~ moving forward ~
Shutting down his laptop, Ryeowook turned his chair around only to see some of his co-staffs leaving the room holding their wallets. He looked at his wristwatch and realized that it is now quarter to four in the afternoon.
“Hey Ryeowook-ah, you’re not coming with us?” Sungmin inquired when his friend didn’t bother standing from his seat to join them. He along with their co-staffs was going out for a coffee break or something like that to awaken up their senses.
“Nope. I’ll stay here,” Ryeowook declined as he stretched his legs on a chair and massaged it. “Go enjoy guys,”
“Well, do you want me to buy something for you? Perhaps a little bit of sugar will help,” his friend asked.
“Fine, if you insist then buy me anything...you know what I like right?”
“Sure... take a rest then,”
“Do call me when someone needs me,”
Ryeowook waved off and with that he was left alone in the room. He leaned on his chair enjoying the comforting sound of silence. Sometimes he would purposely stay behind his friends in order to have some time alone with himself. As an only child, he was familiar with this kind of situation and he rather enjoyed it. For him, being alone is not lonely. Instead, it is a sign of independence, of knowing that you can survive without other’s companionship.
This is also probably the reason why he was still single at his age. He is already in his late twenties and Ryeowook constantly hear his relatives asking him when he plans to settle down.
“You’re too dedicated on your work. Would you mind thinking about yourself first?”
That sounds wrong for him since he clearly loves himself. Probably too much that he can live alone until now. He thinks about himself a lot. And usually these things prevent him from opening his heart for love. He thinks he will just get himself hurt just like some of his friends who had failed relationships.
“Aren’t you afraid of living the rest of your life alone? You’re missing out so much in life!”
How could he have some fun when most of the time he was working on duty? Ever since he graduated college he was living half of his time along the white halls of the hospital. Anyone who’s in the medical field would understand him. Maybe he will marry so late or worse he will be alone forever.
And so every time people around him would taunt his single status he would just let it pass within his two ears. So what? He’s earning money which is more than his needs. He’s healthy. He’s happy... or so he thinks. Okay, but he insists that he is not lonely.
“What a lonely sight we have here... what are you doing alone?” a voice spoke. Ryeowook rolled his eyes. How many times will he have to hear these words in his lifetime? He turned around his chair to glare at the intruder only to widen his eyes in surprise when he saw Kyuhyun standing right at the door side.
“Hello,” Kyuhyun greeted with his hand giving a small wave. “Are you having a bad day?”
Ryeowook sighed. “No, you just came in an inappropriate time. Shouldn’t you be busy at this time?”
“I was, few minutes ago... I just finished a consultation with a patient. Changmin’s in the middle of surgery again so I don’t have anyone to bother inside the office so I came out of the den to walk before I start my rounds later.”
“Why don’t you just stay inside your den? Somebody might need you,”
“Might be... but I think I need some coffee right now or else I can’t last until the next hours of duty. All I need is a holiday that I probably can’t have until there’s an emergency at home.”
Ryeowook nodded in understanding as Kyuhyun sat down on one of the empty chairs near him. “Where are the others?” Kyuhyun asked noticing him alone.
“Sungmin and some went out to eat. The other people... hmmm I think they’re out there doing their jobs,” he answered. “And I’m here daydreaming until you disturbed the peace,” he joked.
“Oh I thought I’m welcome to disturb you anytime,” Kyuhyun laughed. “I was planning to drag you out too.”
“Can’t you drink your coffee alone for now?” the smaller asked yawning. “I was planning to take a nap, I’m sleep depri
