Trompe L'œil
La Petite MortFebruary, 15, 2015 (63 days before death).
Luhan is found lying in a ditch early in the morning. His body is covered with fading bruises and fresh scratches. They think he's been beaten, but there's no way for them to tell; Luhan refuses to speak. He's brought to the infirmary with strict instructions to stay in the small room. No one is allowed to visit him.
They think he's been attacked by the same person that may have killed Yixing and Joonmyeon.
February, 18, 2015 (60 days before death).
Luhan has slept for two complete days. When he wakes there is a man in a suit sitting beside his bed. He introduces himself as a detective, and says that he wants to ask Luhan a few questions.
He's being too polite, and it makes Luhan uncomfortable. He has no idea what's going on.
Crazy thoughts are going through his head. He thinks that maybe Minseok told the school about Sehun and they're taking him away.
“He's just...sitting there. He doesn't even talk to me.”
“I understand your concern. Perhaps I could speak with Luhan alone?”
“That is if he will speak. It's been three years, doctor. I thought you said this treatment worked?”
“Yes, in most cases, the combination of medication and therapy have been successful.”
“Not in this case.”
“Just...let me talk to him.”
Luhan can hear his father talking to his doctor. They're speaking in hushed whispers so that he doesn't hear.
But he does.
“Luhan, hello. I hear you've been having trouble speaking. Is that true?”
Luhan doesn't reply.
“That's alright. Don't strain yourself. I want this to be a comfortable place for you.”
Luhan isn't comfortable. He wants to go home to his things. Again, he doesn't speak.
“It's been quite a while since you've spoken hasn't it? Do you feel that this is real, Luhan? Am I real?”
This puts Luhan in tough spot. He isn't sure if he's still imagining or not, so he shrugs his shoulders.
“You don't know? Well, can you tell me something that is real?”
