“Why do I even have to learn their names and personalities? It’s not like we’ll actually interact with them upclose” You complain while leaning back into your chair. You and your roommate were halfway through the 5^th “BTS Try not to laugh” video on Youtube, and it was getting to be a little too much to take in one go. There was always so much randomness going on that you found it all hard to keep track, especially because you could barely differentiate the members yet. 

“Minchan, I told you, I got the VIP tickets. We get to go backstage and meet them. Besides, I’m just trying to convert you into an ARMY, you'll join the thousands of us all over the world who wholeheartedly support BTS” She slyly smiles. She had already shown you a bunch of their Vlives and all kinds of videos that exposed how dorky they were. Not to mention all their MVs and dance practice videos that revealed their talents. Although it was against your will, you couldn’t help but be somewhat amazed at how different they were on and off stage. To you, it made idols much more interesting when they had different sides to their personalities.

“I think you’re overhyped about this. Even if we do see them backstage it’ll be like a 5 second ‘Hi, thank you all for coming to the show. We hope you enjoyed your time here’ type of thing. It’s not like their actually going to treat us like close friends.” You look at your roommate with a bored face. You hoped that she could at least tell you were trying to become a fan, but it's just not one of those things that can be forced. It was probably better if she just let you fall for them by discovering their charms yourself, but then again, you were in a sort of time crunch because the concert day was closing in rapidily. 

“Oh, but you haven’t seen how they interact with fans at fansigning events. BTS treat every ARMY like we are special to the point of girlfriend status.” She excitedly clicks on a fancam video focused on one of the members specifically. She bites her lip to supress a squeal even though she's probably replayed the video a million times. You lean in to get a closer look to see if you could recognize the member featured in the video.

So far, the ones who went by Rap Monster and Suga were the only two you could easily spot because their features stood out more. The rest just kind of looked like every other Korean celebrity in the industry. But of course your roommate would choose one of the members who fit the Korean standard of beauty more, just to make life harder for you.

“Ugh, why didn’t you choose an easier member?” You complain, with an annoyed huff. You watch as the member in the video intertwines his fingers with the fan in front of him. He beams at her with a wide smile and says something to her that you can’t make out from the fancam. You had to admit once again that he was quite handsome, and you suddenly remembered this guy from the “Save Me” video your roommate showed you earlier. He was the one wearing a white shirt and was dancing in the middle most of the time from what you could tell. “Oh gosh, what was his name again? It’s right on the tip of my tongue, I swear” You look to your roommate for help, deperately trying to recall the name that you'd probably heard as many times as your roommate has mentioned BTS, but for some reason it was escaping you. "Sunggyu...JunKi...JinHyuk...Jung-"

“It’s Jungkook” She says rolling her eyes. “How could you not remember the Golden Marknae?” She pretends to give you a disappointed look, but it quickly turns into a smile. “This means more videos!!” She says excitedly, bouncing on the bed that you two were both curled up on. 

“Seriously?” You ask with an unwilling tone. “Can’t we take a break for today? I’m so confused right now, I don’t think I can learn them all in one day.” You scratch your head, seeing flashes of BTS video clips swimming around in your head. 

“What are you talking about? I learned all of them in a couple of minutes when I first became a fan, and you’re smarter than me, so it should be a piece of cake for you” She continues to click on videos. “Just remember, you already know RapMon and Suga. You should also know V is the one with a distinct voice and my bias, but these guys are always wrecking my bias list, so that’s probably not helpful.” She continues to think. “I think you’re going to like Kookie the most. He’s seems to be the type of guy you would like. That is, once you get around to remembering his name” She grins slyly and slaps you on the shoulder.

“What makes you think that?” You ask surprised. You had no idea how she could come up with that kind of conclusion when you couldn’t even tell the members apart yet.

“Oh, I just have a feeling.” She winks at you.

“Isn’t he the youngest though?" You ask, recalling that she just addressed him as the 'golden maknae'. "How old are these guys anyways? I feel like it’s inappropriate for us to idolize them if they are much younger than we are.” You look at her questioningly, finally finding something legit to complain about, or so you thought. 

“Relax, only 3 of them, V, Jimin, and Jungkook are younger than us, and not even by that much, except maybe Jungkook. RapMon and JHope were born in the same year as us, and Jin and Suga are older.” She says reassuringly. “Junkgook was born in 97...but age is only a number.” She laughs, covering with her hands.

“And you think I’ll like a guy who’s 3 years younger than me?!” You ask incredulously, hoping up from the bed in exasperation.

"Hey, you were the one who said they were only idols. It’s not like I’m saying you’ll consider dating him. I’m just saying he matches your ideal type pretty well,” She giggles agian, watching your overreaction which suddenly seems ridiculous and out of place compared to your bored nonchalance earlier.

You relax a little, coming back to your senses. You didn’t know why you were getting so worked up. She was right, it’s not like she was saying you would like him as a boyfriend. “But how do you even know what my ideal type is? Heck, I don’t even know what my ideal type is.” You ask her suddenly realizing you guys have never even had a conversation about guys, let alone having told each other what traits you look for in a guy.

“Well, I’m just basing it off of your own personality. You’re athletic, pretty, smart, and you’re pretty much good at anything you do. Not to mention, you are super competitive.” She smiles, proud at her own analysis.

You raise your eyebrow once again. “And so, this Jungkook guy and I have similar personalities? Or are you trying to say opposites attract and he’s non-athletic, not very good looking, dumb, and a push over?” You ask in a joking way. You were pretty sure it was not the latter, but you had the urge to push your roommates buttons.

She gasps and punches you lightly. “Don’t you dare say that about our Kookie. He’s one of the most talented idols in the industry, and can you not see his face that is utter perfection?!?!”

“Ok, Ok geez, I was just joking. Calm down, girl” You try to ease the situation. You turn back to the computer screen that is now playing the live performance of their song “Spring Day”. They all looked really beautiful in their aesthetically pleasing baby blue and white clothing, and the dance was very artistic. You couldn’t help but have you gaze suddenly land on the one called Jungkook, or as your roommate liked to call him "Kookie". There was something about the way he danced and his facial expressions that made him seem very manly despite his age, but then you thought back to the fansign video and recalled how cute he was in that video. You really couldn’t understand how a guy could balance being manly and cute like that.

“So what's your opinion on ‘Spring Day’?” You roommate suddenly asks, snapping you out of your thoughts.

“Oh ugh, it’s good” You say nodding, feeling a little dumbfounded. That was the first moment you had been actually really concentrated on a BTS video, and it takes you off guard when your roommate snaps you out of a trance-like state. 

“Great!” She beams. “Wait until you see ‘Not Today’. Their charisma will blow you away.”
