. Baekhyun rolls his eyes. Strangely, Kyungsoo doesn’t come out. Great, one less competition.

They turn their head when Bomi gets out from her house, holding Sehun’s hand in her. But when Bomi looks up, both boys pretend that they’re busy with their activities.

Bomi stops in front of their house. “Good morning!” she greets.

“Oh? Ah, Bomi-ssi, good morning!” Baekhyun walks closer to the neighbour with a charming smile. He hopes the smile will distract her from his washed-out superhero tee he uses as pyjama. “Going to work already?”

“Yeah, Sehunnie wants the chocolate bread from Delight’s so we have to go earlier,” Bomi pokes Sehun’s cheek lightly with her finger, but Sehun’s face remains stoic. “Nice pyjama, by the way, Baekhyun-ah. Sehun likes Iron Man too, aren’t you, Sehunnie?”

The charming smile doesn’t work it seems, and now Baekhyun has a four years old giving him a judging stare. Meanwhile, Bomi diverts her attention to Chanyeol. “Working out, Chanyeol-ah?”

“Haha, this?” Chanyeol picks up the barbell easily, his bare arms on display. “It’s nothing, just, trying to keep in shape, ha. Haha!”

Bomi smiles kindly and Baekhyun wants to puke from the obvious, lame show-off Chanyeol puts up, but before he can do that, Kyungsoo emerges from the house.

“B-Bomi-ssi!” Kyungsoo stutters, as always whenever he talks to girls. He’s carrying a plate full of cookies that attracts Sehun’s attention. “I—I make c-cookies. Maybe, you want to… try it? Sehun?”

Sehun stares, and then turns to his mother, tugging slightly on her hand, asking for permission.

“Waah, you can make cookies, Kyungsoo-yah?” Bomi says, picking one cookie to eat while she gives another one to Sehun. “Sehunnie, what do you say to Hyung?”

Sehun bites his cookie, and Kyungsoo watches, anxious for his reaction. After all, after two weeks, none of them can make Sehun smiles just yet. This time, too, he doesn’t smile, even though he bows to Kyungsoo, “Thank you, Hyung,” and finishes the rest of his cookie quietly, seemingly enjoying it.

“This is really good. You’re good!” Bomi tells him, and Kyungsoo blushes, stuttering out a thank you. Chanyeol drops his barbell and Baekhyun has the urge to water Kyungsoo instead of the flowers.

“If, if you want, you can take all of it,” Kyungsoo says. “Maybe Sehun… can take them to school?”

“Oh that’s a good idea! What do you say, Sehun, these cookies over Delight’s bread?” Bomi looks down to Sehun, and as soon as the little boy nods, her smile blooms. “I will take Sehun’s lunch box, Sehun, wait here with Hyung, alright?”

Sehun obeys, doesn’t budge from his place even when his mother leaves him alone with the three boys.

Chanyeol walks up to them, saying, “You sly bast—,” he stops himself, catching Sehun’s stare at him. He coughs. “Uh, nevermind.”

“I don’t even know you bake!” Baekhyun says, reaching to take one piece from Kyungsoo’s plate. Kyungsoo moves it out of the way, and Baekhyun is about to wrestle him, but then he realizes Sehun has his eyes on him now.

“… He’s scary,” Chanyeol whispers from behind. Baekhyun and Kyungsoo slowly nod in unison.

“Do you want more, Sehunnie?” Kyungsoo tries to ask, lowering himself to offer the cookies.

Sehun takes one without a word, eyes darting around from Kyungsoo, to Baekhyun, to Chanyeol, before he goes back to Kyungsoo. Kyungsoo smiles nervously at him.

“My Dad ith taller than you,” Sehun tells him out the blue, biting his cookies. Kyungsoo’s jaw hangs low hearing what the kid just said. Baekhyun snorts amusedly, but he shuts up when Sehun looks to him. “My Dad ith prettier than you.”

“Wha—?”

“And,” Sehun glances to Chanyeol, the tall guy tenses immediately. “… Dad ith manlier than you.”

“What the hell—,” Chanyeol forgets not to curse. “What is this kid saying—”

“Ah, sorry I took a while!” Bomi shows up, a bright yellow lunch box in her hand.

Kyungsoo, although still stunned with how the seemingly harmless boy just insult all of them, helps Bomi packs the cookies before she puts them inside Sehun’s Baymax bag. “Now we’re ready to go! Thank you so much, Kyungsoo-yah, I’ll make sure to cook for you boys tomorrow!”

“Ah, n-no, it’s fine!” Kyungsoo quickly waves his hand in dismissal.

“Don’t worry, I love to cook anyway. But I really have to go now. Sehun, say ‘bye’!”

The three boys flinch voluntarily when Sehun stares at them. However, instead another soulless goodbye, Sehun fully smiles, cute and a replica of his mother now.  “Bye bye, Hyung.”

“Ah, good boy!” Bomi coos over her own soon, picking him up and kisses his cheek. “Okay, catch you later?”

The three best friends watch the single mother and her son walks down the path, and they haven’t go too far when suddenly Sehun looks over his shoulder, smirking mischievously to them.

It takes some times before they get their senses back.

“… Are we seriously being played by a four years old kid?!”
