Synopsis
La Petite Mort
As many have been able to tell, this story is coming to a close. Not immediately, of course. However, as things are about to be revealed, I will make less of an effort to specifically explain certain details. This chapter will serve as an intermission of sorts so that you can all catch up and we can be on one page as a unit.
You know...so that we are....one. You get it.
I'm going to do this by chapter so that you can skip to the chapter you were confused by. I will also include the english translation for the french titles.
1. Inutile Et Indispensable (Useless and indispensable/disposable).
This chapter is an introduction to Luhan as well as a chance for you to make your very first assumptions about the story.
Sehun is introduced to the story as well as his ornery and sometimes sarcastic sense of humor. We later learn this is because he is fully aware that he is not a figment of imagination.
Luhan's reluctance to admit that he may be a bit psychotic is expressed in this chapter as well.
2. A Tes Souhaits (Bless you).
In this chapter Baekhyun is introduced. Baekhyun's cynic attitude and attachment to Luhan is fortified in this chapter as well.
Baekhyun and Luhan create a foreshadowing affect in this chapter by Baekhyun asking Luhan if he believed in ghosts and Luhan asking Sehun what he thought about ghosts.
In this chapter Sehun kisses Luhan and then disappears. It is later revealed that Sehun did this because he was afraid that he had hurt Luhan.
As far as is known, Sehun had never stopped hurting Luhan by staying away from him because he was unintentionally possessing him and slowly rotting/killing from the inside on a daily basis. (It may be unpleasant, but think of Sehun possessing Luhan like Luhan having AIDS. It doesn't kill him quickly, but it's slowly taking away from his health so that a small virus [or poison] can harm him more than it originally would have).
The French term 'bless you' is used in reverence to the fact that people say it to appease embarrassing or uncontrollable behavior. It is also used in the very literal sense that uncontrollable bodily function (sneezing, coughing, belching, farting, etc.) was believed to be a sign of possession (hinthint) and saying 'bless you' would be a tier in appeasing that person's soul.
3. Fait Accompli (Irreversible/complete).
In this chapter Baekhyun's attachment to Luhan is shown as he expresses concern for Luhan's demeanor.
It is also revealed that Luhan now has bruises all over his lips. This is because it is a concentrated area for Sehun and it took a quicker/greater toll on Luhan's body instead of a steady decline in his health.
When Sehun does return he creates a foreshadowing affect by telling Luhan that he is not good for him and that he may have to leave permanently at some point.
The French term 'irreversible' is used in reverence to the fact that the damage done to Luhan by Sehun leaving is irreversible. It is also used to reveal that even though Sehun thinks it best to leave, the damage done to Luhan's life and body by him introducing himself to Luhan in the first place is irreversible. A false twist is created as well when the readers get a peak into the past at the aftermath of Sehun's suicide attempt. It is hinted that the 'irreversible' aspect of this chapter was Sehun's suicide, but it is later revealed that Sehun did not commit suicide.
The false twist of Sehun's suicide is foreshadowed by Baekhyun's earlier exclamation: "Some of these depressed prep s must have offed themselves in the past..." As it is true that Sehun did attempt suicide, this remains an attempt to steer readers into another direction.
4. Raison D'être (Reason for living).
In this chapter Baekhyun reveals that he plans to run away with Chanyeol.
Chanyeol is a new person to Luhan, and Luhan makes a big deal out of the fact that he cannot wish for or expect anything from/for Chanyeol because he does not know him. It is also revealed that Luhan is distant, but very attached to Baekhyun. It is also revealed that his protective of Baekhyun, as he can only hope that Baekhyun will be taken care of.
There is also a small exchange between Luhan and Sehun in which Sehun reveals that he does think there is something wrong with Luhan mentally, but his idea of Luhan's psychosis has nothing to do with his existence.
A small poem makes its debut in the story as well that helps put the readers into the mind of Luhan. (I did write this poem and it is original. It was written for this chapter exactly and inspired by Clint Mansell's 'Together We Will Live Forever' I recommend you listen to it as you read the chapter/story, it is a beautiful piece and the theme for this story.)
The French term 'reason for living' is used in reverence to Baekhyun's new found love as wel
