Step by Little Steps
Stuck in the Middle“I can’t believe you were planning to smuggle him on the plane.”
“Shut it,” I said as Kris kept on complaining how I could lose such a small fury object. I sighed as we rushed through the crowded streets. “He has to be around here somewhere. I mean, how hard could it be to find him?”
“Uh, really hard? He’s lost somewhere in the middle of Seoul city, you elf.”
Ouch. Well, that hurt.
I continued to call out for that fur ball. Usually he would come straight to me, but not in this type of place. He could hardly even hear my voice within all the others that were roaming around.
“Dragon? Here, boy.” I called for him again and again and again without fail.
Finally, Kris stopped looking.
“Face it,” he said. “He’s gone.”
“No,” I snapped. “He’s around here, I know it, and I’m not hopping on that plane until I find him.” I turned back around and continued to look for the little kitten. “Dragon! Hey, boy! Where are you?”
I could tell Kris was already tired and he was sighing. But even though, he followed my every move, walking just behind me as I carried on.
Kris crossed his arms and stopped when I did. “This is your fault.”
I could’ve slapped him for the second time. He was already getting on my nerves, and I surely didn’t need that at the moment. When I pretended to raise my fist, he jerked back. Just scaring him was enough amusement to help me get back on track.
At first I thought I could do it. But in the end, I fell on the pavement and stared out at the road.
“Dragon. My baby. Where is he?” I mumbled.
“I told you. You’re so careless.”
Okay, now I’m really mad.
“Shut it,” I said. “Just shut it.”
He didn’t seem to be listening at all. “You know, it’s because you don’t have a heart maybe that’s why he just left. Or else he’d be stuck in California with you.”
“I said, shut it.”
“He must’ve thought he could run away. Poor kitty.”
I rose from the ground. “I swear it, Kris, I’ll kick your back to Canada if you don’t shut that mouth!”
“Ooh, the little elf is angry. I’m so scared.”
If I was an actual dragon I would’ve smoked him to ash by now, ‘cause for a moment I really thought smoke was coming out of my nostrils.
“Sheesh, can’t you just be nice to me for a second?” I said.
“You mean, like how you gave me that farewell slap?”
He did not just bring that up to taunt me.
I actually thought I was going to slap him, because my hand was already raised. But I noticed my gaze falling, and so did my raised hand.
