Don't Feed the Squirrels

Unexpected Places

Soonyoung/Jihoon POV

It was a pleasantly warm day in early September and Soonyoung was enjoying the weather. He was currently sprawled out on the grass soaking in the sunlight, it would be a shame to waste such a beautiful day.

Soonyoung had only been there for 5 minutes and yet, somehow, he was already bored. He sighed pulling out his phone and sending a quick text to the person who he was currently waiting for.

Now smiling, Soonyoung slid his phone back into his pocket. Now he just had to find someway to entertain himself for the fifteen minutes until Jihoon’s class ended. Turns out that it wasn’t anywhere near as easy as he thought.

*******

What the hell?” Jihoon’s mouth fell open as he took in the scene before him. A small crowd of students had gathered in a circle while loud music blared. He recognized the song instantly and groaned, already expecting the worst as he pushed his way to the front of the crowd.

Of course. He rolled his eyes  as he watched the blue haired boy getting down to the SHINee song. His roommate had always had a thing for the popular boy group. Rather than disturb him, however, he took a moment to watch, smiling slightly at the faraway look on the other boy’s face. Soonyoung had always had a passion for dance, it was something that Jihoon really admired about him. He might be outgoing and energetic and love fooling around, but when it came to dance there was something different about him. Something serious and passionate, a side of the happy, silly boy that he rarely let show. Jihoon found it almost intoxicating, he could watch Soonyoung dance for hours.

Noticing the purple-haired boy, Soonyoung grinned, coming to a halt mid-groove. “JIHOONIE!” He sprang forward, practically tackling the smaller boy as he pulled him into a tight hug.

“Just how long have you been here,” Jihoon muttered, embarrassed especially under the curious stares of Soonyoung’s fans.

“Far too long, my sweet munchkin, far too long,” He pinched the younger’s cheek ignoring the look of shock (quickly turning to rage) on the other boy’s face, before cackling evilly and sprinting away.

“YAH HOSH! YOU’RE DEAD WHEN I CATCH YOU, DEAD!!! YOU HEAR ME?!?” He raced after the other boy. When he did eventually catch up (totally not because Soonyoung let him, of course) he tackled the other boy and they fell to the ground, both of them laughing as Jihoon swatted at Soonyoung. They remained that way for a time, laying on their backs, staring up at the clear sky, exchanging a lively banter. Eventually, at the sound of the younger’s stomach grumbling, Soonyoung pulled himself up.

“So what will it be, fair child? What shall we feast upon today?” Jihoon snorted, at Soonyoung’s antics.

“Meat, of the highest quality,” Now it was Soonyoung’s turn to grin, it wasn’t every day that Jihoon went along with one of his bits.

“And where shall we dine, good sir?”

“I know a place over yonder that serves the best chicken in the land.”

“Really? I  believe I am not familiar with such an establishment, would you care to enlighten me?”

“Okay I’m done with this.” Jihoon also stood up, dusting off his pants.

“Nooooooo whyyyy???? You were doing so well!!!” Soonyoung whined, grabbing onto Jihoon’s arm, who smirked but otherwise didn’t budge. “Where are we eating anyways?”

“We’re just getting take-away, I don’t really have time to eat out. I have a new project which I’m working on.”

“But Jihoonie, I want to eat lunch out,” Soonyoung pouted and Jihoon smiled. Sometimes Soonyoung could act like a little kid, but he didn’t mind. Not that he would ever tell Soonyoung that, of course.

“Tomorrow- I also know that you have work in an hour.” Soonyoung worked at 20 Dance Studio, a small place located conveniently close to their new apartment. He taught children’s dance classes, a job which he absolutely adored. Jihoon knew that his main dream was to become a famous dancer, but he also knew that his best friend loved sharing his passion with others.

Don’t give me that look, I have my own work too.” Soonyoung was giving him his puppy-dog eyes, something that had won many arguments in the beginning of their friendship, but not so much anymore. Jihoon had become accustomed to his treacherous ways.

“Fine, but tomorrow we’re definitely going to Adore U. I’ve been in the mood for some cake recently.” He slung his arm around Jihoon’s shoulder as they walked across campus, making their way to the nearest take-away place.

