Taehyung stared at the hand for a moment.

What a strange thing to do, handshakes are meant for adults.

He smiled softly, and shook his head before awkwardly high-fiving the other boy’s hand sideways.

“Nice to meet you! My name is Kim Taehyung, but I already know your name. Min Yoongi,” he said the name thoughtfully with a squint of his eyes, before opening them widely again, smiling brightly, “I like that name!”

“Thank you.” Was the only reply Yoongi could think of; people had said this to him before, but it felt different with it coming from another child.

“So what school do you go to?”

“I’m home-schooled, so I don’t need to go to school.” His reply was short, and somewhat blunt, but he figured that it was a sufficient answer for the question.

“Wow, that’s so cool! I wish I could be home-schooled, that would mean I could study in bed!” Taehyung chuckled at his own brilliant idea, then picked his hot dog off of the plate. “Hey, why are you picking at your burger, aren’t you hungry, hyung?”

Yoongi’s stomach flipped again at the honorific; was he ever going to get used to that?

“I forgot to pick up some cutlery, so I-“

“Cutlery?” Taehyung cocked his head to the side slightly, his eyebrows furrowing a little.

“Yes, cutlery. You know; a knife and fork?”

“Oh! Yes, I know those, I just hadn’t heard the other word before!” His eyes shone lightly as he stared at Yoongi, as if learning this word was the best thing that happened to him all day. Then they dimmed again as he frowned once more, “why do you need cut- a knife and fork for a burger? You just pick it up with your hands and eat it,”

“That’s messy, I-“

“Messy is fun! Watch!” Taehyung spoke quickly before shoving half of the hot dog into his mouth, and taking a bite. His face was covered in mustard and ketchup, and Yoongi had to suppress the urge to gag. Taehyung turned his face back to Yoongi, smiling widely through the mix of bread and meat, and laughed at the look of disgust that had spread across his hyung’s face.

Yoongi looked back down at his burger, and continued picking at it. Taehyung sighed loudly at the other boy’s attempts at eating his food delicately, which wasn’t really working as his fingers were covered in ketchup anyway. He placed his paper plate on the ground, with the remainder of his hot dog, and walked towards the building.
