"Ah Eun-shil you're here." Sunggyu greeted her happily, nodding to Woohyun who looked kind of solemn. "Will you be staying for dinner?"

Woohyun seemed like he wasn't paying any attention so Sunggyu asked him again, looking at him curiously. "Ah? Ah... No, I'll be on my way now."

"Ah, really?" Sunggyu made a bored face and then he took Eun-shil's wrist and pulled her inside.

"I'll be going now." Woohyun said, smiling somberly.

Eun-shil turned to him, saying nothing but gave him a sad gaze before she walked away, leaving Sunggyu confused and Woohyun in despair.

"Did you two have a fight?" Sunggyu asked, furrowing.

Woohyun was annoyed again. "Take care of Eun-shil."

Sunggyu went to Eun-shil's room when Woohyun was gone, to find her looking out of the window from a side so that Woohyun who was walking out of the gate wouldn't notice her. When he was out of sight, Eun-shil was still staring outside, as if she wanted him to come back; but he didn't.

The night before had been rather too painful to even be remembered. Woohyun tried to make love to her after so long but she was in no condition to do it. Eun-shil felt her heart becoming heavier as she looked down on the window sill, and when she finally turned, she saw Sunggyu standing awkwardly at the door.

"Oppa."

Sunggyu didn't answer her but he went closer towards her, and stood beside the window. He said nothing as he looked out of the window, and felt it as Eun-shil was staring at him.

"I wonder..." She began, her voice slow and almost quiet. "If I wasn't sick, would I be able to meet Oppa." It wasn't a question, Sunggyu had observed as he turned to her and studied her dimmed eyes.

Sunggyu smiled, feeling rather burdened by it. "Perhaps not."

"True." Eun-shil smiled. "Perhaps you don't even want to know of my existence."

Sunggyu looked out of the windows again. "That's right. I don't want to know."

Eun-shil couldn't even look up. Perhaps this was what Sunggyu had been feeling towards her. She was after all, a burden. She felt her eyes burning up.

"I don't want to know you like this. Not in this condition." He said, sighing. "I wished I didn't meet you as my sister."

She looked up slowly, looking at the side of his face, feeling her breath getting heavier.

"Eun-shil-ah, if we didn't know that we were siblings, what do you think would've happened?" He was studying the plants outside, looking at the dried leaves. His heart was beating slowly, but it wasn't calm.

"I'd still want to know more about you." She said, smiling faintly.

"Me too." He said, smiling. "Will you dump Woohyun then?"

Eun-shil looked to see if he was joking but his face was still thoughtful. "I can't..."

"Why not?"

"Woohyun is... all I have."

Why was it hard to even say those words?

"But you'll have me. I can take care of you."

"Oppa..." Eun-shil felt as something was creeping inside her heart, making her felt anxious as she went on looking at Sunggyu's unchanging expression.

"I guess I won't be as good, huh?" He finally smiled and looked at her. "Which is why you were sent to Woohyun first instead of me."

Eun-shil smiled a little. "Do you hate me, Oppa?"

"No." Sunggyu said, calmly, smiling at her. "I love you."

Eun-shil's face changed first as she looked down on her feet, feeling like her face had just drained out of blood or was flushing red. Sunggyu who noticed this quickly laughed awkwardly.

"That's a given isn't it? I'm your Oppa." He said, smiling giddily. "Aigoo, what's wrong with me today." He muttered, walking away from the window, scratching his head, looking like he didn't know of what to do. "It's normal, isn't it? I'm your brother and you're my sister and I love you. But since I don't have any other siblings I'm not sure how it is actually is. But I do love you. Um! I do. Don't you love me too, Eun-shil?" Sunggyu cursed himself just as those words slipped his mouth.

"Um. I... love you." She said, timidly, looking down on the floor near where Sunggyu was standing.

Sunggyu felt like he was frozen when he heard that and took exactly five seconds before responding to it. "That's right!" He said, a bit loud. "I love you. You love me. We are happy family~"He sang, with his widened eyes and he just couldn't stand still.

Eun-shil looked at him and laughed a bit at his silliness but she said nothing.

