Congee

Donghae layed awake in his bed, recounting his day with a smile.

The dinner had been a good one, just like their previous, and the thought of Jessica stayed lingering in his mind. He couldn't seem to get her out of his mind these days.

They say that one does their deepest thinking at night and it was only as Donghae layed there in that moment that he realized how wrong he had been. 

Fame. Status. Wealth. Luxury. They weren't the reason for the smile he was wearing. They had never been. It was love. It was Jessica.

He was going to pursue her. His love, his happiness.

Donghae grinned his boyish smile at the thought and closed his eyes to sleep.

Just as he was on the brink of submerging into sleep, his eyes jolted open when he realized what he had urgently been wanting to do.

Reaching for his phone, he dialed in a number.

"Hyukjae?"

There was a slight pause before there was a response.

"Yo, what's up my man?" the receiver answered comedically.

He let out a chuckle at the forever childish man.

"I need you to do something for me."

Donghae was one to get straight to the point.

"Sure. What is it? Just say the word, D!"

"I need you to do what you do best. Investigate."

The man on the line let out a hearty chuckle.

"What I do best and what I love best! So who's the guy?"

"Girl," Donghae paused, "Jung Jessica."

The heir sat in his chair bored out of his mind as he twirled a pen around in his hand.

He then leaned his head on his propped arms and casted a glance up ahead.

Jessica Jung. Where in the world are you?

Grabbing hold of the telephone, Donghae dialed in her secretary's number.

"Director Lee?" her secretary picked up.

"Do you know where Director Jung is today?"

"Ah! Director Jung had called in sick, Sir."

"Okay, thanks Hara."

Donghae was quick to hang up the phone, immediately slinging his coat over his shoulders before his long strides passed through the office door.

The brunette grumbled crankily.

Why was it that there was always someone ringing her doorbell when all she ever wanted was some peace and quiet?

'What has the world come to when you can't even sleep without being disturbed?!' Jessica thought dramatically.

Upon opening the door, she could only let out a groan at her visitor.

"Why do you come to disturb my sleep every single time, Lee Donghae?!" 

He quirked an eyebrow at her and she reached out to push it down, back to its original place.

"Stop doing that!"

He chuckled all too amused, before pressing the back of his palm to her forehead.

"Hmmm, not that hot. Why do you get sick so easily, Jessica Jung?"

She frowned.

"I do not! You just happen to be there to witness everytime I get sick!"

Jessica plopped herself down on her sofa with a huff as she hugged a pillow to her chest and curled into a fetal position with eyes closed.

"Where are you not feeling well?" the still too amused man inquired.

"I just have a headache," she mumbled back quietly, an indication that she was gradually slipping into slumber.

Donghae shook his head at her disapprovingly before draping the blanket by her feet, over her shoulders.

Dusting off his hands like he had just finished a job well done, the businessman smiled down at the sleeping beauty and proceeded to the kitchen.

He stood for a minute staring at her apron, debating whether he should put it on or not.

It was a bit too frilly and pink for his liking but he finally slipped it on nonetheless. That is, not without any struggles.

He had made sure to be prepared this time, educating himself on how to care for a sick person after the first time she had fallen sick.

Blowing at the congee, Donghae dipped the spoon back into the pot as he stirred it gently.

He added in some salt, just enough to flavour the congee. Then he added some sugar, just in case she was more of a sweets person.

his chin, Donghae looked to and fro between the ginger and the onion before he chopped them both up and added them into the congee as well.

 At the finishing touch of his creative masterpiece, the cook leaned back in great satisfaction.

Grinning from ear to ear, Donghae softly nudged Jessica awake to feed her the congee.

The brunette was deeply touched by his thoughts and actions as she watched him tediously blow at her congee.

Expectantly, she gulped down the first spoonful of congee when he brought it to .

Plastering a sweet smile on her lips, Jessica raised her thumb up at him while inwardly cringing at the weird mixture of a congee.

Her taste buds were delivered to a mix of sweetness, saltiness, and spiciness, making her wonder what Donghae had added into the congee.

It looked completely normal and tasty, but the taste was just a tad bit off.

