“Oh man, I swear I’m getting too old for this” Jin says as he drops to the floor. “When are we getting a break? I won’t be able to take it any longer.”

 

The 7 BTS members were just finishing up dance practice, and they were all covered in sweat.

 

“Hyung, we need to do well for this special fan performance,” JHope says. “ I know we haven’t performed ‘Butterfly’ in a while, but the dance should be easy compared to most of our other songs.”

 

JHope wipes the tiny beads of sweat from his forehead gently with a towel.

 

“It’s not the dance. It’s his aging body” Jungkook laughs.

 

“Ya!” Jin shouts, sitting up and glaring at Jungkook. The young maknae is still smiling mischieviously. “You don’t think you’ll reach my age one day?”

 

“But do you realize how old you’ll be by then?” Jungkook retorts.

 

“Savage” Suga whispers, and all the members start laughing.

 

“Enough of this chit chatting kids. Let’s get ready for class,” RapMon says while standing up.

 

The members make their way to the door.

 

“Hyung, did our manager tell you any details about this special performance event?” V asks RapMon as they make their way to take showers and freshen up.

 

“He says it’ll be like a mini concert and a fansign afterwards.” RapMon replies.

 

“Ah” V nods understandingly.

 

“Is that a new perfume?” Jimin asks while curiously looking over to Jungkook who holding a glass bottle. V and RapMon turn to look in Jungkook’s direction.

 

“I’ve had this for a while, I just haven’t had a chance to use it yet” Jungkook replies nonchalantly.

 

“Until now” V adds, grinning subtly.

 

“What is that supposed to mean?” Jimin asks, clearly confused.

 

“He’s saying, Jungkook saved that scent for a special occasion” RapMon explains, while smiling.

 

“But we’re just going to class-“ Jimin stops mid-sentence, realizing what the “special occasion” was, and his lips slowly curve into a smile.

 

“You guys are overthinking it” Jungkook says, slamming his locker shut. “I’m just experimenting with new scents, that’s all”

 

“Whatever floats your boat” V says, while walking away. Jimin follows suit and leaves Jungkook with Rap Monster.

 

“Jungkook-ah, you don’t need to hide things from us,” RapMon says. “I’ve been in your situation before, when I was your age.”

 

“Namjoon hyung, it’s really nothing. You guys and ARMYs are the most important thing in my life now.” Jungkook reassures.

 

RapMon walks over and pats Jungkook on the shoulder. “You’re still young, you’ll find your way.” He walks towards the door, but before he walks out, he turns around. “By the way, that scent really suits you.”

 

Jungkook smiles at RapMon’s comment, and quickly packs his books into his backpack.

 

 

…

 

 

“Ok, so we’re moving on to lesson 3 today.” You announce when all 7 members have arrived at the classroom.

 

“Sungsaengnim, will class be cancelled next week because of our special performance?” JHope suddenly asks, raising his hand and asking before you even called on him.

 

“Ugh..” You were caught off guard by his question, and the manager didn't even tell you about their special performance. All he said was that you might need to translate during a fansign next week. “Do you mean the fansign event?” You ask.

 

“Fansign?” JHope says, confused.

 

“It’s a performance and fansign” RapMon says, clearing up the situation.

 

“Well, I would assume there would be no class then” You say, and proceed to teaching the lesson.

 

When class ended, the 3 rappers, Rap Monster, Suga, and JHope quickly leave to go to the recording studio.

 

You were about to pack up when Jungkook suddenly walks up to you.

 

“Is there anything I should prepare before our one-on-one session tomorrow?” He asks.

 

You were about to answer when you suddenly notice a very pleasant scent in the room. It distracted you for a few seconds, but you managed to reply normally.

 

“Well, if you have time, you can read over lesson 4” You say. “But I know you’re busy, so I’m not expecting you to memorize the dialog or anything.”

 

Jungkook nods and leans in closer to you. Your heart begins to pound faster again.

 

“I’m going to work hard and learn English fast, for ARMYs” He says, while looking you straight in the eyes. “I made a promise to International ARMYs that I'll be able to communicate with them in English, and I'm planning on keeping that promise. ARMYs matter to me more than anything else” He adds, looking very determined.

