Chapter Seventeen – I Wish

Kyungsoo peered at his best friend, Kai, with a questioning look adorned on his face. Indeed, he was feeling weird over him who had been so intense since the last two hours. His hands never left his cell phone. He had no idea what was up with him.

“Kai-yah? What’s up?” he questioned concernedly. “You look dead serious and it makes me feel kind of weird..”

He looked at Kyungsoo and soon, a deep sigh came out helplessly.

“What happened?” Kyungsoo seemed impatient when Kai decided to stay silent. “Tell me if you’ve problems, friends. I’m here to help you..”

“It’s about Yoona,” he started as he tossed his cell phone on the coffee table with yet another sigh.

“Yoona? What about her that makes you feel so helpless, huh?”

“She’s not answering my calls, Kyungsoo-yah,” the latter bursted out in devastation. “There must be something up with her...”

Kyungsoo ended up bursting into a big laughter upon his words. For God’s sake, he thought it was something so crucial but it turned out to be so trivial. It was all about Yoona. It tickled him a lot.

“Why are you laughing?” Kai frowned at him in confusion. “I suppose this ain’t funny, Kyungsoo-yah..”

“Indeed, this is freaking funny, for God’s sake, Kai-yah!” he said in the middle of his laugh. “I thought it was something so important that you’re being so serious and stuffs. But it turned out to be only because of Yoona!”

“Yah, it’s important!” He stucked his tongue out. “I’m so worried over her, though. I guess there must something up with her.”

“You shouldn’t have thought like that, Kai-yah,” the elder remarked, “maybe she’s kind of busy that she can’t answer your calls or something.”

“Still, I’m worried,” the latter replied edgily, his voice did show how apprehensive he was towards Yoona.

Kyungsoo smiled calmly at his friend and patted his shoulder lightly. “Don’t worry too much, Kai-yah. She’s okay. Plus, he’s got a super loveable husband that will take care of her to the fullest.”

“Uhm... alright then.” Kai nodded sluggishly and the elder's smile turned wider upon his remark.

Little did Kyungsoo know, Kai was pretty hurt by his last words. His heart sank to the bottom.

***

Yoona knew she wasn’t a perfect wife; though she ran all the chores at home and of course, she really took care of her husband’s welfare. On top of that, she gave her greatest love to him that anyone wouldn’t have gotten it. In fact, she didn’t love Kai as much as she loved Luhan. But why Luhan had suddenly been so cold towards her?

He said he loved her too when she bravely confessed to him. But why she was treated like a stranger? Why?

Indeed, she felt very weird. He had been so fondly nice towards her these past few days and out of the blue, he changed so drastically that she had no idea what had gotten into him. For God’s sake, she hadn’t expected Luhan to be so cold, ignorant and detached towards her. He had never acted as cold as he did this morning and last night. This gave her such a great shock.

She couldn’t help but feel wanting to cry out loud, flooding all her devastation towards the latter. But she wondered if she kept crying and crying, what did she get in the end? Luhan would still be the same, though.

Nevertheless, how many times Luhan hurt her, she couldn’t help but want him back. The normal him, that always made her days brighter than gems. That was what she yearned for although it might take thousand of years.

She will wait for him, willingly.

***

“Where’s Luhan-ah?” Joongki flickered his eyes around as he barged in the living room, but Luhan’s image wasn’t seen there. He raised an eyebrow in bewilderment.

“He’s not coming, oppa,” Nana enlightened on behalf of Yoona. Then, she let out an exasparated sigh. “I guess he’s got loads of works to be done at office?” She laid her gaze at Yoona and the elder nodded sluggishly in approval.

“Uhm, I suppose,” Yoona said and a dull smile flitted across her face. To be frank, she felt so ashamed and sinned to cast a lie towards her family in-law. If she wouldn’t do that, they would probably think that they had a serious fight or in a detached seperate. Plus, she did that for Luhan’s sake. “He’s pretty busy lately.”

“Though he’s so busy, he could have dropped by for a couple of minutes and then, he could get back to office,” Mr. Xi pitched in. He bit his lip slightly; he was kind of exasperated upon his son’s imprudence. How could he let his wife be here all alone? “Like Joongki-ah... Even though he’s busy, he does get back home for lunch,” he added as he took a glance at his son in-law, making the latter blush.

“Plus, it’s lunchtime,” Nana continued, “who on earth would work during lunchtime?” Nana’s eyes narrowed in contemplation. “Absurd!”

Yoona had no guts to chime in. If she ever did, she would have no idea what to reply after they bombarded her with a bunch of inquiries. So, silence was the better solution.

The conversation got cut off upon Mrs. Xi’s presence. The lunch had already prepared so they would better eat now.

***

Yoona could now heave a sigh of relief as everything went smoothly as she planned. The fact that Xi family didn’t have the urge to ask further about Luhan eased her. It seemed like the latter’s existence throughout the lunch was merely vague. His name wasn’t mentioned even once.

Still, she had no idea why she still wanted to protect Luhan though he treated her like a complete stranger lately. Indeed, she was helpless. Her heart enunciated her to still believe in him; one day he might get back to normal even it seemed such a vague hope.

“Oh, you’re home?” Yoona laid her eyes on him as he stepped in the living room. Her eyebrows knitted together as she pondered over a thing. The latter went home pretty late today. She thought that he either must have had a lot of works at office or he did that on purpose. He didn’t want to meet eyes to eyes with her. Her heart sank to the bottom as the thoughts dwelled on her mind.

“Uhm, yeah,” replied Luhan in nonchalance. He didn’t even look at Yoona for once.

“Have you eaten, Luhan-ssi?” Yoona asked, her voice was dripped with much concern.

“Uhm, I haven’t and I don’t feel like to eat,” he answered coldly and intended to go straight to the bedroom without even dropping by the living room. Usually, he would have rested on the couch and have a casual talk with her wife before he went into the bedroom.

“Luhan-ssi,” Yoona excused him before he could get into the room. “Can we talk for a second?”

Unexpectedly, he turned around and gave
