Happenings

Dear Diary, I am Fat.

“The dance camp is coming. Aren’t you guys excited?!” Jiyeon asked in an excited tone.

“YES!” came the resounding reply.

However, her words sent shivers down Cho Hee’s spine. At the thought of the dance camp, she cringed. She recalled how Jiyeon gave her the dirtied camp list, how she was utterly embarrassed in camp and most importantly his words from that night. She would never forget. Or rather, she can never forget. Somehow, the stack of camp lists was handed out during practice. When it reached Cho Hee, there were none left.

“You can have mine.” Someone offered.

“It’s okay.” She replied without looking at him.

She knew who it was without looking anyway. The voice she could never forget, probably even in the next life.

“I’m fine without it, really.” He insisted.

“It’s okay. You can have it back.” She pushed the paper back into his hands.

“Aish. Just take it.” He said once more, prying open her fingers and placing it in her palm.

She flinched at the contact and dropped the paper.

“What’s wrong with you? I told you I don’t need yours, right? Why are you being so insistent?” She half-shouted at him.

Hoya was shocked.

“I’m not going to camp so I won’t need it…” Cho Hee said so softly that it was barely audible.

“Why?” he asked.

She remained silent.

Then, Hoya raised his hands and Jiyeon looked to him in a confused manner. It was not everyday that the dance machine of the group posed questions.

“All members have to be present for the camp regardless of any reasons, right?” he asked.

“Uhm, yes.” She answered with a nod.

“Alright, thanks.” He nodded with a satisfied smile.

Cho Hee’s shoulders deflated and she wondered why he was doing this to her. She couldn’t understand him anymore. Also, she couldn’t understand why her heart was reacting even more strongly than before. She was supposed to learn her lesson. She was supposed to.

“Lee Howon, why are you doing this to me?” she thought with another sigh.

Standing before the school gates, Cho Hee tightened her grip on the bag strap. She did not want to go to the school camp knowing what was awaiting her. She dreaded. Maybe knowing things beforehand was not that good after all. She spun on her heels after a good ten minutes standing before the gates. She chose to run away.

“Not going to dance camp?” the person asked.

Cho Hee looked at Myungsoo who had his bag slung behind him. She nodded her head lightly before following him in. She wondered if everything was pre-planned. In her mind, she couldn’t help but think if all the major events that have happened ought to happen again. In that case, she wondered… if she would have to die again. That’s provided that she was dead at the moment though.

“So… Welcome to the annual dance camp everyone!~ I assure you guys will enjoy yourself to the fullest in these 2 days.” Jiyeon said confidently.

Together with Myung Soo and other executive members in Sparklex, Jiyeon was the main organisers of the annual camp. At her ‘opening speech’, everyone clapped and cheered loudly in response.

“So now all girls would report to dorms …”

“Guys, follow me to…”

“Report back here by…

“Everything is the same.” She mumbled to no one in particular.

It was the same- going to the dorms, unpacking and cleaning up together. Cho Hee felt her stomach ache a bit. She needed to go to the toilet. In an attempt to defy, she held back the pain. However, it just got more painful.

“Is it on purpose?” she thought.

Returning from the toilet, she pushed open the door to be met with a deafening silence. The fans were switched off, creating an unpleasant atmosphere with only the still air surrounding her and only her. They had left, without her, just like before. Cho Hee felt the feelings coming back to her again no matter how hard she fought against it. The feeling of being left aside, thrown away and despised.

“Cho Hee.” One of the girls shouted from outside the windows.

“Hey, girls. She’s here.” The girl waved to the rest.

“We thought you were in the toilet.” She explained, holding onto the glass panel.

“What are you doing inside? We got to go already,  you know. It’s gathering time! Faster~” She waved her hand and said with a smile.

Cho Hee felt warm on the inside for the first time.

“Eh, where are the guys?” One of them questioned.

They had reached the gathering venue but the rest were already gone.

“I think I know where they are.” Cho Hee spoke up and the rest looked at her quizzically.