 

You nod, yet again impressed by his determination. This side was the other side of Jungkook, the side that contrasted with his boyish derpyness, the side that showed up during dance practice and song recordings, the side which was a manifestation of his passion and competative will. The side that snapped you right back into reality, knowing that this boy was someone out of reach. Unattainable. Someone who had wings that would take him to the sky. And you weren't about to keep him from flying with your selfish feelings. 

 

Jungkook just smiles and smoothly turns away back to his desk. You get another whiff of the same scent you smelled earlier, it was a fruity, floral scent that smelled very clean. It was then you realize that it came from Jungkook.

 

“See you at the event next week, noona!” Jimin says while waving good-bye to you as he exits the classroom.

 

“Ya, why are you addressing sungsaengnim like that?” Jin says surprised.

 

“Class ended” Jimin replies. “Are you jealous that you can’t call her that, hyung?” Jimin laughs.

 

“Aish,” Jin just shakes his head. “It’s always about my age isn’t it?”

 

“You guys worked hard,” You shout back. “Good luck at the performance.”

 

 

…

 

 

“So what were you and Minchan secretly chatting about today?” V asks, while him and Jungkook were lying in their beds ready to sleep.

 

“It was nothing, I was just asking her about one-on-one class.” Jungkook replies, throwing a tennis ball up in the air and catching it.

 

“It didn’t seem like it was nothing. Don’t act like I didn’t see your face, you looked really serious,” V says, taking a deep breath. “You’re pushing her away aren’t you?” He asks.

 

“What are you talking about?” Jungkook says defensively. He didn’t know what had come over him then either. He didn’t mean to act so serious, but it just happened.

 

“You’re in denial” V finally says. “You don’t want to cave into your feelings, and you’re trying to compensate by showing her that she’s nothing compared to other things in your life.”

 

“Hyung, you’re making this sound way more complicated than it actually is.” Jungkook says. He tries to laugh it off, but deep down, he knows that V is right on a certain level. He was trying to ignore whatever he felt towards you. Whatever the case, he at least knew you didn’t have any feelings toward him, so he thought that as long as he controlled his own feelings, nothing would happen.

He’s an idol and you’re his language teacher. Stop it Minchan, stop getting nervous. You were giving yourself a mental pep talk before Jungkook arrived to the classroom. It was insane; you knew he was waaay out of your league, not to mention a young idol like him would never go for a normal person like you, especially not at the peak of his career. Why couldn’t you just let go of the slim chance that he would have any feelings for you at all? You cover your face with your hands just when Jungkook walks in.

 

“Sungsaengnim, are you ok?” Jungkook asks when he walks in and sees you in the state you were in.

 

“Ugh, oh yes, I’m fine. Let’s start” You reply forcing a smile onto your face. You were trying really hard not to look him straight in the eyes. He wasn’t in his school uniform today, but instead dressed in an oversized white T-shirt, jeans, and brownish yellow boots.

 

“I looked over lesson 4, but there are some parts I don’t understand.” Jungkook says as he pulls his textbook out of his backpack.

 

“How can I help?” You say, opening your textbook to the same page.

 

“It’s not about the vocabulary or grammar, it’s about college” Jungkook says. “The characters in the book are introducing themselves and their majors, but I don’t understand why some of them say their majors are ‘undecided’”

 

“Oh right, well in the U.S. you can enter college and decide your major later.” You explain.

 

Jungkook nods to show that he understands, but you could tell he was still a little confused.

 

“Then what do you do before you decide what you want to study?” Jungkook asks after thinking for a while.

 

“Most students just take the core classes that are required for every major” You continue to explain.

 

Jungkook nods again. Seeing at how curious he was made you realize, again, how young he still was. Sometimes you forgot he just graduated high school not too long ago because of how mature he was on stage.

 

You guys continue class, until you realize that it’s lunch time. Jungkook was really focused on studying, you could tell since he lost track of time.

 

“I think that’s good for today” You say looking at the clock. “You worked hard”

 

Jungkook finally looks up and realizes class is over. “Ah ye, thank you sungsaengnim,” He says while closing his book.

 

Just before he leaves the classroom, he turns around to see you packing your stuff alone.

 

“Would you like to eat with me?” He asks, making you almost jump out of your chair at the sudden sound of his request. Jungkook swallows nervously, unable to believe those words actually came out of his own mouth.

