Drabble 9 // A Sense of Heaven

“But…I’m dying.”

“I know that. I don’t care.”

He shot the boy another bewildered look, though he didn’t seem too worried because the slightly too cute eye smile he wore from when he walked in was still on his face. It surprisingly shone and Taehyung gulped at how unexpectedly excited he secretly was.

“We can set up an operation for you, but the chances of you surviving are minute.”

“How minute?”

“1.2%.”

“Do you have to do the operation?”

Taehyung ran a soothing hand up and down Jimin’s arm as the boy hugged him tightly. “I know it’ll just be a waste of money, but I know it’s the only thing that will ease my parents’ pain. I feel like they’d be able to deal with it better if I died during surgery than if I didn’t try at all.”

Jimin sobbed into his shoulder. Taehyung felt his once racing heart pound painfully as his heart ached at Jimin’s crying.

“Come on hyung, let’s take a picture.”

“Remember there’s always someone somewhere for you. They may be out looking for you, they may be already by your side; maybe you’ve find them first. Hold their hand, wish them a good night sleep and kiss their nightmares away. Don’t ever let them go. Keep them close and tell them how much you love them. Let them know you mean it, let them understand how you feel and hug them tight. Leave them with only memories and no regrets. It may be your last, but it will never be forgotten.”

Taehyung uploaded the selfie he and Jimin last took with the long message. Then he shut his phone and placed it down slowly beside him. A nurse picked it up to put aside.

“Please…give that to Jimin for me. It’s for him to keep.” He asked kindly, gently, even romantically. Even when he was alone in the operation room surrounded by people he didn’t know, all he thought about was Jimin – the boy that intruded into the brink of the ends of his life and made everything worth it. The nurse nodded and he was at ease.

The image of Jimin’s first entrance into his patient room two months ago with a massive bouquet of flowers (that looked slightly too big for him to carry), cutely styled light, fluffy brown hair and that angelic eye smile replayed in Taehyung’s mind as he shut his eyes. The bright light that switched on above his face made him feel a sense of heaven, and Jimin’s eye smile truly seemed that of something that existed in another land. He flew, and Taehyung followed him happily with a smile.

Author's Note // I thought of writing this after seeing some news on a Chinese newspaper not long ago about an eighteen year old girl who posted her story about her disease (I think it was cancer) on SNS and was named something like the cutest 18 year old patient, I don’t really remember. But yeah, her sickness is incurable at the moment I think. Miracles do happen though. Anyway, this sorta just came out from that :)
