It was now the UC seniors turn to perform with their own band composed of Taecyeon on drums, Jonghyun on lead guitar, Siwon on rhythm guitar, Chansung on bass, Nichkhun on violin, and Kyuhyun on vocals.

 

They sang a total of three songs.

While they were performing three of their professors watching backstage were having a conversation.

 

“Hey, remember when you said that the Upper Crust kids were just there for decadence? I think it’s more like hope and inspiration. You get the certain emotion from them. When they pick up their instruments, sing and perform their hearts out. They sort of make sense of your world.”, Prof. Turner spoke.

 

“Did I? Well you can’t exactly blame me. I’ve never seen anything like them since I started teaching; only in this Academy. I hated the hierarchy of high school; with kids getting bullied left and right by people at the top of the food chain. It’s ugly.”, Prof. Ramsey retorted.

 

“But- if I did say that. Then I take it back. Kids in this generation...”, she continued.

 

“Funny, but they remind me of an old Bible excerpt... ‘The Year of the Lord’s favor’. ”, Prof.V suddenly joined in.

 

“What do you mean?”, Prof. Turner inquired.

 

“If you’ll look around.. see those faces [points at the audience]. They stop and stare. You don’t just see admiration in their eyes. But you see freedom. It’s like for one day, everyone stops to enjoy the moment. Those kids with broken hearts, those kids with darkness in their eyes, those kids who mourn, are able to forget everything even if it’s just this one night. The Upper crust; this academy’s very own ‘oaks of righteousness’, exalting this school’s splendour.”, Prof. V explained to which his colleagues both nodded.

 

Just as the three professore were continuing their conversation, their voices were muffled by the loud screams of the audience chanting “ENCORE! ENCORE! ENCORE!”

A group of freshmen were seated at the middle enjoying the show. A girl was smiling at the guy beside her.

 

“What? What are you looking at?”, Tao turned towards Dani who was smiling at him.

 

“You’re enjoying the concert.”, Dani said, with her smile still in place.

 

“An-anniyo...”, Tao tried to lie.

 

“Dude, we all know how hard you’re trying to not to enjoy the show- and guess what? You’re failing big time!”, joined in Derrick with a stupid smile on his face. He was seated on the other side of Tao.

 

“Shut up! And wipe that stupid grin on your face!”, Tao elbowed him.

 

Their small interaction caught their other friends attention. They all smiled at the same time.

 

“So what? Can’t I be happy for once.. They’re.. actually not that bad.”, Tao retorted.

 

“Whatever you say Tao.”, Dani smirked.

 

“WHOO!!! ONE MORE!!”, Eric shouted right after the band finished their last song.

It was now time for the final set of performances from the UC juniors.

“All right! So that sums this years-”, Prof. Ju was about to speak when Prof. Kang interrupted.

 

“Wait! It’s not over yet. There seems to be a surprise performance!”, Prof. Kang said.

“1, 2, 3-”, Aiden started placing his hands at the center.

 

“Upper crust!”, to which his friends finished.

 

“What are you-“, Tiffany asked when she saw their maknaes backstage, walking back to the center of the stage behind the closed curtains.

 

“You guys aren’t the only ones with a surprise performance unnie.”, Sulli said before winking towards her seniors.

 

Aiden passed by Krystal as they were returning backstage.

 

“Y-you did really good...”, Aiden manage to say when they met for few a seconds.

 

“Thanks.”, Krystal replied, with her back facing Aiden.

 

“Aiden let’s go!”, Jiyoung called him.

 

After a while they finally heard “... Ladies and gents, the UC sophomores!”

 

The scene was kind of like girls hanging out at the park sitting down on the bench with her friends listening to some music. All of a sudden three boys show up one holding an old school boom box (Henry) and another holding a basketball (Aiden), came to hang out on the bench at the other side of the park.

Henry stood up from their side of the park and asked Aiden to pass the ball to him, he suddenly made these dribbling tricks trying to impress the girls.

All the girls stood up and started to dance.

The music suddenly stopped and the guys can be seen turning on their boombox. Taemin, Henry and Aiden stood up and started to dance. Taemin was at the center of their position.

The girls were all smiles as the guys danced for them. But they acted like they’re still unconvinced. The previous song the girls were singing returned. They stood up and went towards the guys. Trying to taunt and push them aside.

The guys suddenly decided to fight back or more of dance back.

It was now Henry’s turn to dance freestyle while Aiden continued singing.

Everybody stood up after their performance and gave the final standing ovation if the night. The rest of the entire UC came on stage and bowed towards the audience. This also signaled the end of the entire concert.

