Strangely affected

Together

Her

“Mom!” I called as I collected ingredients from the kitchen cupboards. “What else do I need to make a spicy chicken stew?”

She then comes into the kitchen with a bright grin on her face. “Aigoo~” She blushes. “Is my daughter making dinner today?”

“No, I’m making it for a monkey.”

“W-What?!” Her voice didn’t sound so happy. “What’re you making a spicy chicken stew for a monkey for?! Just throw them a banana and they’ll gobble it all up! Don’t you think your mom is more important than—“

“—here mom.” I interrupted her scolding and gave her some money. “Just order the food you want while I go out. Bye!”

“YAH YOU!”

I hurried out of the house with the ingredients in my hands.

The performance was done and I couldn’t help but to notice Monkey-boy walking out so quickly after talking with Sem, and I begin to curiously wonder as to where his family was.

“Sem,” I addressed as I went over to him. “Is Eunhyuk gone to find his parents?”

“Huh? Ah, no.” He replies in a solemn tone. “Although I don’t know the whole story but I’ve never met Hyuk’s parents nor have I heard him speak of it. I think … that’s something that he himself could only resolve. He must be very lonely at times like this.”

When I arrive at his apartment, he opens the door with an expressionless face and gestures me to come in. I couldn’t hear anyone talking nor was the television on. I couldn’t hear the lectures of a mother neither were there any playful violence from any siblings.  I didn’t see a father coming home from work. Anyone is able to tell from walking into this apartment, that there was no family love.

“What were you doing?” I asked, feeling the need to cut the tension in the room.

“Just sleeping.”

“Okay … uh, I’ll get started on the food then!”

“Mm.” He nodded and sat on a chair by the kitchen table.

I looked at him as I placed down the ingredients one by one. “You can continue sleeping if you want to, you know? This might take a while.”

“I prefer watching you cooking.”

“All right then …”

I awkwardly started taking out the vegetables and chicken. Even though my back was faced towards him, I could feel his eyes pressuring my spine.

“Yah, really!” I explode as I put the knife down--luckily. “Do you really have nothing better to do than watch me like that?”

“I’m keeping an eye on any poison that goes into my food.”

“Aish … then why’d you personally ask me too cook? I could’ve easily bought dinner for you!”

“It wouldn’t be the same,” He yawns. Is he still half asleep? “Let’s take dancing for example.” He then turns on the television where coincidentally, 2PM were performing on stage. “Now when you watch dancing, you can tell it’s good but when you dance yourself, you feel such great happiness right?”

“Yeah … but how does this relate to cooking?”

“Takeaway food is good, but homemade food is even better.”

I started to cut the vegetables again and continued with cooking, silent at his words. He somehow has the ability to make me speechless all the time. I could tell that he was still leering at me as I was taking out the pots and pans but I didn’t mind it this time. I can only assume that he doesn’t eat homemade food often since it’s clear, that he’s a lonely person. He only dedicates his love to dancing.

As time passed by, I was ready with the stew and placed it out in front of him, along with some bonus side dishes. I opened the lid of the main dish and a delicious smell inhaled into my nose.

He then took a bite and I watch him intensely. He raised his eyebrow as his eyes stared back at me.

“What?”

“Is it good?” I questioned with hope sparkling in my eyes.

“It’s all right.”

I smiled with glee and dig in.

Him

She looks around the apartment as she chews her food.

“What do you want to ask?”

She turns back to me and swallows her food. She was surprised that I was able to read her mind—although it was more like reading her face, like an open book.

“It’s just … there aren’t any pictures of your family and all …”

I continue looking down at my food. “I might as well tell you now to break your curiosity.” I exhaled a deep breath and began. “Truth is, my parents despise me dancing, especially my dad. He just wanted me to find a stable job, something in an office I guess … but I just couldn’t. It wasn’t what I wanted, so I ended up leaving my parents … I just love dancing and maybe some day … well … I can be a choreographer.”

I lift my eyes up to hers now and they’ve changed. Her curious big brown eyes weren’t tense anymore and a smile spread across her face. It’s never been a big problem for me to break eye contact, but for some reason, I couldn’t remove myself from looking at her with no words spoken from my mouth. It was just a moment though, a moment where I stood still to her expression.

“I think that’s a great dream.” She finally spoke. “I hope you can achieve it.”

“… Aren’t you going to say anything about my parents?”

“Honestly, I envy you.” She commented in which I was taken aback a little. “I want to talk to my dad so much, but I can’t. You can, but you refuse to. I’d be lying to say that it’ll be okay without your parents … Still, I have no right to say anything else. This is your business and not mine to interfere.”

She stood up and cleared the table as her eyes broke off from mine. I walked away from her and back into my room, not because I was angry by her words but … affected by them, I guess. When I explained this to Donghae and Hyorin, they slightly pitied me but she didn’t show any. She just said what was from her mind and instantly showed me a face of support.

It felt nice …

I heard the front door close and assuming that she left without a farewell, I stepped out into the kitchen again to grab a drink. However, I saw that there was a note left on the kitchen table that read:

Eunhyuk aka Monkey-boy,

Leftovers are in the fridge along with some bananas. Enjoy!

I opened the fridge to clearly see the food, but the bananas were hogging up the space.

Does she really think of me not as a human, but as an animal? I smirked at her stupidity.

“What a strange fellow, this girl.”

HiHighHeyHello readers (:

Like I said, the update was going to be fast so here is chapter SE7EN :D I hope you enjoyed reading it! Ahahaha, thank you for reading, commenting and subscribing.

It makes me feel good, as good as Eunhyuk feels when he’s with Hyoyeon, as good as Hyoyeon feels when Eunhyuk touches her, as good as hyohyuk shippers feel when there are hyohyuk moments <3

I also want you all to know that I’m not going to be updating regularly anymore because I’ll be busy with very important work (EVEN THOUGH HYOHYUK IS IMPORTANT TOO), so there will be slow updates. I apologize in advance!

Like this story? Give it an Upvote!
Thank you!

Chapter 26: I know i'm like 50 years late in reading your fanfic but i just had to comment on this; you wrote such a lovely story <3
not only you managed to make the rival in this story as a sweet angel, but you made it so that there's no one to hate or anything to be blamed on anybody, and that makes it such an enlightening thing to read. You've structured the storyline well making it not confusing, and romance part is sweet and just, just cheezy enough to tingle your romantic bones, though not enough to make you gag.
and most of all i enjoyed your aunthor's notes!!! some i find it so relatable especially the hyohyuk comments ^^, while some are full of wisdom i was literally in awe, thinking of the fact that you were a high school student/just graduated or so back then.
and i save the best review last......i may not know you personally, but as i read this ff, i couldn't help but pick up your personality, paragraph per parahraph, chapter by chapter. The fact that the characters are so humble, selfless, family & friend loving, with a fiery fighting spirit somehow reflects the author, which is YOU! :)))) i am sad to read that you were leaving this ff, but i hope you'll discover my comment one day. and you'll continue writing here in aff! or even become a published author?? haha. i'm rambling now.
Thank you for writing!!
