“Yuri ah, how are you feeling? How is your head?” Mr. Kim walked up to his daughter’s best friend who he had considered as his second child and engulfed her in a tight hug. The tan girl smiled at his sweet gesture and hugged him back just as tight. She had been missing the old man so much as he was so busy with his business trips oversea.
“Oh my god, my baby is finally here.” Mrs. Kim who was busy cooking with her maids came out upon hearing the familiar voice, she wasted no time in joining in on the hug shared between her favorite people but not before pulling the grumpy Taeyeon in as well.
“You guys are so sweet.” Said the American girl who was standing by the door with her awkwardly shy cousin holding a basket of fruits and a batch of flowers. Jessica was scolding Tiffany in her head for saying something too soon. She was hoping to get at least a second to calm her nerve down and maybe getting rid of the sweat in her hands before the older couple deciding to give them a shake but her cousin had to break the sweet family’s moment and brought their attention on her. Not that Mr. and Mrs. Kim didn’t care about Tiffany but they had met her before so they were just comfortable with each other already. The young girl didn’t waste any time as she quickly wrapped the older woman in a tight hug but not before bowing 90 degrees toward both of them with Jessica followed suit. The older woman kindly compliments their cute dressed and how pretty they looked that evening but before Jessica could returned the compliment, Tiffany had already taken Mrs. Kim’s hand and led her into the kitchen as they both laugh happily together. Sometime she wished she could trade her personality with her younger cousin so that she could be as comfortable as her around the old couple but luckily they didn’t make it so hard on her. Thank god Taeyeon had such easy going family members, she thought.
“Baby, do you want something to drink?” The teacher was so lost in her thought that she failed to notice her girlfriend who came to stand beside her until the younger girl grabbed her hand in hers. The tan girl smiled at the obviously nervous girl, Jessica had been telling her over and over that it would be awkward for her to be here. She was worry if Taeyeon’s parents would take kindly to accepting the teacher student’s romantic relationship.
“Don’t worry too much. Umma just told me that she likes you a lot.” Yuri whispered in her ear but as playful as she was, she managed to stole a quick kiss on her cheek when the older couple wasn’t looking. Jessica really wanted to smack her hard for making her blush in such situation but she wouldn’t want Mrs. Kim to hate her for being violent toward her child.
“Don’t just stand there. Let’s take a sit, dinner is ready.” Mrs. Kim said, Jessica couldn’t believe how warm and sweet her voice was, even her own mother doesn’t sound that sweet when talking to her. The tan girl couldn’t help but laughed at her girlfriend, the American girl was easily impressed. From the moment they arrived at the Kim’s mansion to the time they arrived at the dinner table, Jessica looked impressed with everything around her. Yuri chuckled slightly at her even though the Kim’s mansion wasn’t new to her, she had to admit that it was effortlessly beautiful inside and out much like their hearts. Though the many mansions in her grandfather’s possession could kick this mansion to the back seat, none of them were as warm and loving.
“So Jessica, Taeyeon told me that you are teaching English at their school.” There it is, the parents talk that Jessica would never be ready for. She swallowed the lobster that she had put into , a moment ago it tasted like heaven but now it felt like a bitter medicine.
“Did these mischievous kids get you in any trouble?” Mrs. Kim continued, the nervous signed in relieve at her simple question. For a moment there, she thought something bad was going to happen. Feeling a hand grabbed hers under the table and reassuringly rubbing on it softly, Jessica was greeted with Yuri’s sweet smile.
“Of course not, Umma. Maybe in the past but right now we are the best students we can be.” Yuri replied earning a disgusting look from Taeyeon who mouthed to her “What are you talking about? I’m the only good student in this room.”
“Yeah Yuri had improved a lot auntie. As her teacher, I was very proud…” Jessica stopped talking after realizing how weird it sounded, she quickly grabbed the glass of water in front of her and dumped all its content down , she felt like she was on fire. How come nothing ever go right when meeting the parents? Tiffany was wrong, it was not a good idea at all to come here and humiliated herself like this.
“Umma, can you tell us about your Dubai trip? I’m dying to hear all about it.” Here it come, Tiffany saving the day with her infamous soft cutely voice. Mrs. Kim couldn’t help but fell for it all the time, Jessica thanked her aunt and uncle for making such an amazing baby before getting back to slowly eating her shame away with the lobsters.

“This is my room.” Jessica looked in awe at the spacious room in front of me, it was so big that you could play football inside with ease but the she didn’t have the time to admire anything as she was scared that their relationship was about to meet an obstacle.
“Yuri, I don’t think I make a good impression tonight. Your Umma would probably think I’m some type of weirdo who erted over teenagers by now.” The tan girl looked at her girlfriend who was pacing back and forth, she could only let out a laugh at her action. She is going to get tired soon if she won’t stop.