 

“The year of the Upper Crust’s favour.”, the Prof. Turner said to himself as he watched them on stage while they gave their thanks to everyone who helped and came. Again he was contemplating on what Prof. V said earlier about the UC members.

 

‘If you’ll look around.. see those faces... They stop and stare’

 

He saw all the faces of his students from the audience; both young and old had smiles on their faces.

 

‘You don’t just see admiration in their eyes. But you see freedom...’

 

Again he wondered what Prof. V meant.

 

“What kind of freedom?”, he thought to himself.

 

‘ It’s like for one day, everyone stops to enjoy the moment...’

 

He saw a group of freshmen seated at the middle. He recognized a particular student. He knew him by face. Prof. V and Prof. Ramsey always talked about this kid who always seemed gloomy, like there’s no happiness in his world. He heard them talking about how much potential this particular kid has and that he just lacked guidance.

 

‘ Those kids with broken hearts, those kids with darkness in their eyes, those kids who mourn, are able to forget everything even if it’s just this one night.’

 

“Tao.”, he muttered remembering the name of the kid. He knew him. Everytime they pass by each other at school the kid always carries around a dark aura around him. He just seems calm when he’s around his friends, but his eyes tell a different story.

 

‘The Upper crust; this academy’s very own ‘oaks of righteousness’, exalting this school’s splendour.’

 

He looked back at Tao and saw him smilling with his friends. His arms wrapped around a certain girl’s shoulder who looke a lot like UC senior’s Krystal.

 

For the first time, he looked... at peace.

One Republic - Stop and Stare

 

This town is colder now, I think it's sick of us
It's time to make our move, I'm shakin off the rust

Have you ever heard the expression 'The best things in live are free'?

 

Well that expression is true.

 

“You guys wait up! I need a ride man.”, Sehun shouted at Tao and Dani who were walking at the school’s parking lot side by side.

 

“Where are the others?”, Dani asked her twin brother.

 

“They already left. Kat and Daniel are hitching a ride with Eric, while Coleen’s hitching a ride with Derrick and Kylie.”, Sehun explained.

 

“How about Hayoung?”, Tao asked.

 

“Riding with Fern and Art?”, Dani joined with a question earning a nod from her brother.

 

“Aw aw aw!”, Dani screamed, while Tao just complained “Dude. Watch it.” Sehun suddenly wrapped his arms on both of their necks putting his weight on the both of them.

 

“[Sigh] Today was a good day, right?”, Sehun asked happily.

 

“Yeah.”, Dani and Tao said with a smile while looking at each other, before turning away with blushes on their faces.

 

“You guys did great by the way! On your performance. Way to represent man.”, Sehun praised them for their band performance.

 

“Like you said. It was a good day.”, Tao replied, causing Dani to look at him with a smile.

 

Every once in a while people rise above themselves. Sometimes they surprise you and sometimes they fall short.

 

 

“There’s gonna be one less lonely girl~” Taecyeon sung while holding hands with Yoona.

 

“One less lonely girl~”, while Chansung continued teasing their maknaes.

 

The UC were going to their respective rides that were parked beside one another.

 

“Yah! Stop it Hyungs.”, Henry complained.

 

“Yeah! They were cute!”, Tiffany fought back while holding onto Siwon.

 

“So cute they made my fingers and toes curl up.”, Minho joined in the teasing as he walked towards his car with Hara wrapped around his waist.

 

“You guys really surprised us you know.”, Onew spoke.

 

“Cinha. We really didn’t know you guys had a special performance.”, Luna added.

 

“You guys surprised us too Unnie!”, Jiyoung said while holding onto Aiden’s arm.

 

“Yeah. You guys we’re [Yawns] great un-nie.”, Sulli spoke looking really tired so Taemin held onto her a little bit closer.

 

“All right. That’s the signal. It’s time to go home. It’s past Sulli’s bedtime.”, Nicole joked making her friends laugh.

 

As the gang were saying their goodbyes to each other, Jonghyun suddenly spoke, “Krys, you coming?”

Aiden and Krystal met each other’s gaze before she answered back. “Y-yeah.”

 

Aiden hitched a ride with Minho and the others so he had no clue that Jonghyun offered Krystal a ride for today.

 

“Tae!”, Krystal called Taemin when she noticed he was still with Sulli.

 

“I guess that’s the signal. Bye Aiden.”, Jiyoung spoke.

 

“Oh, uh... Yeah... Bye.”, Aiden said while scratching his head.

