Every winter Youngjae looked forward to the first snow. When he was a kid, he used to build snowmen and have snowball fights with his friends. He was an adult now but the magic of the first snow hadn't had any less effect on him as it had done when he was young. It was already dark outside when it happened but Youngjae didn't break his tradition to go out for a walk anyway. He put on a beanie and a thick scarf and gloves and made sure that his coat didn't let any cold air in. The cold air felt nice on his skin as he stepped outside of his apartment and it was still snowing.

Only the street lamps shone their dim light on the white ground, making the snow glisten like crystals. Youngjae loved the look of untouched snow, nature could create such beautiful things. He knew that by the time he woke up, a lot of footprints would be on the pavement and the street would be cleaned off the snow, leaving muddy remains of it on the sides that were everything but pleasant. Although it was night, it didn't seem to be dark at all, every pavement and every house was covered in a white blanket, making the dark night look much more friendly and welcoming.

He made a few steps and smiled when he heard the crunching sound underneath his feet. It relaxed him and it felt somehow satisfying. Youngjae kept turning around to watch the trail of footprints he had left in the snow. His were the only footprints in the fresh snow, he felt like the first man on the moon leaving his marks there. When he arrived at the little park just a few streets away from his apartment, he saw another trail in the snow. It seemed like he wasn't the only one who liked to take walks in the snow. The trail only lead inside of the park but there was no sign that the person (Youngjae guessed it was a male from the shoe size) had already left the park.

It didn't take long until his assumption was confirmed and he saw somebody crouching down in the snow, making a little snowman. Youngjae watched from afar and saw how one ball of snow slowly became 2 balls and then there was a third ball on the very top with just the size of a regular snowball. The male turned around when Youngjae walked close enough for him to hear his footsteps and for a moment, they looked at each other.

The man's black hair was covered in snow, he shook his hair out with his fingers before he approached Youngjae but by the time he stood in front of him, there were already new snowflakes in his hair. “Hi,” he said. His breath formed a white cloud in front of his mouth. “Hey,” Youngjae replied. The other was as tall as him and even though it was dark, he could clearly make out the nice features, tall nose bridge and plump lips and his eyes formed little curves as he smiled.

“I'm Daehyun,” the male said and stretched out his hand for a handshake. It was awkward but Youngjae took it anyway as he told the other his name. Daehyun's hand was cold from the snow, unlike Youngjae he wasn't wearing any gloves. But he wasn't completely unprepared for the cold either because just a moment after, he took out a heating pack from his pocked and rubbed it between his hands.

They walked a round in the park together, deciding that they would take the chance now that they randomly met at such a place. Youngjae liked Daehyun, he liked the sound of his voice and the way he laughed at his jokes, it didn't even need a whole round for him to believe that they were getting along well. He also didn't miss the looks Daehyun would give him every now and then, the look of admiration and affection. Youngjae felt the same, he had felt attracted to the other right away, Daehyun seemed to be a perfect combination of the things he liked.

Usually, Youngjae would meet new people in bars or through friends, he had never just approached a stranger out of nowhere but he didn't regret going out at all. The snow got stronger, it would soon grow into a storm and Daehyun was shivering. He didn't live far away and Youngjae gathered all his courage as he offered to walk Daehyun home. The smile on Daehyun's face said more than any word could have said, they walked the way to his apartment shoulder on shoulder, so close that their arms were touching.

Youngjae's heart was fluttering, it had been a while since he last felt like this and even though he felt a little silly, he would embrace this opportunity. They shared their numbers before Daehyun opened the door and Youngjae was aware of the awkward silence between them, heavy with unspoken words and actions because they both waited for the other to make the first step.

Neither of them made the move and their shy smiles turned into a melodious laughter. Youngjae had to promise Daehyun to text him once he was back home. His way was short and in these few minutes he already thought about the next time he would see him. Daehyun was even more handsome in the warm light of the street lamps. He saw his and Daehyun's footprints in the snow, their steps seemed to match each other perfectly and he kind of didn't want to ruin the beautiful marks they had left behind.

That night, Youngjae dreamed about a handsome face with warm eyes that looked at him lovingly, warming his hands in between his palms and giving gentle kisses on his knuckles.
