Chapter One

Three seconds had changed Adrianna Oxford’s life.

A routine trip to Philadelphia’s Chinatown with her close friend Amanda Wang had been the start of it all.

~~~
            “Hurry up, Adri! You walk so slow!” Amanda chided, stopping on a busy sidewalk to wait.
            The young woman identified as Adri heard nothing of her companion’s complaints. She was staring intently through a glass window that belonged to a video store, mouth slightly open. A familiar figure was displayed on the small TV in the store’s window. He began to dance gracefully, and she found herself completely captivated, unable to move from her position.
            If she could only meet him…
            But how? Adri thought, sighing. He doesn’t even know I exist…
            If she had started walking toward Amanda at that moment, then things would have been vastly different…her dull life would not have changed. But she lingered, dreaming of the impossible.
            That’s when it happened.
            “Help! Thief! Somebody help!”
            Adri looked up at the sound of the shrill, panicked voice. Her mind hadn’t caught up yet, but her heart had begun to race, and on instinct she stuck out her leg.
            It only took three seconds.
            A disheveled, middle-aged Asian man carrying a large purse screamed as he tripped over Adri’s foot. He hit the ground so hard he didn’t get back up.
            The rest was a blur for Adri. A crying woman, shouting pedestrians, and the police all blended together like an abstract painting. When she finally regained focus, Adri found herself sitting in a small café. Amanda was next to her, and across the table sat the crying woman. But she was no longer crying. A broad smile had replaced her tears.
            “I am Jung Hye-Bin. Thank you so much for stepping in,” the woman said. Her English was perfect, but a slight accent could still be detected. “It was very brave of you.”
            Adri could feel her face heating up. She shook her head vigorously and mumbled, “Oh…no…I didn’t really do anything. I just happened to be in the way. That guy was obviously a total spazz. “
Jung Hye-Bin looked puzzled. “What is spazz?”
Adri smiled weakly. Nice job. Confuse the poor woman.
Jung Hye-Bin’s dainty nose wrinkled as she smiled. “You are too modest…um…”
“Adrianna,” Amanda chirped. "But you can call her Adri for short."
“A…dri…” the woman murmured, trying to pronounce the name properly. “I really cannot thank you enough.”
“You don’t need to,” Adri pleaded. She stopped talking upon realizing that the pleasant Korean woman sitting in front of her reminded her of someone. Especially her eyes. They were confident and shaped like almonds.
“I must repay you,” Jung Hye-Bin insisted, her voice strong. “I will not take no for an answer.”
Adri and Amanda exchanged curious glances. This was one determined woman.
“I am late for a business meeting, so here is my contact information,” she explained, handing Adri a business card. “I hope to hear from you very soon!” With that, Jung Hye-Bin left the café, her high-heels clacking on the tile floor.
Adri slumped in her chair and groaned, “What a crazy day.”
Amanda giggled, her dark brown eyes sparkling with mirth, “Let me see that card!” She took it from Adri, glanced at it, and stopped smiling immediately.
“Adri…?”
“What?”
“Have you ever heard of Jung Enterprises?”
“Um…no.”
“Well you better Google it, because you just saved the CEO.”
Adri spat out her drink.
Three weeks later, she and Amanda were on a plane to South Korea.
~~~

To say Hotel Jung was like a palace would be an understatement.

Amanda Wang walked through the gold revolving doors, and let out a squeal of excitement. So far everything had seemed like a dream. Adri helping Jung Hye-Bin, being invited to Korea- it was all happening so fast! She almost felt like she was in a drama. “Once again, Adri- you’re walking too slow!”

“Of course I am- we are in Seoul!” I want to take in every single detail so I can remember this forever!” Adri responded, putting down her large, red suitcase. She had practically packed everything in her closet so it was bursting at the seams.  A cold wind from outside sent a chill through the excited girl’s body causing her to sneeze. She wrapped her soft, white scarf around her neck, and zipped up her jacket. Autumn was not a particularly warm season in South Korea.

“Didn’t Ms. Jung say she was gonna meet us here at two o’clock?” Amanda asked, checking the time on her cell phone.

“Yeah, but she's a business woman. She’s probably stuck in a meeting or something,” Adri answered. She didn’t really care. All she knew was that her heart was beating so fast it hurt. She just couldn’t stop smiling. I can’t believe I’m here!!!

