Push and Pull

Evanesce

Cha Hakyeon raced to the cafe to meet his boyfriend, still in shock that he had almost let Wonshik kiss him. What had he been thinking? It was just... Being so close to him after all those years... He still smelled the same, like something warm that always reminded him of the color gold, and the faintest hint of sweat. Truthfully, it wasn't a bad smell. Actually, he had always found it really calming, so breathing in that scent from his past, reliving that memory with him... When combined with the residual sting from Taekwoon being unable to say a simple 'I love you,' Hakyeon had ended up almost doing something awful.

Bolting into the cafe, Taekwoon was already standing up. Panic rose in his chest as he made his way to his boyfriend. Cursing himself, he realized he was too late.

"Taek, I'm so sorry." Hakyeon looked down, ashamed of himself. How could he have allowed himself to be so late? He'd never been late to meet Taekwoon before.

"I waited as long as I could, Hakyeon. I have to go back to work now." Sighing, Taekwoon shoved some flower at him. "See you tonight." Looking up at Taekwoon, Hakyeon felt him touch his cheek gently before walking out of the cafe. Lips tingled with the absence of a goodbye kiss, his heart ached.

Gazing at the flowers, he made his slow walk home. Taekwoon had been thoughtful enough to buy him a gift and Hakyeon hadn't even bothered to show up on time. It was no wonder Taekwoon hadn't kissed him. Then again, in public Taekwoon never showed any sort of contact with him. Most people still thought they were just friends. Even the people Taekwoon worked with, even their families.

Shaking his head, he vowed not to allow his thoughts to get bitter toward Taekwoon. Hakyeon had been the one to mess up this time, not that it made the hurt any easier to handle. As much as he loved Taekwoon, sometimes the lack of proof that he felt the same destroyed Hakyeon.

Deep in thought, he was surprised when a car sped past, spraying him with icy, muddy water from the street. Screeching in surprised, he looked down at the frigid liquid dripping off of him. Ice cold water permeated him, soaking through his clothes and chilling his skin. By the time he reached the apartment he couldn't stop shivering. Looking down at his shaking hands, he whined softly. Taekwoon hadn't even noticed Hakyeon had forgotten his gloves, or maybe he hadn't cared.

"Hakyeon!" Wonshik sat the big white bear down and stood quickly when he walked through the door. "What happened?" Realization that he had forgotten to tell his boyfriend about their guest hit him, not that he'd had time to do so. Yet he couldn't help but fear what kind of strain that may put on his relationship.

"C-car splashed me..." He managed to say through chattering teeth, his body feeling frigid, uncertain if he'd ever feel warm again.

"Go take a hot shower and put on dry clothes." Intercepting him as he went to the kitchen, Wonshik gave him a look of concern. Simply holding up the flowers, he tried to explain what was keeping him. "I'll take care of those. Your lips are blue." Feeling Wonshik's thumb ghost over his lower lip sent a shiver through him. "Dont make me strip you and throw you in a hot shower myself, Cha Hakyeon. I'm not playing. Get in there before I force you."

