Shin Hye was having a hard time getting sleep. She reached for her phone on the coffee table to check the time. It was almost midnight. She let out a sigh and stood up as she slipped her phone into her hoodie pocket. Then, she headed to the kitchen for a glass of water.

As she made her way back to the living area, she noticed the light seeping under the music room’s door. Kyuhyun was still awake, she thought. She immediately went back to the kitchen, turned the light on and prepared a cup of coffee for him.

“Kyuhyun oppa?” she called out softly as she knocked on the door. She waited for a few minutes but didn’t hear any response, so she gently opened the door and peered in. She found him sitting on the couch, asleep. He was holding a sheet of paper that was nearly falling out of his hand.

She walked towards him and placed the cup on the table beside him. She couldn’t help but stare at his handsome face and it brought smile to her lips. He looked so gentle sleeping. His face was something she’ll never get tired of looking at, she thought. She pulled her phone from her hoodie pocket and took a picture of him.

Her smile faded when she felt her heart flutter. She placed her hand on her chest as she tried to think of a reason why she did what she just did and why she was feeling that way towards him. Unfortunately, she couldn’t this time.

She let out a sigh and made her way out of the room. But before she could step out, she took another look at him. “Good night, oppa,” she uttered softly, and then walked out of the door.

She went back to the couch and covered her body with the blanket. She closed her eyes, still thinking, and then opened them again. She hated to admit it to herself, but as much as she tried to deny it, the more her feelings for him grew.

“Yes, I like him, so what?” Shin Hye told herself. It’s not like she can confess her feelings to him, and even if he feels the same way about her, it’s still not proper because they were living in the same house and he had just broken up with his girlfriend. She wanted him to heal first and she didn’t want to be a rebound. Also, she knew that he cares for her, but they were friends, and maybe that was just it for him, she thought.

She looked at his picture she had taken with her phone and stared at it. She took a deep breath as she put her phone on her chest. Then she closed her eyes as memories from their first meeting up to now started to replay in her mind. Slowly and unknowingly, she fell asleep.

Unknown to her, Kyuhyun was awakened when he heard someone close the door. He looked around and found a cup of coffee on the table beside him. A sweet smile formed on his face.  He took the cup and drank from it. He then reached for his pen and continued with what he was previously doing.

When Shin Hye woke up the next day, there was an unread message on her phone. It was from Kyuhyun.

‘Annyeong! I know you slept late, so I didn’t wake you up. I won’t be home until the afternoon, got an important matter to attend to. By the way, thanks for the coffee last night. :)’ the message read.

A sweet smile appeared on the corner of her lips. She was glad that he noticed the coffee she prepared. She realized that she totally forgot about it because of the thoughts that filled her mind last night.

After washing up, she went to the kitchen to get something to eat. She was surprised to see there was food covered on the kitchen countertop with a note stuck on it, and it read, ‘Shin Hye-yah, eat well ;)’. That was really sweet of him, she told herself, and then it came to her that Kyuhyun never failed to make her smile.

She had work later on, but since it was still early and she had nothing else to do, she decided to clean the house after breakfast.

While she was busy cleaning, her phone rang. She pulled out her phone from her pocket, and checked who the caller was. It was Yu-bi.

“Yu-bi-yah!”

“Busy?” Yu-bi asked.

“Ani. Just cleaning up.”

“I see. My husband’s at work, and I’m kind of bored, so I thought of calling you.”

“Eyyy, so how’s married life?” Shin Hye asked.

“Hmm, I’m still adjusting, but you know what, having someone who loves and cares for you and being able to do the same thing to him is such a wonderful feeling,” Yu-bi said giddily.

“Awww. I’m really happy for you.”

“Gomawo. But wait, let’s not talk about me. Let’s talk about you and him,” she teased.

“What do you mean?”

“Eyyy, Shin Hye-yah, it’s too obvious that you guys like each other. So, come on now, tell me something interesting about the two of you.”