 

Right before Jiyoung let go of his hand she suddenly gave him a kiss on the cheek. This wasn’t missed by Krystal who was just about to get inside the car.

 

Aiden of course blushed, saying goodbye again “Bye” before finally turning around and walking to his brother’s car along with Taemin and Henry (Taemin’s neighbor).

Aiden was seated behind Krystal (passenger seat); Taemin was on the middle while Henry sat behind Jonghyun (driver’s seat).

 

“I saw that.”, Jonghyun said pertaining to Aiden.

 

“What?”, Aiden was clueless.

 

“You and Jiyoung.”, Jonghyun said with a smile also clueless about the effect of what he’s bringing up towards Aiden and Krystal.

 

“Oh... That... It was nothing.”, Aiden said like it was nothing, but looking to see if Krystal will react.

 

“Nothing my . Was that you’re first kiss?”, Jonghyun spoke like it was nothing but Aiden stayed quiet.

 

“C’mon man. I know you. Talk to your big bro here.”, Jonghyun forced.

 

Jonghyun looked back at Aiden only to see him staring at his friends beside him then looking at Krystal.

 

“Look, if you’re embarrassed to talk about his in front of Krystal then don’t be. You’ve known her since you were like 9? She’s like you’re sister...”

 

Jong. Shut up... Just... stop speaking.  Krystal thought.

 

Hyung, stop this... Please. Not now.  Aiden thought, almost the same.

 

“... and Taemin and Henry are already asleep as soon as they sat down. So ‘cmon tell me. What’s going on with you guys?”, Jonghyun continued interrogating like the protective brother he is.

 

 “[Sigh] Hyung...”, Aiden spoke sounding a little bit like his begging.

 

“Fine... Arasso arasso... If you don’t wanna talk about it right now, I’m not gonna force you.”, Jonghyun spoke with understanding.

 

“Thanks Hyung... I’m sorry...”, Aiden said softly.

 

“[Sigh] Don’t you miss it?”, Jonghyun spoke turning to Krystal this time.

 

“Krys.”, he repeated went she wasn’t paying attention. She was just staring outside intently.

 

“Yeah?”, Krystal replied when she heard her name.

 

“Don’t you miss being in a relationship?”, Jonghyun bluntly asked.

 

“Huh? I-... ”, Krystal turned to Aiden and saw him looking outside and wearing his earphones.

 

She wasn’t aware that Aiden decided to wear them the moment Jonghyun brought up the topic of relationships.

 

“I don’t know...”, she continued but she was unaware of the frown on her face.

 

Aiden knew where his brother was going with this. He was smart, and perceptive. He knew how his brother still misses and maybe still has feelings for Krystal; given the fact that she was his first girlfriend, and that he hasn’t dated anyone else since. He knew somehow, Jonghyun wanted to know if he still had a chance or if they still have the chance of getting back together.

 

It was something Aiden never wanted to hear. Even the slightest possibility of Krystal saying yes would be the most painful thing ever. Or even if there wasn’t a chance of them getting back together he also didn’t want to know.

 

Krystal not having anymore feelings for his brother would give him hope. And that was another thing he didn’t wanna have. Knowing that would only confuse him of his own feelings for her.

 

It’s better not to know. Aiden thought.

 

When he turned to the front he saw her leaning her head towards the edge of the seat. He couldn’t help but observe her; the tip of her nose, to her perfect forehead... and her pink and plump lips.

 

Yet again, he was mesmerized by her beauty.

 

Krystal slowly turned her head at the back.

 

For countless of times now, their eyes met; this time, Aiden was the first to look away.

 

 

Life can be funny at times. It can push pretty hard; it can build you up and it can tear you down. But if you look close enough, you can find hope in the words of others, in the bars of a song or in the eyes of someone you love.

Seriously my longest chapter so far. 85 pages. :P

So, this chapter's basically inspired by the 'concerts of our lives'. Basically the best concerts you've gone to.

You know, when your favourite artist or band starts to sing. You feel like everything stops, and for a moment, you become one with hundreds of people listening to something you all enjoy and take in to heart.

And no matter how bad your day is or how much you're feeling eff'd up. Being in that concert, feels like everything makes sense for a while. Like, for a certain amount of time, you lose the thought of reality.

 

I dunno.. At least that's what I think. Or maybe I'm just crazy. Lol.

 

Anyway... I hope you guys enjoyed it. I really tried to make the concert as realistic as possible so forgive me if it's not up to your standards. But still, I really hope you guys enjoyed this chapter.