 

“Ugh, s-sure” You stutter a bit. He nods and stands by the door to wait for you.

 

“It’s so late that the hyungs are probably finished with lunch and just playing video games in the lounge.” Jungkook explains as the two of you walk side by side.

 

Jungkook tells you to wait in the hall as he walks into the lounge to grab the packed lunches. You hear the other members asking Jungkook where he’s going, and Jungkook just replying with a simple “somewhere quiet”. They were all too focused on the video game to question him for more details.

 

“We’re going to eat somewhere else?” You ask curiously when he comes back out.

 

“There’s a place I like to go to relax” Jungkook replies. “Come on” He says, signaling for you to follow him.

 

You realize that he’s taking you up to the roof of the building. When you finally step out the door, you gape at the breathtaking view. The weather was really nice that day, the wind was a bit chilly but the sun was bright and warm.

 

“I like to come hear and clear my mind” Jungkook says while gazing out at the view of Gangnam and downtown Seoul. You could also see the iconic Namsan Tower further out in the distance.

 

“It’s beautiful,” You say, while taking in a big breath of fresh air.

 

“We can sit here,” Jungkook says.

 

You look over to see that there is a garden table with a few chairs among some potted plants.

 

Jungkook quickly unpacks his lunch and begins eating. You were trying not to stare, but he looked really adorable eating.

 

When he finished his sandwich, he noticed that you still had half of your left. You saw that he was eyeing the other half of your sandwich, but was probably being polite and suppressing his urge to ask if you were going to finish it.

 

“I’m getting pretty full,” You say. “Jungkook-ah, you should take the other half so it doesn’t go to waste.”

 

Jungkook’s face brightens up and he quickly grabs the other half of your sandwich.

“Thank you noona, I’ll eat it well,” He says before taking a big bite.

 

You suppress a giggle. It’s moments like these where it really hits you that this kid is still so young, and yet he’s spent the majority of his youth building an idol career. The two of you were from such different worlds, but right at this moment, you were sharing a relaxing meal together. It felt a bit surreal.

 

After the both of you finish eating, Jungkook leans back into his chair and stares at the view again.

 

“How long have you been living in Seoul?” Jungkook suddenly asks.

 

“I came here for college” You reply. “To be honest, I’m not that familiar with Seoul yet because I spent most of my time on campus.”

 

“Ah, I see” Jungkook nods. “I moved here when I entered BigHit, but ever since BTS debuted, I haven’t had many opportunities to explore either.”

 

“Oh, so you’re not from Seoul?” You ask surprised. You didn’t remember your roommate telling you where all the members were originally from, so you kind of surprised Jungkook when you asked.

 

“Jimin hyung and I are from Busan” Jungkook replies, turning to look at you now. “I thought that was information all ARMYs knew,” He says, raising an eyebrow. “Oh, but you’re a casual fan.” He directs his gaze back at the mountains in the distance.

 

You don’t know what to say next, so there was a moment of awkward silence. You start to wonder when Jungkook is going to suggest you guys go back downstairs.

 

“Have you seen the Japanese anime movie ‘Your Name’?” Jungkook suddenly asks.

 

You try to recall, and remember that you saw it a few months ago. Although you’re not really much of an anime fan, you remember a lot of people were raving about how good it was, so you and your roommate decided to check it out as well.

 

“Yes, I have” You answer. “It was a good movie.” You start to wonder why Jungkook would bring it up all of a sudden. Could it be for the reason you were thinking of? The movie was about love and destiny after all.

 

“Yeah, it was.” He agrees. “This place reminds me of the rooftop where Taki saw the comet.”

 

You feel a little disappointed at his reply. But at the same time, you were scolding yourself for thinking about those things. Why would Jungkook ask you about fate and love anyways? You guys weren’t even in the type of relationship for those topics to even be appropriate. You sigh, feeling disappointed and slightly annoyed that you let your thoughts run wild.

 

“Are you thinking about something?” Jungkook asks, noticing that you were silent for a long time.

 

“Oh no, I was just spacing out.” You lie.

 

Jungkook nods. “Well, we should probably head back. The hyungs will get worried.”

 

You agree, and the both of you head back down.
