Different
Spontaneous CircumstancesHello hello! Here's another oneshot for you all! I can't believe my break is already halfway over T-T Oh well, I'm charging up for the next quarter, so wish me luck :D
Enjoy.
“Do you believe in fate?”
I looked up in surprise at Ki Bum, distracted from the chemistry problem I was currently doing. I expected him to be looking at me, but he was just staring out the window. Looking over towards that direction, I saw the yellow street lights below, and the dim reflections of the two of us, sitting on the couch in the suite living room. His reflection turned to look over at me, and I turned toward him in response.
“Why such a question?”
“I was just curious. So…do you?”
I turned away and thought for a second. No one ever directly asked me such a question before, so I didn’t have a ready response. After pondering for a couple of more seconds, I answered.
“I think some things happen for a reason.”
“I don’t.”
“You don’t?”
Ki Bum shook his head.
“No. I suppose fate is too…tangible of a concept. The thought that our actions are predestined, that we had no control over what we do is ridiculous to me.”
I laughed.
“Yeah, the idea of me being predestined to be studying here at 1 in the morning is a bit strange.”
I heard him chuckle softly as I stared back into my book, though I had a feeling it would be sometime before I could finish this problem.
“I think that our actions are all based on our will. What we decide to do affects our future actions, and thus the consequences of each action.”
“And whatever we choose to do affects the person we are today,” I added.
“Yes, very much so.”
A silence dragged on after he spoke. Although it wasn’t uncomfortable, it was a bit strange. Ki Bum frequently asked me questions like these, and it always made me think even more than I thought I would. I didn’t know the purpose or the reasons behind these questions, even though he always claimed curiosity each time I asked. Although I wasn’t used to such, it wasn’t all together unwelcomed.
“Sorry for asking such a question. It was kind of weird, wasn’t it?”
He looked apologetic almost, but I shook my head and smiled.
“Not weird, just different.”
“Oh, okay. Good.”
“Though, you have been making me think a lot.”
“Think?”
“Just about these types of things in general. No one’s ever asked me such abstract questions before.”
“It’s good to take some time to think once in awhile.”
I looked over at him again, and he had a smile on his face. Returning his smile, I nodded.
“Yeah, it is.”
He turned back to his editing, and I back to my chemistry. However, his question lingered in the back of mind till I went to bed. It was different, but it was good.
Yup, there you go!