Shin Hye heaved a sigh. She decided to tell her friend about her situation now – that she’s living with him. Yu-bi was shocked at first but when Shin Hye explained why she had to do it, she realized that it was the best thing to do, and she appreciated Kyuhyun more for being so caring towards her friend.

“Now, tell me, did he already make a move?” Yu-bi asked, feeling giddy all of a sudden.

“Yah!”

“Wae? Don’t tell me he hasn’t confessed his feelings for you yet?”

Shin Hye suddenly fell silent. What’s there to confess, she asked herself. Yes, she likes him, but it never occurred to her that he feels the same about her.

“Why would he do that?” Shin Hye asked her friend.

Yu-bi laughed. “Yah Park Shin Hye, I know you’re bright and all, but I never thought that you’re that dense when it comes to men.”

“I just don’t want to assume. I mean, we’re friends, and friends help friends, right? Plus he had a girlfriend then, and I have to focus on my job.”

“Well, yeah, you have a point there. But I still think he likes you.” Yubi giggled. “I’m not sure why he hasn’t told you yet, but maybe he’s just waiting for the right time,” she continued. Shin Hye could tell that her friend was smiling from ear to ear on the other line.

“Do you really have to make it more awkward for me?”

“Neh?” Yubi was a bit surprised with what Shin Hye said. “What do you mean?”

Shin Hye let out another sigh. “Ok, I’ll tell you everything, but please don’t laugh at me.”

“Neh, neh, I promise,” Yu-bi said excitedly.

Shin Hye told her that she likes him but didn’t know what she’s going to do with her feelings. What if it was one-sided, and even if it wasn’t, what if it’s not going to work out and will just ruin their friendship. She also told her that she didn’t really want to entertain her feelings for him since they were living in one place and he had just come from a break up. And now, Yu-bi was telling her that she thinks Kyuhyun likes her, too, which is impossible for her to believe, and that made her even more confused.

“Don’t think about it too much, Shin Hye-yah. Just take it lightly. You’ll know the answers to your questions in time. What you need to do now is enjoy your life. I mean, you’re already doing what you love to do. If you’re meant for each other, you will end up together. In the meantime, meet new people and make friends with them.... Omo, I can’t believe I’m saying these things to you.” Yu-bi chuckled. “Just a piece of advice, chingu-yah! I think you should just enjoy your moments with him. You only have two more months to do that,” she said jokingly, and then laughed again.

“Yah!”

“Ara ara. I’ll stop now.”

Yu-bi had a point, Shin Hye thought. She should not worry about it. She’s grateful to have him as a friend, so she just had to be happy about it.

“Gomawo, Yu-bi-yah.”

“Don’t mention it. Feeling better now?”

“Neh.”

“That’s good to hear. Oh! Someone’s at the door. I have to go and see who it is. I’ll call you again some other time, arasso?” Yu-bi said when she heard the doorbell rang.

“Neh.”

“Yah Shin Hye-yah! Don’t forget to seize the moment, arasso?” Yu-bi said teasingly before she ended the call.

“Aish,” was the only word Shin Hye could utter, as the call was already cut off.

Kyuhyun was still not home when Shin Hye left, but when she exited the apartment building, a man in a motorcycle was waiting for her.

“O-Oppa,” Shin Hye said. She didn’t expect him to be there, but she was happy to see him.

“I’m glad I wasn’t late,” Kyuhyun said, giving her his cutest smile. “Here,” he continued, handing her a helmet.

She took the helmet from him and wore it, while Kyuhyun got her things and put them on the back seat compartment.

“Gomawo, oppa.”

He offered his hand to help her get on his bike.

“Ready?” he asked, making sure she was properly seated.

“Neh. Let’s go,” she replied as she held on to his shoulders.

Kyuhyun took her hands off his shoulders and put them on his waist. “Mianhae, but it’s much safer this way,” he said, as he started the engine and drove off.

She knew he had a point, but she couldn’t help but blush. Kyuhyun, on the other hand, was smiling from ear to ear, just thinking about how close she was to him.
