Voices raise, things fly, doors slam.

But hearts don’t break.

You slump down on the floor, completely and utterly spent.

The remnants of the previous battle are scattered around you, glittering shards of glass mixed with downy feathers and glossy magazines.

And yet you can’t bring yourself to care.

You loved him once, that’s true.

But that time’s long since faded, and now the sight of him brings you more pain that relief.

You’re not sure when exactly this started to happen, but you can remember all the times you made excuses, when you decided to blow him off, when you decided that you’d be fine alone.

And after a while, the initial guilt faded away, replaced with an empty sense of satisfaction.

Every time you heard the disappointment in his voice, the sadness in his eyes, you couldn’t help but feel proud that you were able to hold this power over him.
