Stuck in the Middle
“E-Erika?”
Yoona poked my cheek.
“Is she okay?” I heard one of the girls ask. It sounded like Hyoyeon.
“Can she move?”
“Is she even breathing?”
I felt a pair of hands on my weak shoulders, and Sooyoung stared at me. “Sweetie?” She patted my cheeks.
Then Sunny pushed her aside, grabbing my face with both her hands and blowing loudly in my face, “WAKE.UP!”
Nothing worked, and the girls grew worried and curious.
When I’d arrived and knocked on their door Taeyeon led me in, and I entered without a word, my face as pale as ever.
“She looks like she’d just been traumatized,” said Tiffany who came up to sit beside me. She placed her hand on mine. “Rika?”
Suddenly the front door opened.
Jessica’s voice thundered throughout the living room. “I’m back!”
I still didn’t move, and Jessica was surprised when she saw me.
“Oh, Rika, you’re here.” She sounded calm, but she tossed her bag on the floor with a loud thump.
“You okay, Sica?” Seohyun asked her.
Jessica’s face was impassive. “Yeah, of course.” But her jaw was tight. Everybody in the room could sense that something was wrong, and not just with me. It was as if the Jung sisters were all going through some kind of phase that only the three of us could understand. Jessica turned to me. “I should ask Rika that. You alright there?”
“She’s been like this ever since she came,” Sooyoung explained.
“Do you want anything? A drink or something?” Yoona asked me.
“I’d like to go and drown myself,” I said. Yoona and Tiffany fell back, eyes wide in shock, even Sunny.
Jessica’s brows furrowed. “Yo,” she said. “What’s up with you?”
I finally snapped back to reality and heaved a deep sigh. “Nothing. I’m just a little sick,” I told her, which was true. “Krystal brought me to the clinic today. I think it’s already time for me to take my meds.”