"Okay." Hakyeon gave up and sat the flowers on the counter, allowing Wonshik to help him out of his coat. Going to take a shower, he was relieved to feel the hot water on his skin before all the missed connections and mishaps of the morning came crashing down on him, bringing him to tears.

~~~
Kim Wonshik had spent Hakyeon's time away from the apartment in silence, hugging the bear that still smelled faintly of a mix of the two of them. Trying to soak in his current reality, he relieved the last minutes, realizing he had almost kissed Hakyeon. His most precious Hakyeon who had a boyfriend of five years, the same boyfriend he had left him for. Sitting in the apartment they had shared for a year and a half Wonshik couldn't help but wonder what he had been thinking.
He had actually decided to leave when Hakyeon came back looking like a soggy snowman. Resolve to go had vanished and he just wanted to be near the other man. It wasnt something he could help. Hakyeon had always been his greatest weakness.
Placing the flowers in a vase of water, he then dragged a coat rack in front of a heater, hanging Hakyeon's soaked garment to dry. Wanting more than anything to keep his mind off of the thought of Hakyeon showering, he knew he couldn't allow himself to wander down that dangerous path. So, instead, he went into the kitchen and rummaged through cabinets until he found hot cocoa, setting out to make Hakyeon some.
By the time Hakyeon had made it out of the shower, Wonshik already had two mugs of cocoa with whipped cream ready and waiting on the coffee table in the living room. Watching Hakyeon exit the bathroom, he rushed over to gently grab his hand. Noticing the discoloration on his cheeks and his puffy eyes, he knew Hakyeon had been crying. Knowing he probably had a hand in those tears hurt him.
"Come on. Sit. I made you a drink." Embracing Hakyeon for a moment, he breathed in the scent of vanilla, before leading him to the couch. Making Hakyeon sit, he joined him and handed over a warm cup.
"Thanks, Wonshik." Hakyeon sighed after he took his first drink, a bit of whipped cream remaining on the corner of his lips as he put the cup down. Without thinking about it, Wonshik gently brushed it off with his thumb, it off of himself. A blush crept over Hakyeon's cheek and Wonshik bit his lip nervously, afraid he had crossed a line.
"Oh yeah?" Smiling, Hakyeon dipped his finger in the cream on top of Wonshik's cocoa. Before Wonshik could process what the redhead was doing he felt a blob of whipped topping connect with the tip of his nose. Gasping in surprise, he pouted slightly as Hakyeon giggled.
"Two can play at that game." Smirking, he scooped the whipped cream out of Hakyeon's mug, smearing it over his face. Laughing, he watched Hakyeon give him a scandalized look.
"I see how it is." Hakyeon stood and headed for the kitchen. Wonshik watched him nervously, knowing the other man was planning something. Standing up, he saw his companion take out the can of whipped cream from the refrigerator.
"Oh hell no." He laughed, backing away slowly. "Back Hakyeon. Put it down."
"This is happening, Wonshik." The mischievous glint in his eyes said that Wonshik was in trouble. Bolting away, Hakyeon lunged, knocking them both to the floor with a solid thud and an outburst of giggles. They struggled against one another for a moment, Hakyeon managing to get a few shots off with the whipped cream before Wonshik managed to roll them so he was on top. Taking the canister away, spraying the rest of it's contents onto his friend.
"I win." Smirked, he held Hakyeon's shoulder down with one hand, his other holding the canister, his friend's knees on either side of his hips. He didn't realize how compromising their position was until Hakyeon reached up to wipe some wipped cream off of Wonshik's lip, then realization hit him and his lips met his ex boyfriend's.
Their kiss was hot and needy and a little rough. It made him dizzy with emotions and he dropped the wipped cream can, cupping Hakyeon's cheek. They broke their kiss for air just as the apartment door swung open, both panting slightly. Hakyeon was shoving him away and grabbing the whipped cream can as reality came crashing back to Wonshik. Beautiful Hakyeon didn't belong to him anymore.
Jung Taekwoon had felt so guilty about leaving his boyfriend at the cafe that he pretended to be sick when he got back to work. Finally, after the seventh time he dry heaved in front of a client, his boss sent him home until he could recover. He had been hoping Hakyeon wouldn't be too angry with him.
"Hakyeon, I'm back." Calling out to his lover, he opened the door in time to see his boyfriend shoving a weirdly familiar blonde off of him. Whipped cream was everywhere and his perfect living room was a mess, the stupid teddy bear his boyfriend's ex had gotten him sat uncovered and unscathed against the sofa.
"Taek! You're home early!" His boyfriend was blushing and both he and the blonde stranger were trying to catch their breath. Watching the scene for a second, he put the pieces together. The blonde man was Wonshik, the person Hakyeon had missed lunch for was his ex boyfriend. How had he not even known he was back.
"What the hell?" Looking at Hakyeon, he studied him, a feeling of betrayal growing inside of him.
"He got back today but his parents were gone so I offered to let him stay here for the week." Hakyeon explained. Taekwoon noticed how he failed to look him in the eyes, the gesture not helping to ease his anxiety. "We had a whipped cream fight. I'll clean it up."
"It's okay Hakyeon. I'll clean it up. I started it." Wonshik reached over to wipe some whipped cream off of Hakyeon's cheek with his thumb and jealousy brewed inside Taekwoon.
"Hakyeon. Room. Now." His chest felt tight around Wonshik. He had always been aware of the vast differences between himself and the other man. The blonde had always been more open about everything, had always been able to say the things Taekwoon couldn't. With great effort and a fair amount of luck, he had barely managed to confess to the redhead himself. Secretly, he always felt that Wonshik deserved Hakyeon more. All he knew was that he loved, even needed, the redhead too much to let Wonshik have him.
"Taek..." Hakyeon looked nervous as Taekwoon grabbed his wrist and led him to the bedroom. Closing the door behind them, Taekwoon surveying his boyfriend for a moment before speaking.
"Why didn't you ask me first?" Finally he spoke, a sigh escaping him. "Or at least warn me that you invited your ex into my home."
"Your home?" Color seemed to drain from Hakyeon's face as he looked down at the floor. "I thought it was our home, Taekwoon. I guess I am just a guest, though. You're the one that pays the bills after all."
"Hakyeon, that's not what I meant." Taekwoon hissed in frustration. "I just think this is something we should discuss as a couple."
"What couple?! You wont even tell me you love me!" Hakyeon's voice was rising, his words ripping apart Taekwoon's heart. He was right, he couldn't say it, but how many times in a high school had he heard Wonshik say those words? More than he cared to count.
"If you feel like that, then leave. Take your ex boyfriend with you." Managing to keep his voice emotionless, he fought back the pain and fear rising inside of him.
"Fine! Maybe I will!" It was obvious Hakyeon was angry by the rapid rise and fall of his chest as he turned to storm to the dresser, emptying a drawer out on the bed. Taekwoon watched silently until Hakyeon started coughing heavily, falling into the bed slightly.
"Hakyeon?" Rushing over, he forgot their argument as he pressed the back of his hand to his boyfriend's forehead. It was hot to the touch and Hakyeon had started sweating. Thinking back to the cafe, Taekwoon realized Hakyeon had been in nothing but a coat over his clothes to keep him warm, the same one that was currently soaked on the coat rack. Why hadn't he taken some extra time to drive him home when he knew how easily Hakyeon got sick?
"Leave me alone." Tears welled in Hakyeon's eyes. How could he have let himself hurt the man he lover that badly? Jealousy and pain had gotten the better of him.
"I can't..." Closing what little space remained between them, Taekwoon kissed him gently, holding his cheeks in both hands. "Calm down. You have a fever. You need to lay down. I'll make you tea."
"C-can Wonshik stay?" The question stung Taekwoon but he nodded anyway.
"If it's what you want." He helped Hakyeon into bed, leaving the room to make him tea, glaring at the blonde on his way to the kitchen. As much as having him in his home hurt, he'd gladly suffer to keep Hakyeon happy and healthy. Hoping he could go a week without any problems or hostilities between the three of them, he knew that, at least for Hakyeon's sake, they'd both try their hardest.