The group of girls reached the open space where the dance battle was going to be held. The guys looked at them in a surprised manner. Jiyeon smiled and clapped at the girls’ arrival.

“The guys wanted to play hide-and-seek but I think you girls took a lot faster than expected, huh?” she said.

“Cho Hee led us here.” One of them blurted out.

“How did you know?” Someone questioned.

“Instinct.” She replied with a smile.

The rest nodded in understanding or maybe not.

“Come on people, split into two groups.” Jiyeon shouted as she clapped her hands together repeatedly.

“There would be odd numbers.” Cho Hee thought to herself.

“Jiyeon unnie, there are odd numbers!” One of the juniors shouted.

Cho Hee eventually stepped out from her group with a forced smile. She was the odd one out, she just knew.

“I think I will skip this.” She offered.

“Cho Hee can join my group.”

“This.” She thought as she looked up and met eyes with Hoya.

“I’m tired today.” He said.

The crowd made teasing noises at Hoya’s words and Cho Hee could only keep her eyes on the ground.

“It’s okay, Hoya. I will not be dancing. Now, this group would have the right number.” Jiyeon assured.

“So now, the dance battle begins.” She announced as she pressed the play button.

The blasting music made some of the dancers jump with their hands in the air and shook their bodies to the beat. Some were doing waves while others took turns for the show down. Cho Hee thought it felt good to be part of the crowd. An unknown force tugged at the ends of her lips. Then, she felt someone push her from behind. She ended up standing in her middle, facing Hoya. Hoya smirked at her before getting to the ground, doing the jackhammer. The crowd cheered louder and Cho Hee thought she heard people chanting her name.

In a confused state of mind, she did the best dance she could manage. Hoya got up in a swift movement and did some flares, changing his hands with the right momentum. The crowd stepped back to allow his legs to have some space in the air. Jiyeon held back a smile as she thought the dance machine was putting in too much effort today. It seemed as if he was trying to impress someone. Hoya’s oversized shirt slipped a little during the dance, exposing his abs to the world. Cho Hee had the best view in that sense. Flustered, she stopped dancing almost immediately. She became a moving red apple, trying to retreat into the crowd. The next member from the group made the ‘Slit-throat’ action before dancing with force. Cho Hee felt her heart beating along with the fast beats of the music.

“Impressive.” One of the guys told Hoya.

He smiled and waved it off as his eyes slowly trailed to a certain someone.

Chapter 23: This whole story took me on an emotional rollercoaster since I can relate to it. Honestly, it being the outcast. I'm glad that Cho Hee got the happy ending that she deserves and wanted. Life can be so cruel sometimes. This truly deserves an upvote. Thank you for writing this story. Lots of love! :)

Chapter 5: I just wondered if this life-dancing things really fit her in. It amazed me on how she could bear everything to this point. If I were her, I might be turning myself into other things that would fit me in at least. I sort of experienced this kind of things too, feeling useless and sometimes being mocked due to my physical features that obviously limiting myself from doing sports. So I chose not to involve in certain things. I partially understood Cho Hee; she was like a reflection of me nevertheless I was in a better society than her. I remembered I read this before as it was so relatable and very heart-warming. And inspiring too :)

Chapter 24: I can't find any words for what I'm feeling right now. Honestly,I've never expected to read such an amazing well written story and without the typical perfect skinny girl who gets the hot guy. I love the plot and cried because I know this feeling, not to that extend but I know it and it's so painful that I can't describe it at all. I love you for finding the right words without making it sound cheesy or weird. I'm glad that I've read your story, glad that I'm able to say that I enjoyed it a lot.

Chapter 23: It's soo sad~ I love this ending though~ finally she can be happy and others treat her well than her other life. It's kind of sad boz they only look for appearance only. It's not wrong to be fat though. The sorrow feelings is always tugging me while reading this. It's just so unfair. I wish I could be her friend and comfort her. Anyways you do a great job making this story!!~ stay well and good luck!!~^^ Later~ Gonna catch your other stories~