Finally over-whelmed by the sheer excitement of it all, Adri sat on her suitcase, exhausted.

Scanning the lobby, she noticed it wasn’t really crowded. Strange, she thought. It’s a Saturday. After forty-five minutes of waiting both girls started getting impatient. So when a person with a chocolate lab strolled into the hotel, Adri was more than happy for the distraction.

Amanda approached the short Korean man and his dog, and said in Hangul, “Your dog is so cute! What is his name?” The man eyed her suspiciously before responding in a gruff voice. Adri decided to stay behind Amanda and keep quiet for two reasons.

One: There weren’t many people who looked like her hanging around in Seoul, so she scared the crap out of everyone. Literally.

And…Two: When she busted out in Hangul it only freaked everyone out more.

Needless to say, she had found both things out the hard way.

While Amanda was conversing with the man (who looked like he wanted to run away from the ‘scary foreigners’) Adri pulled out her passport and grimaced at the picture. It was probably the worst picture she had ever taken in her life. She was deep in thought, wondering if she could change it, when the Korean man’s dog ambled over to her. Its brown eyes glinted mischievously. A minute later Adri’s passport was snatched from her hands. The chocolate lab had it between his teeth, and was bolting for the door.

“What the-?” Adri cried, shocked. She ran after the dog, hearing Amanda exclaim, “Oh snap!” behind her.

“Come back here you crazy dog!” Adri shouted. She remembered she was in Korea, and yelled it again in Hangul. People were looking at her now. They were staring at her like she was insane. Adri groaned. Great…as if I didn’t stand out enough! Just as she was closing in on the lab, she slammed into someone. Hard.

“Ah!” Adri yelped, tipping over. She closed her eyes, bracing herself for the pain that would come once she hit the hard, marble floor.

But the pain never came.

In one quick motion, strong arms grabbed her shoulders, and pulled her close so she wouldn’t fall. Time stopped, and Adri seized the opportunity to assess the situation. Whoever she had bumped into was tall, solid, and strong. She could tell, because her right cheek was pressed up against his chest, and his arms were basically squeezing her. Adri inhaled and noticed that the person smelled incredible as well- like French vanilla mixed with strawberries. Adri figured that she could just keep her eyes closed and smell him all day. Then she wouldn’t have to face the possibility of him being really angry and punching her in the face. She was a foreigner, after all. But I can’t keep leaning on him like this, Adri reasoned. She could feel his body heat, and was surprised he hadn’t pushed her away yet. You have to face him, Adri. This is your fault! She opened one eye slowly, then the other, and looked up nervously.

Confident, almond-shaped eyes were staring down at her.

The words “I’m sorry” died in , and she froze.

That’s when Adri saw Jung Hye-Bin rush into the hotel. She smiled once she saw the stunned girl, and said, “I’m so sorry! A business meeting got out of hand.” The woman’s smile got even bigger once she saw that the tall, young man was holding Adri up by her shoulders, “But I see you’ve met my nephew…”

Adri almost choked on her own tongue. “Y-your nephew?”

His eyes twinkled as he grinned, “I’m Yunho Jung…nice to meet you. You know, you should really be more careful.”

“S-sorry,” Adri mumbled, shrugging out of his arms. She looked around the hotel and sighed heavily. The psycho dog and his owner were gone, along with her passport.

“So…” Jung Hye-Bin drawled, raising an eyebrow, “How do you know each other?”

By now Adri’s heart was slamming into her ribcage, and felt dry. Uh...I almost knocked him over? She looked at Yunho, and he winked at her. Turning to his Aunt he said, “We bumped into each other and starting talking.”

Jung Hye-Bin laughed heartily and said, “This saves me the trouble of having to introduce you two! By the way, nephew, where are your band mates? I invited them as well.”

“They’re around here somewhere. I think Changmin is checking in,” Yunho answered.

Adri was still staring at him full-on. This was who she had been dying to meet. The strong, caring leader of Dong Bang Shin Ki whose smile made her heart melt; but now that he was actually standing right in front of her she couldn’t say anything.

Author's Note: The end of the first chapter! :-) It's kind of short, but I hope it wet your appetite. There is a LOT more to come--trust me! XD

And I just looove torturing my characters (I know, I'm evil) so expect a lot of embarrassing situations, steamy scenes, and ACTION.