“What? Who ever said anything about Adore U? I want pizza!” Soonyoung pulled a face.

“We have pizza all the time, don’t you think it’s time for us to branch out? Experience new things? Try new foods?” Jihoon rolled his eyes.

“Yes, because cake is such a new food for you. Besides Mansae’s is also cheaper.”

“Is that all you care about, money??? Is a few dollars worth more than my friendship with you?” He cried dramatically.

“Do you really want me to answer that?”

“I thought you loved me!!! I thought you cared about me!! Turns out there is no room in your heart for anything other than cash!” Soonyoung clutched at his own chest, a look of fake-distress plastered across his face.

“Hey! I’ll have you know there’s plenty of room in my heart for other things. Things like sleeping and food!” Laughing the boys continued arm-in-arm until Soonyoung’s phone went off, blasting the chorus of “Ring Ding Dong”

Seungkwan/Hansol POV
“UGHHH,” Seungkwan tossed aside his phone (don’t worry, it landed on his pillows. Like he would ever seriously risk the wellbeing of his baby. He had worked hard to afford his phone) before flopping down on his bed with another loud sigh. Amused, Hansol glanced up from his desk where he had been doing homework.

“What’s wrong?” Seungkwan flushed, embarrassed at his own distress.

“My jerk friends thought that it would be a wonderful idea to all make plans on the single most important day of my life!” He huffed, hugging his oversized panda stuffed animal to his chest. Hansol simply chuckled.

“I’m sure it can’t be that serious.”

“You don’t understand! My friends betrayed me! I have been waiting for this day for the past year and they betrayed me!” He sighed once more. “Why? Dear God, tell me why they must have lives outside of our friendship? I, Boo Seungkwan, was once the sole shining light in their pathetically dark lives but now when I need them most, they abandon me!”

“Shining Light? Pathetic Lives? Wow, you’re a real gem, you know that, right?” Hansol laughed at the other’s opinion of his friends. Having met Minghao before, he knew that the other boy must be grossly exaggerating. Minghao didn’t seem like the kind to stab someone in the back. Plus he doubted that Seungkwan was ever really the “sole shining light” in anyone’s “pathetically dark” life.

“It came out today, my queen’s new movie.”

    “What?”

“Song Ji Hyo’s new movie is finally out and all my friends have abandoned me in my time of need!”

“Can’t you just go by yourself?”

“Omo!” Seungkwan laughed as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “Go by myself? Go. by. Myself? GO BY MYSELF?? Are you crazy?? One does not simply go to a movie by himself! Especially not when one is as fabulous as I am!” Hansol had to stifle a laugh.

    “Fine.”

    “Fine?”

“I’ll go with you.” He smiled at a not-really-paying-attention Boo Seungkwan.

“Psh yeah, you’ll go with me- WAIT WHAT,” now that caught his attention. Suddenly he was sitting up, completely alert. “SERIOUSLY?? YOU’LL GO WITH ME?!?!”

    “Yeah…”

“YOU ARE A WONDERFUL HUMAN BEING AND I AM PROUD TO BE YOUR ROOMMATE!!” He squealed leaping off of his bed and tackling the other boy, causing him to fall out of his chair, with Seungkwan landing on top of him.

    “Um, Seungkwan?” Hansol monotoned.

“Yeah?” Replied the other boy, still on top of him.

“Can you, uh, get off?” Immediately Seungkwan’s face flushed, something that he couldn’t hide in their close proximity, and Hansol smirked.

“Oh, sorry,” he moved to untangle himself from the younger boy, who suddenly yelped.

“AHHH! Seungkwan! Watch where you put your hands!” Seungkwan froze, and slowly glanced down. His left hand was lying directly on Hansol’s crotch.

“YAHHH!” He transformed into a tomato jumping back, separating himself from his roommate and grabbing his wrist and staring at his own hand as it it were some kind of unfamiliar appendage. Hansol smirked again, obviously amused by his behavior.

“Soooooo,” The half-american broke the awkward silence that was starting to form, his voice startling the look of absolute horror/disbelief off of Seungkwan’s face. “What time’s the movie?”

