It’s Christmas Day and the feast before him is something he always looks forward to. The spread is plentiful, with huge roast turkey and potatoes as the main course, vegetable and fruit salads as side dishes, and enough desserts to send them all into a sugar coma.

Luhan sits across from him, a bag of candies from his home open in front of him. Jongin had received one such bag from Lu’s parents, too. They always remembered to send him a little something during Christmas and his birthday. But he’d left his present upstairs knowing there would be cinnamon cake on the table.

He might or might not be on his fourth piece.

Who cares!

He’s going for a fifth piece when…

A letter falls in front of him. Like, a muggle letter in a white, rectangle envelope. It’s followed by a big owl that descends on the table, lightly covered in snow. It takes Jongin a moment to recognize Hellfire. She shakes her feathers, making a mess around her. “What are you doing here?”

She hoots, “Uh-Hoo.”

“You came to see Magnus?”

“Uuh-Hoo.”

“I left him in Luhan’s room this morning,” Jongin says. Luhan had invited him over to stay at the Gryffindor Tower during break since the Hufflepuff dorms were completely empty.

“Uhh-Hoo!” Hellfire jumps into the air and flies away.

Luhan’s mouth hangs open.

“What?” Jongin asks.

“Did you just talk to that owl?”

Jongin blinks. “I guess I did?”

“You’re weird,” Luhan says, and on a candy cane.

Jongin grabs the letter. “You knew that already.”

The letter has Kyungsoo’s name and address on the top left corner, and Jongin’s name in the middle. Why had he written the address if he was going to use Hellfire to send the letter? She already knew who Jongin was. Unless Kyungsoo expected a reply?<
