Yifan hasn’t said he loved you today.

To anyone else, it would slip by, unnoticed.

But to you, it was a big deal.

Lately, you’d felt Yifan growing more and more distant—spending more time out of the apartment the two of you shared, only to stumble back in late at night, smelling of alcohol and another woman’s perfume.

Yet you still managed to plaster a smile in your face every morning, easing him out of his hangovers, hoping that one day he’d realize that you needed him beside you instead of with someone else.

And every morning, he’d tell you he loved you forever.

Sometimes in English, other times Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, or some other tidbit of a language he picked up among his travels.

And you miss it, but merely purse your lips once he crashes through the door, blonde hair tousled and matted with sweat.
