Stuck in the Middle
Once I was back in the dorm I went straight to the empty couch and flopped down. It was hard and stiff, but I had gotten used to it. Dragon jumped awake from his nap. He climbed over to my side, sniffing my hair while I recollected my thoughts. From now on no more basketball for me. Especially not with the demonic giant. All I needed now was sleep.
“ERIKAAAAAAAAA!”
A loud wail, and an attack on my back. I choked and Dragon fell off, dangling on the edge of the couch.
I tried to inhale. “Y-Yoon—”
“You’re back!” Yoona grinned as she finally got off me. She was beaming brighter than ever.
From the corner, Jessica popped up, arms crossed. She was studying me from head to toe.
“You look slumped,” she said after a minute.
“So I do,” I said sarcastically, still feeling the pain. But I could tell it was going to be worse the next morning.
“Are you going to sleep?” Yoona asked me.
“Well—”
“Good,” she said. “Get some rest. We’ll need to wake up early for tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?”
She pouted. “We’re going to the buffet, remember? Don’t tell me you forgot.”
“No, course not,” I said, smiling up at her.
“Don’t sleep in, okay?” she teased. “Oh! And I’m going to plan your outfit!”
“Outfit?”
She was already up on her feet. “Gotta look gorgeous for a girls’ day out,” she said. “I know just the perfect thing for you to wear!” She went skipping down the hall to her room, giggling all the way.
I turned to Jessica. “Wow. She’s really into it.”
“Well, it’s actually been a while since all of us been out for a girls’ day, so just try to look happy,” Jessica informed as she came forward to sit down on the empty spot beside me. I was picking Dragon up from the edge of the couch when she said, “So you found Kris.”
Her words almost made me drop Dragon back on the floor.