"Well, I'm going to check on Mrs. Shim to see what she's cooking for dinner." He said, giving her an awkward smile and stormed out of the room.

"Oppa is really weird." Eun-shil said, laughing a bit, and sat on her bed, feeling her eyes burning a little. She was smiling to herself, remembering Sunggyu's words.

Perhaps it was better if they didn't meet. But since she met him, she had never felt the urge to live so much. Sunggyu had even donated his bone marrow to her, to keep her alive. So, even if Sunggyu had wished not to meet her, Eun-shil would do anything to find him if she knew of his existence. Even if she has to watch from afar, she wanted to meet Sunggyu.

Eun-shil sat on her chair, across Sunggyu who was busying himself talking to Mrs. Shim. She kept on looking at him, with her bright pair of eyes, and they clearly disturbed Sunggyu as he turned to her, furrowing. Eun-shil looked down on her bowl of rice, trying to count the rice. When they had begun eating, she ate slowly as she felt she didn't have much appetite. She stopped after just 2 spoons of rice and Sunggyu who was watching put down his spoon.

"What's wrong?"

Eun-shil looked up, hazily. "Ah...? Oh... I just don't have much appetite." Her voice was probably a bit quiet.

"Are you okay? Is there anything wrong?"

Shr shook her head and pursed her eyes for a bit. Sunggyu's hand went to her forehead and he furrowed again. "Why are you burning up?"

Eun-shil's put her hand on her cheek, and blinked dreamily, but she said nothing. Sunggyu got up, and went over to her, feeling her forehead again, her cheeks, and her neck. Eun-shil was only watching in silence.

"You're having a fever. Let's go to the hospital." He said, with a solemn face, and held her arms, lifting her up. She staggered to her feet, and only then did she feel how weak her body felt. Sunggyu was supporting her to the front door, as Mrs. Shim gave them their coats. He got her into his car, buckled her up and patted her head, and smiled when Eun-shil turned to him. She hugged herself, feeling a bit cold and slouched down in her seat. Sunggyu kept on glancing towards her, feeling anxious while trying to concentrate on his driving. All he could do was occasionally her head, hoping that she'd be fine.

The doctor told him that Eun-shil had had another infection, perhaps due to the visit from Howon and Jae-kyung the day before. Her platelet counts had suddenly dropped too, and the doctors had taken her blood sample for test to further confirm things. Sunggyu was sitting on his chair, waiting for Eun-shil to wake up. Sunggyu felt sick, looking at the IV hanging on the post, wondering where those platelet came from.

Sunggyu furrowed, thinking how Woohyun had went through this a few times before but he never failed to stay by her side. His chest became heavy when he had that thought and he watched anxiously as Eun-shil began stirring.

Eun-shil woke up, and her mind was clear, though she was feeling extremely upset to be in that condition. She was glad to know that it was only an infection and not something more serious.

"Omo. I haven't told Woohyun about this." Sunggyu said suddenly, blinking at her.

"No." She pulled his sleeve, looking desperate. "Y

Chapter 23: You made me cry so much .. so much that I can't stop my tears no matter how hard I try to stop
This story is the saddest story I've ever read in my entire life!
I really hoped that Woohyun will marry her even though I knew she will die..
I wanted Eun-shil to forgive him as always but..

May God ease the pain of patients who suffer every day and give them strength to go on.. For those around them as well who suffer seeing their beloved ones in this state

I know this fic is kind of old? But I really love it. First of all, thank you for writing such a beautiful story. I have never cried this much, to be exact, it has been 3 years since the last time I cried this much. Thank you for making me realize that I still have a heart, proving that I am not a heartless person.

It reminds me of my boyfriend who died 3 years ago, just like Eunshil, he was suffering from leukemia. I understand the unbearable pain Woohyun had while taking care of Eunshil, and Eunshil herself. Just like Eunshil, he lost his self-confidence, he in fact, lost his faith to even live.

Reading this fic again makes me missing him more than ever. Nevertheless, thank you for writing this fic, really. It's beautiful and perhaps... painful at the same time.
