It’s the second week of classes, and they’ve all gathered at the Three Broomsticks for Kyungsoo’s birthday. They’ve chosen a corner of the main floor, against the wall with deer antlers, and pushed two tables together. There are presents on one and a small cake on the other. Streamers and confetti litter the floor. Madam Rosmerta had made them promise to clean afterwards or else.

Everyone has a tankard of Butterbeer and the chatter is a constant, warm humm. Jongin sits quietly in his chair, the beer warming his hands. He’d come in with Luhan, but his friend had left some time ago with Minseok to do stars knew what. Chanyeol had been talking to him for a while after that, but he excused himself as soon as Sehun arrived with Tao, the cat-eyed Slytherin boy who excelled in their Defense Against the Dark Arts class.

Kyungsoo is seated in the middle of his friends—Junmyeon beside him with an already drunk Jongdae clinging to him, and Baekhyun making some kind of mime that has them all in titters. Every once in a while he’ll look up, find Jongin with his gaze, and smile.

They’d become closer in the past few days. The letters they’d exchanged had been but a glimpse into the real Kyungsoo. Even now that they hang out more because of their pets, Jongin wants to get closer.

Only…

He didn’t know how.

A month ago, they’d been enemies; they’d hated each other’s guts.

And now…

Now, Sehun’s eyes are fixed on a spot above Jongin’s head. Chanyeol and Tao are talking excitedly beside him, and haven’t noticed their friend’s odd behavior. Jongin twists in his seat to inspect the wall, but there’s nothing there. He looks at Sehun once more and realizes what’s happening.

Jongin jumps from his seat, butterbeer dropping from his hand to crash on the floor.

Sehun gasps as the vision ends and he falls off his chair.

But Jongin is there to catch him.