“Honey, please calm down.” Seeing that her girlfriend really made no sign of slowing down, the tall girl walked toward her and pulled her into a hug. The short girl dropped her head on her beloved student’s chest and exhaled her perfume, maybe this is the last time she could do so.
“I already told Umma everything. She expected you to be nervous but not this nervous. Don’t worry about all of those stupid teacher student stuff. We are just two people who are deeply in love with each other and we are not doing anything wrong. Now can we relax now? I wanted to show off my room to you.” The tall gave out a pout to her girlfriend suggesting that she was not at all happy with her being so stress out over something that haven’t happen yet. Jessica nodded agree, she should really just loosen up, she smiled as the tall girl took her hand and led her to sit on her bed. After they settled down, Jessica finally took the time to scan the room. There were a lot of modern decorations with some weird painting, a bunch of photo frame of what seemed like a family vacation and a lot and she did mean a lot of Mickey Mouth stuff animals which in no doubt belonged to her Mickey obsessed girlfriend. Oh she remembered finding out about Yuri’s love for the cartoon character on one of their date when she needed to call Tiffany and borrowed the young girl’s phone to do it only to be greeted with Mickey Mouth wallpaper with Mickey Mouse phone case. After that incident, she started to see Mickey on every items of Kwon Yuri, from the keychains of her motorcycle, the patches on her backpack, a sticker on her black helmet and even her socks. Needless to say, it took a lot of hard work for Jessica to stopped herself from getting jealous of an innocence animated character.
“Ah I’m sorry about those Mickey Mouse stuff toys, I swear I can sleep fine without them. I just want to leave them here so I can visit once in a while.” Yuri said knowing that her girlfriend haven’t gotten used to the fact that she has so many of those things yet.
“Wait, this is your room? You live here? I thought you live with your grandfather.” Jessica asked scanning her eyes along the many photos frame hanging on the wall, after a while she finally noticed the silent that came from the tan girl. She turned attention to her girlfriend, the young girl was sitting on the bed beside her but it looked like her mind wasn’t so near. What could the tan girl be thinking about so hard?
“Yuri, are you okay?” Jessica asked, Yuri who had just snapped back turned to give her a smile and told her that she was fine and there was nothing to worry about, but the older girl didn’t buy it one bit. She knew that the smile that currently on Yuri’s face wasn’t genuine but she wasn’t about to pried into something that her girlfriend wouldn’t want her to know yet, she had to respect her privacy.
“So are you going to answer my question?” When Yuri looked at her with a blank face, she knew then that the tan girl’s mind really did wander far away. “I asked if you live here?” She repeated the question to her hoping that this time she would pay attention.
“I wish I could live here but my grandfather won’t allow it, that’s why I have to get my own place so I could move out of his house.” Yuri said, she felt her girlfriend shifted her sit a little and when the older girl put her head on her shoulder and wrapped her arms around her waist, she finally smiled for real.
“I only come here once in a blue moon but Umma insisted on me having my own bedroom saying that I could make it as my hideout.” Jessica laughed, Mrs. Kim really did have a great sense of humor.
“And I did exactly as she said. Every time I was injured by my grandfather, I sneaked in here and stayed in the room under Taeyeon’s care so that Umma wouldn’t end up losing sleep worrying about me.”
“How often did that happen?” The older girl asked. She no longer putting her arm around Yuri’s waist, she had sit back up and paid her full attention to her lover. Seeing the tears that starting to formed on Yuri’s eyes, Jessica knew that it was a sensitive topic to the young girl, maybe she was sad thinking about how her family treated her, maybe she was embarrassed about her messy life or maybe she was mad at Jessica for prying and not in million years would she wanted the younger girl to feel any of those things.
“Look baby, you don’t have to answer if it makes you feel uncomfortable.”
“No, I don’t mind sharing everything with you. I just didn’t know where to start.” The tall girl said taking her girlfriend’s hands in hers. “Okay, I’m going to start from the beginning. You know on our first date when you asked me about my parents, I couldn’t tell you then but the truth is my dad died committing suicide to fight for his love and I was left with my grandfather by my mother since I was a child. Back then aunt Jina wasn’t that bad, she and her ex-husband loved me like I was their own child and Donghae used to be a lovable brother to me even little Minho used to follow me around. Those were the good old days. After I got older, it was become clearer to my aunt and cousins that I was a threat to them and that’s why thing becomes messy like it is today.” Yuri paused for a while letting Jessica took all the information in. “I missed my mom a lot when I was child, I sat in front of my grandfather’s mansion everyday hoping that one day she’ll come to take me back but as I grew older I learnt to despite her. Unlike my father who couldn’t come back no matter how much I prayed, my mother could yet she chose not to.” Jessica couldn’t believe her ears. How could a 17 years old living through all of those things? Without saying another word, she pulled the tall girl into a kiss, the tears that were threatening to fall from Yuri’s eyes finally came out and Jessica started crying too. She kissed Yuri deeper hoping that whatever it was that they had to go through in the future they will always stand by each other’s sides.
