Is love really necessary? I mean a life with no boyfriend for 21 years, is there a problem with that? Sure, I'm not like those normal girls who crave a boyfriend or a soul mate; but, I have my reasons. I live with a family where my parents care more about my career and grades—they say that love will get in the way of my studies and I must say that I kinda agree with them. I’ve been studying all my life and I’ve finally got accepted into one of the most prestigious schools: Soshi University. I was ranked top in the class and was praised by others. Of course I would, studying was my life.

I wasn’t one of those lonely, nerdy losers though; I had my group of friends with me too. Sunny, Sooyoung, Seohyun, Yuri, and Yoona. We’ve been friends for a number of years, and I love them! We have our fun sometimes and we make the best of it~ The only thing that they keep pestering me about was my love life. Like seriously they won’t stop bothering me! Yuri and Yoona always tease me about having no boyfriend and I get tired of hearing the same things every day. “When will you get a boyfriend?” or “You don’t want to grow up all alone do you?” I just ignore them nowadays. All this talk about love and relationships isn’t my forte.

Second year in Soshi University starts today and there are two new transfer students. I can’t help but feel anticipated because it was rumored that they were from the US and they were half Korean. I was born in the US and had to move to Korea due to parent’s business reasons when I was 12. I was the only one in my group who could speak English fluently and so if I befriend them we could talk in English together~ As I was recollecting my thoughts, class was about to start and the teacher snapped me out of my stream of consciousness when the two new students entered the class…

The first student who entered was a quite petite girl, a little shorter than me. She had smooth skin and blonde hair that was a little curled at the ends. She didn’t seem too friendly as I glanced at her face; she had a very icy glare that sent chills down my spine. She was staring at the whole class which made the atmosphere quite chilly and awkward. I must admit though, she had pretty features as well. She stood out because of her blonde hair of course and her face was flawless (despite the icy glare).

What caught my eye was when her expression changed to a calmer one when another student entered the room. I couldn’t tell how he looked because he was still by the door, until the blonde girl called out to him to enter the room, “Taengoo-ah! Come in already!” The blonde girl pouted a little which was kind of cute I must say~

The boy entered the class and was scowling a little. His face seemed a little distant and expressionless, not much different compared to the blonde one. He was a few inches taller than the blonde girl, (taller than me obviously) but he had such a baby face. He was really cute though, his hair was a medium cut and his bangs covered the most part of his forehead. He flashed a smile to the blonde girl which showed his bright teeth and dimples off to the side of his cheek. I admit that I was caught a little off guard. I didn’t know that I happened to be staring at him until his dark brown orbs glimpsed at me which made me quickly look away timidly. I wasn’t sure why I did that really. I was confused at the moment…I looked back up to the flawless couple who were standing in front of the class and was anticipating their introductions.

Our teacher, Ms. Park politely told the two students to introduce themselves in front of the class.

“Hi. My name is Jung Jessica.” The blonde girl said quite bluntly and short which caused the whole class to stiffen. Jessica just shrugged it off and turned to the boy next to her; and again her expression changed to a brighter one. I was observing the closeness between the two which made me suspicious. I shrugged the feeling off and listened intently to the boy’s intro.

“Hey, my name is Kim Taeyeon. Nice to meet you.” He said and smiled a dorky grin which received a few “Awws” from the students. I couldn’t help but smile a little to myself and wonder if I can get along with him.

I felt someone staring at me, so I looked up and saw Taeyeon looking at me again. I looked away due to my high level of shyness and couldn’t help but feel a little insecure about him.

My face was a little hot and I felt a little excited for this new year of college with these transfer students. To experience this weird feeling I’m getting is definitely something strange to me. I couldn’t tell what it was. I’m pretty sure this isn’t love at first because I don’t believe in that stuff. It’s probably just a feeling of anticipation because they can both speak English like me. Yeah, that must be it.