As if reading her thoughts, Donghae spoke up.

"I added some sugar, salt, ginger to soothe any sore throat, and onion just because it's good for you! I'm glad you liked how it turned out!"

On cue, the brunette bursted into a fit of coughs and Donghae patted her back worriedly.

"Should I add in something for your cough too?" his eyebrows stitched together in thoughtfulness. 

Jessica frantically shook her head.

"No! No! That's okay! I like the taste as it is right now, I don't want it to change!" she quipped in hastily.

Donghae smiled.

"If you like it so much, I'd be happy to make it for you whenever you're sick."

She couldn't help but laugh. 

"Thanks, Donghae," she said sincerely.

The smile on his face remained with a stretch. He was relieved that this time around, he was able to take care of her properly.

"JE-" Tayeon shouted upon slamming the door to the condo open.

Wooyoung was quick to muffle her scream, shaking his head at their noisy entrance.

The short girl's eyes widened into saucers.

"Yah, Woo, am I dreaming?" she whispered this time and turned to him, "Pinch me!"

The boy laughed softly at his girlfriend. 

She could be such a dork.

"You're not dreaming, Tae," he assured her as his hands rested on her waist.

"Good!" she grinned before pulling out her phone to take a picture of the scene before her.

Donghae and Jessica had fallen asleep on her sofa in opposite directions, one upside down and one upright, as their head layed side by side, and lips inches apart.

Wooyoung reached to hold his girlfriend back but before he could manage to do so, she had already snapped a picture of the two.

"Sica's going to kill you, Tae."

Taeyeon wagged a finger at him and plastered on a goofy smile.

"Nu uh, she'll thank me for it!"

The short boy pretended to sigh exasperatedly, to which his girlfriend immediately gave him a shove for.

Jessica stretched and pulled herself up from her position as she checked her phone for the time.

She noticed that it had gotten quite late and there was now a new message from Taeyeon.

Tapping on the inbox, she scrolled to open her best friend's message.

Sicaaa-ah! I hope you're feeling better now! I came by to visit with Woo but noticed that you were having a sweet dream with your lover boy, so being the good friend that I clearly am, I didn't want to interrupt ;) Remember to drink your medicine! I left some food in the fridge for you guys as well- in case well, you know, Donghae's congee is as bad as all the onion and ginger makes it look. Love you~ PS. Hope you like my photography skills!

Attached was the picture that Taeyeon had taken of the two earlier and Jessica couldn't help but blush upon seeing it.

Yah! Kim Taeyeon! You better watch out, I'm going to kill you later! But thanks for dropping by, Taeng! You're the best as always! Love ya back~ xo

Realizing that Jessica was awake, Donghae quickly propped himself up and turned to her.

"Not sleepy anymore, Miss Sleepyhead?" he , the corner of his lips tilting upwards.

She shook her head with a smile playing upon her lips and he felt for her temperature.

"Your temperature's better too!"

She nodded her head with her smile still in tact.

"Let's go out for some desserts!" she chimed after a few seconds and before he could even answer, she hopped off the couch and ran into her room to dress.

When she emerged from her room, Jessica took his hand and without sparing him a chance to protest, she pulled him out of the apartment.

"Don't you mean dinner?" he laughed.

"Hmmm? Oh! We can have that after desserts! Taeyeon brought some while we were asleep!"

Donghae leaned in and pressed his lips to her forehead.

She blinked rapidly as her heart hammered against her chest, taken by surprise.

He pulled back with a smirk and she punched him for it.

"Come with me to the masquerade?" he requested earnestly.

She hesitated, looking unsure.

"I'm sorry," she started out and his face immediately fell.

Jessica laughed and before the poor boy could think of her as crazy, she answered him, "I'd love to."

He promptly smiled and gazed at her adoringly.

"I'll see you tomorrow then."

She nodded and sent him off with a peck on the cheeks.

They lingered on, in each other's presence before Donghae finally jogged off towards his car, waving back.

I can't help but feel like it's such a filler though ):

Even when I have the plot all planned out, I still feel myself having writer's block from being dissatisfied with my chapters :S
