Woohyun was just about to feed Eun-shil some food before she turned away and frowned.

"Eun-shil you have to eat something."

It was Day 10 after the transplant and Eun-shil was beginning to lose her appetite again and was sore, and it was hurting her badly though she was given some medicine to relieve them. The doctor was concerned that it may be a sign of a failing transplantation but it turned out it was just the side effects from the previous chemo. She shook her head when Woohyun tried to feed her again, and furrowed harder. The nurse came over and took her blood sample, and took her measurements. She had lost at least 13 pounds after the transplant and it was worrying everyone, especially Woohyun.

"Just a little will do." Woohyun said, consolingly.

Eun-shil was unable to speak, and it hurt just to open it. When Woohyun tried again, she became angry and pushed Woohyun's hand away, rather strongly so or perhaps it was because Woohyun was caught off guard. The plastic bowl dropped onto the floor and the spoon clattered loudly against the floor. Eun-shil looked away in agony, feeling some regret settling down in her chest.

Woohyun was quiet when he bent down and collected the bowl and spoon, taking a towel and cleaned up the floor. He took a mop from the bathroom, and used the antiseptic to clean the floor. He went out to throw away the bowl and floor, looking down on the garbage bin for a while. When he went back to Eun-shil's room, she was still sitting up, looking down her hands on her lap. Her face was miserable as she took a notebook from the side table and wrote something.

미안  ('m sorry)

Woohyun's gaze softened as he sat on her bed, and looked down on Eun-shil's lips. He breathed out a sigh, and looked into her eyes. They weren't watery but they were etched with pain. His gaze left her eyes when he kissed her forehead. When Woohyun was sleeping on the sofa that night, Eun-shil cried silently, looking at him, apologizing repeatedly.

Her mind was always fuzzy, and she found it hard to concentrate most of the times. She read the book Sunggyu had bought her but she forgot what happened before the page that she had marked. She forgot that she had brushed her teeth and the worst thing was she forgot how she had no hair that she began breaking down every time she took off her beanie.

There was a time where Eun-shil wasn't allowed any visitor at all for a day. It was Woohyun's turn and he had felt so miserable that he refused to go home after being talked to by the doctor. Apparently Eun-shil's immunity was at jeopardy that day and she was to avoid any contact from outside until the doctor said it was okay for it. Worried, Woohyun sat on the bench just outside her room, glancing nervously at the nurse who came every now and then to check on her.

"Is she okay?"

He would ask that endlessly and the nurse would answer her tirelessly.

"She's looking better."

Woohyun left the hospital with a heavy heart that night.

Sunggyu and Woohyun tried their best to cheer her up. Woohyun bought her fancy beanies as she had refused wigs. He bought her bunny beanie for her and himself. It made Eun-shil smiled and laughed like a child, looking at Woohyun's silly faces. So he began to buy all sorts of beanies that he could find. Sunggyu bought her some too and Woohyun was somehow vexed by it. Sunggyu had bought her a hamster beanie and Woohyun bought her a koala beanie on the same day and they were arguing about which one was cuter, while trying not to be so obvious about it.

"You look cute." Woohyun said, fixing the beanie on her head.

Eun-shil blinked hazily, looking at Sunggyu who stood there, looking dissatisfied. "You had a koala before, didn't you, Eun-shil?"

"The design was a bit different." Woohyun said, turning to him, and smiled.

Sunggyu almost scoffed before he stopped himself.

"Well, I'll be going now." Woohyun said, holding Eun-shil's face in her hands. "Ah... My cute Eun-shil."

Eun-shil only furrowed and waved, making a face when Woohyun was leaving. Sunggyu immediately took his place and sat down, fiddling with the hamster beanie. Eun-shil watched him for a while, before reaching out to the beanie. Sunggyu handed it to her, with a wistful face and watched as Eun-shil was looking down on it, with a smile on her face.

"It's cute." She said, turning to Sunggyu.

Sunggyu smiled, rather victoriously. "Do you like it better?"

Eun-shil laughed a little. "I love all the beanies Oppa and Woohyun bought for me. They're all very cute." She scratched the hamster's nose on the beanie before looking at Sunggyu again. "Can I try it on?"

"Of course." Sunggyu said, rapidly.

Eun-shil's hands went up to touch the cat beanie she was wearing but her hands stopped midways. She was not used of Sunggyu looking at her with no hair and she was somehow feeling repulsed by it. Sunggyu noticed that her face had changed, so slowly, he stood up and touched her beanie, watching Eun-shil's face looking as if she was in pain. She shut her eyes tightly when Sunggyu took off her beanie. Her face looked a bit different when the beanie was taken off of her head, but Sunggyu found himself not minding it at all.

Sunggyu sat down on her bed, and bravely held her face, just like how Woohyun would do to her. She opened her eyes slowly and met with his gentle eyes. He smiled, and he couldn't help to fix his eyes on her slightly trembling lips.

"It's okay." He said, caressing her cheeks a little. "You're still beautiful."

Eun-shil felt her face flushing when he said that, so she bit her lips in embarrassment before Sunggyu began putting on the hamster beanie on her head. He deliberately took his time to fix it on her, smiling to himself, wondering why he felt at ease. Eun-shil said nothing and she was almost holding her breath, feeling Sunggyu's touches that somehow was making her feel ticklish around her head. Her heart was beating rapidly as well, and she was somehow nervous.

Sunggyu pulled his hands away and looked at her again. "This looks better on you."

Eun-shil laughed a bit and scratched her cheek, looking at Sunggyu's thin eyes.

It was only after 22 days that some news came; good news. The bone marrow was engrafted and Eun-shil's blood counts were slowly going up again. Everyone welcomed the good news but Eun-shil still needed to stay at the hospital for at least a week more. She felt dreaded by it but at least there were some progress. Her immunity was better, though weak, and she would take 10 minutes walk along the hospital corridor with Woohyun or Sunggyu every day without fail. She hated to lean on them so she tried to walk on her own but she got tired too easily. Nevertheless, she was getting somewhere.

"I think I should prepare the house now." Woohyun said, 3 days before she was discharged. "The doctor told me to sanitize everything in the house."

"Everything?" Eun-shil's eyes went big.

"Yeah. Might as well move to someplace else." He sai

Chapter 23: You made me cry so much .. so much that I can't stop my tears no matter how hard I try to stop
This story is the saddest story I've ever read in my entire life!
I really hoped that Woohyun will marry her even though I knew she will die..
I wanted Eun-shil to forgive him as always but..

May God ease the pain of patients who suffer every day and give them strength to go on.. For those around them as well who suffer seeing their beloved ones in this state

I know this fic is kind of old? But I really love it. First of all, thank you for writing such a beautiful story. I have never cried this much, to be exact, it has been 3 years since the last time I cried this much. Thank you for making me realize that I still have a heart, proving that I am not a heartless person.

It reminds me of my boyfriend who died 3 years ago, just like Eunshil, he was suffering from leukemia. I understand the unbearable pain Woohyun had while taking care of Eunshil, and Eunshil herself. Just like Eunshil, he lost his self-confidence, he in fact, lost his faith to even live.

Reading this fic again makes me missing him more than ever. Nevertheless, thank you for writing this fic, really. It's beautiful and perhaps... painful at the same time.