“It starts at 12:30,” At the mention of the film, Seungkwan immediately brightened. “We should leave in 10- that way we’ll be there early and we’ll definitely be able to get good seats.”

“Cool.” As his roommate beamed at him, Hansol couldn’t help but smile back. Boo Seungkwan was certainly interesting to say the very least.

Seungcheol POV

“And then Shua said ‘I love that sweater, babe’ and kissed me! I had to stop myself from laughing!” Seungcheol smiled as he watched Jeonghan passionately convey the earlier events of his day.

“It’s not his fault, even I’d noticed how she’d been hanging around you for the past month. If someone was following Minghao around, obviously lusting after him, I wouldn’t hesitate to put them in their place by doing the same!” Jun piped up eagerly.

“I was just surprised, it’s Jisoo after all. He’s nice to everybody. In fact, I think that it was the first time I’ve ever seen him be anything less than polite to another Human being.” Jeonghan paused for a moment, as if lost in thought, a slight smile tugging at his lips. “It was actually really hot. Later on w-”

“STOP!” Seungcheol held up a hand, he had had enough best-friend-talks with Jeonghan to know where this conversation was leading. “We so do not need to hear about your -life right now.” He flopped down on the couch next to Jun, handing him a bag of chips. The three boys were hanging out at his apartment while the other members of their friend group were busy (Hansol had mentioned something about a movie, Seokmin was at rehearsal for the school play, Jisoo and Mingyu were working, Chan was at the library studying, and Minghao was apparently too busy to hang out with Jun, something the Chinese boy would not stop complaining about).

“Speaking of -lives,” the supposed angel smiled rather devilishly. “Jun, how’s yours been lately?” The Chinese boy choked on the potato chips that he had been eagerly munching on.

“W-what?” He spluttered, coughing .

“You heard him,” Seungcheol smirked, Jeonghan wasn’t the only one who wanted to know how far the other boy had gone. Jun shot him a glare.

“Seriously? Now you want to talk about this?” Seungcheol merely shrugged.

“Why not?”

“Fine.” Jun gave in rather easily, although Minghao would most likely, scratch that, definitely kill him once he found out. He smiled dreamily, and Jeonghan and Seungcheol smirked at one another. “It’s been wonderful. He might not look like it, but wow that boy really-” Just as he was about to continue, Seungcheol’s phone went off, blasting rap music. “A to the G to the U to the STD

Seungcheol sighed putting down his phone. “Looks like I have to go, Chan needs a ride home.”

“My baby? I’ll come with you!” Jeonghan jumped at the chance. Not that Seungcheol would ever mention it (he had learned from the last time he tried to bring it up- the bruise lasted for a month), but he found it strange that Jeonghan was so attached to his step-brother. It was like he was trying to adopt him so that he and Jisoo could have a son.

“But I don’t want to stay here all alone! I’ll come too!”

“Fine, I guess we’re all going to pick him up then, he’s at Mansae’s.”

“Oooohhh can we get pizza? I’m kind of hungry!” Jun smiled at the thought of the delicious, warm food.

“Of course!” Seungcheol feigned offense. “What kind of person doesn’t get pizza when they go to a pizza restaurant!”

    *******

The drive to Mansae’s was short and relatively uneventful (there had been an intense battle for shotgun when they left, but in the end Jeonghan had won and Jun was left sulking in the back seat). Climbing out of the car and spotting his step-brother, Seungcheol couldn’t help but wonder what brought him to Mansae’s in the first place. It wasn’t that Chan wasn’t a fan of the establishment (like every other Pledis University pizza-lover the place was a personal favorite of his), so much as he had said he was going to the library to study and he now he was waiting outside the pizza restaurant with a ridiculously large smile on his face. What happened to him?

[A/N]

I’m thinking of changing the way that I do chapters, I’m not really digging this whole ‘POV’ thing that I started especially since a lot of them aren’t really from the person who I specified’s POV (especially the bowling chapter). I might start doing locations or just like character names or something but idk really at this point. Just don’t be surprised if that changes sometime in the future.

I hope you liked this chapter! Thanks for all the subs (I have almost 50 now, party!) and the comments! I really like reading them!
