“You look great,” Taemin complimented, watching Jonghyun like a hawk as the elder surveyed his appearance in the mirror. His suit was simple – black and suave, had probably cost a fortune but Jonghyun hadn’t cared, not at the time he'd bought it, many months ago – with a matching black tie. His shoes were polished and his hair stylishly ruffled, but he still felt somewhat ragged, with bitten nails and dark bags clinging beneath his eyes.
Taemin stood, dressed with more flair in a double-ed pinstriped suit that helped showcase his wiry figure. His hair was wavy and untamed, shielding his high cheekbones, and he wore a dark shirt, the top buttons undone with a loose tie. Jonghyun didn't know where he'd sourced the outfit from, but he didn’t care. Taemin looked good, and that was all that mattered.
“You got the masks?” Jonghyun asked, but had his question answered when he saw the two beautiful masquerade masks resting atop the duvet of the bed they stood by. The one Taemin planned to wear was golden and extravagant, shrouded in slight diamonds that looked too authentic to be simply plastic, and covered almost his entire face, but his eyes, nose and lips. It worked a treat – Jonghyun barely recognised Taemin with it on. His own mask was much more simple, a blue mask that had to be handheld, unlike Taemin’s. He doubted he'd wear it, yet part of him felt uncomfortable going without it. Given the field day the press were having with him, in public Jonghyun merely wanted to hide.
“This will work,” Taemin assured, “it has to.”
Jonghyun nodded and turned to face Taemin, who stood as handsome as ever. For some reason, seeing him in his suit stirred a dark lusting within Jonghyun, but he had to ignore it. If Taemin was the darkness, Kibum had to be light, and he planned to stay beneath the gaze of the stars for as long as possible.
